Luxor is a city located on the east bank of the Nile River. This is the ancient capital of Egypt called Thebes. This city is known as the "largest open-air museum in the world" because it preserves thousands of ancient architectural works bearing the mark of the glorious Egyptian civilization. Luxor is also a place to worship Amun, the sun god as well as the center of important historical events in Egypt. This is also the resting place of many famous pharaohs. If you have the opportunity to travel to Egypt, do not forget to spend time exploring this historic city. Some notes to keep in mind before visiting - Luxor has a hot and dry climate, you should bring hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, drinking water and light clothes to protect your body from the harsh sun. You should also avoid going out during the hottest hours of the day, around 11am to 3pm. - This is a city with Islamic culture. Therefore, you need to respect the customs and practices of the local people. Wear modest clothes, not too short or revealing when visiting religious or public places. You should also avoid kissing, hugging or holding hands in public because these are unacceptable behaviors in Egypt. - The official currency here is the Egyptian Pound (EGP) divided into 100 piastres. You can exchange currency at banks, airports, hotels or money exchange shops. You can also withdraw cash at ATMs but remember to check the transaction fee before withdrawing.
