1-day Rye trip. Go early, shops close by 4pm (or maybe it was some holiday that day and I was not so lucky) Must-do: if not afraid of heights and not claustrophobic, climb up the narrow staircase of St Mary’s Church, excellent view and exhilarating climb! Wear comfortable and sensible walking shoes, Mermaid Street is a cobbled road so could be slippery and/or trap heels.
