Suzhou's 82nd Garden

Suzhou's 82nd Garden: The Residence of the Second Place Scholar Feng Guifen (1809–1874) was a child prodigy who was discovered by Lin Zexu, the then governor of Jiangsu, and invited to study at the governor's office. In the 20th year of the Daoguang era, Feng was awarded the second place in the imperial examination and began his official career. After retiring, he lived here. The residence faces north and has a front courtyard with a gatehouse, a main hall, and a building hall. The garden is centered around a pond, with halls, pavilions, corridors, gazebos, bridges, and yellow stone rockeries scattered around it. Feng wrote a couplet for himself: "The stream flows deep and nourishes my crops, and I come to see the mulberry trees on the marsh."
