District Museum in Tarnów

The brick building was built at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries in the Gothic style. Later it was rebuilt in the Renaissance style. The town hall, which today is a branch of the District Museum in Tarnów, was intended for the Old Art Gallery. Several exhibitions can be seen in its historic halls. "In a robe and with a saber" - a permanent exhibition devoted to Polish noble culture. among others, a collection of Polish and oriental militaria with an impressive five-meter-long hussar copy. In the hunting armory, you can see firearms used for hunting and sport, as well as weapons for self-defense and duels. Most of the exhibits come from the collection of the Rzewuskis from their castle in Podhorce (now in Ukraine). The beautiful interiors of the town hall floor, in turn, house a gallery of Polish noble portraits, called Sarmatian portraits, from the 17th and 18th centuries, as well as Renaissance and Baroque furniture. People who are interested in porcelain and glass will appreciate the collection in the Council Hall, where products from the most famous manufactories of Western Europe and Poland are collected.
