Ethnographic Museum (Tarnow)

The Ethnographic Museum, a branch of the District Museum in Tarnów, is housed in a classicist, historic manor house. An unquestionable attraction of the place is the only permanent exhibition about Roma in Poland. It is located in the city center in a historic eighteenth-century manor house at 10 Krakowska Street. The manor house used to be an inn and then a residential house. It belonged to the Onitsch family, who in the 1920s sold the building to the city for a theater, which was built elsewhere. The museum presents the traditional folk culture of the Tarnów region. It also has a section dedicated to Roma history and culture. In the courtyard, an outdoor exhibition is organized seasonally, consisting of picturesque wagons from the famous Gypsy wagons. The Roma collection was established in Tarnów in 1979, when the first Roma-themed exhibition in Poland was organized here. In addition, during temporary exhibitions, the museum invites you to learn about the cultures of other nations. The museum is the organizer of popular competitions, including the Painted Cottage in Zalipie competition and the "Easter Egg Competition and Ritual Art Competition", and also conducts educational activities in the form of museum lessons and art workshops, during which it promotes regional traditions. #poland #polandtravel #museum
