So, what happens at a crab festival? Well, it varies slightly depending on the location and year, but at the crab festivals I've been to so far, crab soup with one female koppegani is handed out for free (sometimes it's sold for 100 or 200 yen, but it's still a good deal!), bags of kamaboko are scattered (you go to get the scattered kamaboko), you can fish for koppegani (you can take the crab you catch home), there is a big lottery where you can win snow crab, snow crab is sold at a great price, local products are sold at a local product fair, etc. Basically, it's often cheaper than buying it normally.
