The Underground ‘Lake’ of Palombaro Lungo

The Palombaro Lungo is something quite unique. It’s the largest underground water system in the city of Matura, where rainwater and spring water from the surrounding hills are collected and in the past was necessary for the supply of water to the inhabitants. After being used for about a century and a half it stopped being used in 1927. It was kind of forgotten quite quickly and then rediscovered in 1991.
