Phuket's Annual Festival

Another significant annual event in Phuket is held during the seventh month of the Chinese calendar, known as the Por Tor Festival. This festival is dedicated to honoring ancestors. Throughout Phuket, various communities organize celebrations, but the main venue is the Por Tor Kong Shrine in Phuket Town, next to Baan Bang Niew Municipal School. There is a walking street near the shrine and numerous stalls selling turtles, which symbolize longevity. These turtles come in various prices and are offered to the deity of the festival, Por Tor Kong, an incarnation of the Bodhisattva Guan Yin, for good fortune. Visitors during this period are encouraged to visit and pay respects for their own prosperity.
