If you’re looking for a peaceful place to stay away from the hustle and bustle, this location might just suit you — provided you’re comfortable with being quite far from anything of note. That said, it’s not entirely cut off; there’s a bus stop directly outside with services running roughly every 15 and 30 minutes, which does make getting around manageable. The setting is quiet and relaxing, with a pleasant bar on-site and a decent selection of tapas, which added a nice touch to the evenings. However, there were a few drawbacks during our stay. The television in the room didn’t work at all — unsure if it was just the batteries in the remote or a more serious issue, but we couldn’t get any power to it, which was a shame. Breakfast was tidy and kept us going, but it did become repetitive after a couple of days. The pastries in particular were a bit disappointing — rather dry and not the freshest. Overall, it’s a good spot if you value tranquillity and can cope with a bit of isolation. With reliable transport links it offers a relaxing base, albeit with room for improvement in a few areas. There is a confidence shop and a bar that does food about 10 mins walk away and playground for children mostly in neighbourhood of homes though.

Beautiful hotel, amazing facilities to work from, one of the best gyms that I’ve been to, it would have been so much more seamless if parking, gym etc were included in the price. Especially if the pool provided by the gym is not available, not having to pay for the gym one would make more sense

Beautiful rooms with nice bathroom, great shower. Soundproofing could be better. Having a bath a hear the tv from the next room, should not be possible in a hotel like this, also the slamming doors, was not great. Staff in the hotel are super, from housekeeping till reception. The restaurant is fantastic, fantastic wines. And probably one of the best burgers I ever had. If you stay at this hotel, you have to visit this restaurant. I simply loved it. Free parking near the hotel, even with vans or minibuses. Despite the fact that soundproofing could be better, next time in San Sebastián, this will be my first choice.

We came here without a car having got busses from Bilbao. Not easy finding a hotel with a pool and within LaGuardia so worked perfectly. Arguably not a four star but was comfortable and and pool was lovely. Would recommend for the price

I stayed at Axel San Sebastián for a solo trip and was absolutely delighted by the warm hospitality and friendly vibes. My trip started with a bit of a crisis; I left my luggage on an intercity bus and had a restaurant reservation overlapping with the pick-up time. I was quite overwhelmed, but staff member Tanja was a true lifesaver. She went above and beyond to help me arrange the luggage pick-up and even communicated with the restaurant to reschedule my reservation. Thanks to her incredible support, the rest of my stay in Donostia was seamless and wonderful. The hotel itself is neat, modern, and has a very inviting atmosphere with a fabulous, stylish touch. I also thoroughly enjoyed the jacuzzi. Between the best service I've ever received and the great energy from fellow guests, I’m leaving Donostia with the best memories. Hotel is in a great location, close to shopping district and close to bars and eateries.  Rooms are spacious and clean. The bathroom had a shower and a bath which is unusual but well received. About 20 mins in a taxi from Bilbao airport.  Service was good at check in/out.  Roof top bar is a nice offer with a variety of drinks.  I would stay here again.

Facilities: Excellent! The location is superb! The environment is great! It's just a bit inconvenient for getting around; best suited for those driving. There is free parking. Cleanliness: Very good! High-end! Environment: Absolutely stunning, overlooking Shell Bay! Service: So-so! Breakfast is excellent!!!

We had such a great time this year for Semana Grande. And the Axel Hotel was in the perfect location for us. Right on the river next to a great spot for drinks and food. The rooftop pool is also a great spot to watch the fireworks! The staff was so helpful and friendly. And although we didn't need housekeeping while we were staying there they offered every day to clean our room or swap out towels or necessities for us. What a great experience. We will definitely be back!

Appreciated the free parking and beautiful views of the city below. The hotel is also conveniently located near the bus stop. Our hotel room was pretty clean but I would describe the room amenities as basic. The pillows were too soft - presumably due to the lack of pillow filling. The motion sensor lights in the toilet also turned off every 5 mins which was a bit annoying sometimes. For the price paid, I still think our stay was worth it.
