Chuxi has a total of 36 tulous, consisting of five round tulous and 31 square tulous, all with names containing the character 'Qing,' symbolizing good fortune and prosperity from the ancestral 'Heqing Lou,' which has been destroyed. Among them, Jiqing Lou is one of the oldest round Hakka tulous. Jiqing Lou was built in 1419 and has a history of over 580 years. It is the oldest, has the most stairs, and has the most unique structure among the existing round tulous in Yongding. Jiqing Lou consists of two rings—the outer ring has staircases installed for each household from the first to the fourth floor, with each floor's passage separated by wooden boards. The 72 staircases divide the entire building into 72 independent units. The rooms, staircases, and partition walls are all constructed with cedar wood, without using a single iron nail. This structure has withstood nearly six centuries of weathering and only recently started to show signs of tilting. However, the 2-meter-thick rammed earth walls, which serve as the load-bearing system, still stand firm. The top floor of the outer ring has nine watchtowers and multiple staircases.
