The ancient city of Porunaruwa

#celebrateit Located on the west side of the northern central state, Poronnarwa, the ancient capital of Sri Lanka, which once flourished as a Buddhist city. The Poronnarwa ruins, which were registered as a World Heritage Site in 1982, have many huge ruins that exceed 10 metres in size and are worth seeing. The remains of the palace of Paraklama Barf I, which is overwhelmed by the height of the densely stacked brick walls, the huge pagoda Lankotu Vihara, which is 33 metres high and 170 metres in diameter, and among them, the Gal Vihara is called a masterpiece of Buddhist art. There are three Buddha statues carved on a giant rock. A sitting statue of Shakyamuni meditating with a calm expression, a standing statue of Shakyamuni who has been enlightened, and a huge statue of Shakyamuni nirvana, which is about 15 metres long, are lined up.
