Shitou Village, located on Biandan Mountain in Zhenning County, southwest Guizhou, is one of 48 Buyi mountain villages, situated in a humid subtropical monsoon climate. In Shitou Village, stone houses are built into the mountainside, rising tier upon tier in an orderly arrangement. The houses are all made of wood and stone, without using a single brick or tile. The women of Shitou Village are skilled in batik weaving, with 80% of the adult women in the village proficient in this traditional folk craft. The owners of the stone houses are mostly Buyi people. The entire village is built without bricks or tiles. The walls of the houses are made of stone blocks, the roofs are made of stone slabs, and even the interior partitions are made of stone. The courtyard walls, village pathways, small bridges in front of the village, and the retaining walls of the terraced fields are all built with stone. Household utensils, such as pestles, mortars, bowls, troughs, and jars, are all made of stone. Visiting here is like stepping into a "stone kingdom."
