Historic Center of Lagos (Lagos) - A Glimpse into the Past

Lagos, known as Lagos, was once the capital of the Algarve region and is steeped in a rich history. Its prosperity dates back to the prehistoric era, when it thrived due to Mediterranean trade. During the Age of Discovery, Lagos played a significant role as the first port to engage in the trade of African slaves. Today, it has evolved into an international resort destination, reclaiming its position as the heart of southern Algarve. this church has withstood the test of time, enduring wars, natural disasters, and structural challenges. It was designated a National Monument in 1929 and underwent a restoration process in the early 1930s. The church now gleams with its golden adornments, featuring the statue of Saint Anthony with the Child prominently displayed. The church's interior, crafted by primarily carpenters, features wood carvings that can seem somewhat robust and uneven in proportion, a testament to the craftsmanship of the time.
