Los Angeles County Museum of Art: Urban Light Attraction

The most famous spot at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) is the Urban Light installation at the entrance. This artwork, created by artist Chris Burden, consists of functional street lamps and embodies the essence of Los Angeles street culture. With twenty to thirty street lamps of varying heights, ranging from six to nine meters, it also served as a filming location for the movie 'No Strings Attached.' Urban Light symbolizes the changing cityscape of Los Angeles and is one of the most iconic attractions in the downtown area. The Urban Light installation in front of LACMA's entrance plaza features a total of 202 street lamps. These lamps were collected from various locations in Southern California during the 1920s and 1930s by an avid collector. To highlight the uniqueness of each lamp, designer Chris Burden painted all 202 lamps in the same iron-gray color. Now powered by solar energy, Urban Light illuminates the entire plaza at night. Lastly, it must be mentioned again that LACMA's famous Urban Light is truly amazing; walking through it feels like being in a dreamlike movie scene.
