Mardin - A Fascinating, Largely Unvisited Town

Mardin is a predominantly Kurdish town in the Eastern end of Turkey, very close to the Syrian and Iraqi borders. Due to the ongoing conflict(s) in that region, it often gets ignored by foreign visitors, but those who do come will find a fascinating hilltop town with an almost unique geography, culture, great food and friendly people. It's probably best to just fly here (can be reached in around an hour from Istanbul, Ankara etc), but can be done as part of a longer trip in the region, or even via an overnight bus. Makes a nice change from the heavily touristed beach cities in the south. #mardin #turkey #kurdish
