Meizhou Travel - Gaoguanyin Temple

Gaoguanyin Temple is located at the top of Pankeng Scenic Area in Xiuyang Town, Meijiang District, Meizhou City. History Gaoguanyin Temple is located at an altitude of 780 meters on the edge of the Meijiang Basin. According to legend, a believer placed a statue of Guanyin in the rock to worship. After worshiping, they saw a Buddha light on the top of the peak, which was called "opening the heavenly eye". Since then, the temple has been very popular. In January 1865, the remnants of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom army fought fiercely with the Qing army at Gaoguanyin Temple for three days and nights. After the war, the local elders invited monks to set up altars to worship at Gaoguanyin Temple, making it famous far and wide. Architecture Gaoguanyin Temple is built in the style of a palace. Originally, there was only a small tile house and a statue of Guanyin. Later, with the efforts of the abbot and the generous support of overseas Chinese in Indonesia, the temple was rebuilt, and water and electricity facilities were improved. A new Buddha hall, guest hall, monk's room, and vegetarian hall were built. Highlights • Four-faced Guanyin Statue: There is a huge four-faced Guanyin statue on the top of the mountain, which protects the souls of soldiers and blesses the city. • Overlooking Meizhou City: It is an excellent place to overlook Meizhou City and enjoy the scenery of the city. • Natural Scenery: The surrounding peaks are lush, the mountains are high and the forests are dense, the air is fresh, and the scenery is pleasant. There is often mist, making it look like a fairyland.
