Echoes of Deoksugung: A Journey Through a Century

Deoksugung, a palace nestled in the bustling city center, carries the final chapter of Korean history. Unlike other palaces, Deoksugung's architecture blends traditional Joseon styles with Western elements, showcasing the cultural clash at the end of the Joseon Dynasty. As I walked into the palace, I was captivated by the grand stone gate, feeling the dignity of the royal family from the past. The bell tower in the garden especially stood out, and through its chimes, I seemed to hear the echoes of history. The exhibits inside the palace vividly recreate the daily lives of King Gojong and the queen, filling visitors with respect for this once glorious era. Although Deoksugung is now a symbol of peace, it still retains the royal dignity and past splendor, evoking a sense of nostalgia for the lost history.
