|The ultimate hotel experience. Hyatt Regency Lanzhou The final stop of my Globalist challenge was Hyatt Regency Lanzhou. I had a great experience and had to give it five stars. I used a Guest of Honor voucher to upgrade to a standard suite for six nights. The suite was 80 square meters and had a view of the Yellow River. The view was spectacular both day and night. Hotel location: The Waterwheel Expo Park and Yellow River Scenic Area are right downstairs. You can visit famous attractions in Lanzhou, such as Zhongshan Bridge, Baita Temple, and the Yellow River Mother Sculpture, by heading west along the scenic area. You can also visit the Dunhuang Art Museum and Reader Museum by heading east. Room: I was upgraded to a standard suite with three large floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a panoramic view of the Yellow River. Dining: The breakfast was great, with many local specialties. I had a bowl of beef noodles every day, as well as lamb paomo, milk and egg rice wine, baked buns, and more. Swimming and fitness: The pool is 29 meters long and has a 1.7-meter deep end. The water quality is good and there aren't many people. I swam 1,000 meters every day during my stay in Lanzhou. There is a public bath, but the water temperature is not high. You have to take the elevator from the changing room to the pool, so it can be a bit cold when you go back after swimming. The sauna is great. The gym is said to be the largest in Lanzhou. The equipment is quite new and there are barbells. Surprise: One day during my stay, the hotel upgraded happy hour to a seafood buffet because the Regency Club was occupied. The buffet is normally CNY 288 per person and includes unlimited food and drinks. In conclusion, winter is the off-season for tourism in Lanzhou, so hotel prices are very low. I stayed for several nights and the average price was only about CNY 300 per night. With various member day promotions, targeted double points, breakfast, and happy hour, the value for money and experience were both excellent. I give Hyatt Regency Lanzhou five stars.
