Hotel Dengan Spa di Basel-City, Switzerland

Hotel is conveniently located less than five minutes’ walk (with luggage) from Basel SBB. We were greeted by a genuinely friendly receptionist, who informed us that we had been upgraded. Well, we arrived at the “room,” which turned out to be a suite with dining/conference area, two bathrooms, a soaking tub, and a panaromic view of the Basel skyline. The dining/living area and bedroom were separate, each with individually controlled A/C. The weather was actually very cool and pleasant for late June, so the A/C was sufficient. That said, if it had been hotter, I’m not sure if the A/C in the bedroom would have quite enough for me, but I’m an extremely picky customer when it comes to air conditioning. In general, Switzerland is a tough place if you need your room at 19 Celcius/69 Farenheit. The living room, though, was able to get very cold. The in-house dining and beverage options were fantastic. There’s a more formal restaurant on the mezzanine above the lobby, where I enjoyed a great meal that worked around my dietary restrictions. Downstairs, there’s a patio restaurant/cafe, and a stylish indoor bar with a midcentury Milanese aesthetic. Honestly, I was surprised it wasn’t busier, but that might have been because we were staying midweek, right after Art Basel. Overall, I very highly recommend. Probably best suited to business travel, but it didn’t feel impersonal, or lacking in personality or style. On the contrary, it was comfortable and contemporary, with a few modernist touches that elevated the look and feel of the property.

Good location if you are traveling on public transport. We came from Colmar by train and the hotel is only a short taxi ride from the station. It is not an area for cafes, restaurants etc. as there is nothing around. There is a tram just up from the hotel and you can take this into the heart if the city. We didn’t as it was only an overnight stay and we were too tired. We contented ourselves with a snack from a machine in the lobby. The room was small but for one or two nights not a problem. Bed was comfortable, water hot and WiFi good. We left too early for breakfast so can’t comment on the food. The young lady on reception was very helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend for short stays. Great value for the price we paid, AU$97.

Ich bin nicht in ein Hotel, weil ich Geld sparen wollte und die Schweiz im Vergleich zu Deutschland viel teurer ist. Vorteil bei der Jugendherberge: in der Buchung enthalten ist eine Basel Card, mit der sich kostenfrei der gesamte ÖPNV nutzen lässt. Außerdem bezahlt man bei Museen etc. nur 50% des Eintrittes. Weiterer Vorteil: die Lage der Jugendherbe sehr zentral, aber dennoch ruhig (nur, was das Stadtgeschehen betrifft), in der Altstadt ganz in der Nähe des Rheins. Man kann zu Fuß ins Zentrum gehen. Ich habe diesen Familien nichts gesagt, weil ich aus Erfahrung weiß, dass das nichts bringt und weil ich nur eine Nacht geblieben bin. Aber ich habe es bei den Mitarbeitern zur Sprache gebracht, es hat sich aber nichts getan (das ist wohl auch für sie zwecklos). Ich selbst habe Basel besucht, um ganz viel Kunst anzusehen, und bin ein Typ, der ein Gästezimmer auch tagsüber als Rückzugsort braucht, um dann wieder loszuziehen. Die Eindrücke in dieser interessanten Stadt sind überwältigend. Dafür ist diese Jugendherberge nicht geeignet. Schlafen konnte ich nur mit Ohrstöpseln, und auch das nur unruhig. Leider kann man das Zimmer erst ab 15:00 Uhr beziehen - ich hätte mir nach der langen Anreise an einem heißen Tag gewünscht, mich schon etwas vorher ein wenig ausruhen und frisch machen zu können (aber wahrscheinlich wäre es ohnehin zu laut zum Ausruhen gewesen). Only negative point was the hotel is located right next to a tram station and the Basel fair close to Basel Badischer Bahnhof. It s a high rise building with hotelrooms up to floor 14. There is an independant bar on the 30st floor in the same building with spectacular views. Hotel guests get a free Basel card with allows to use public transport for free and lots of half price things to do like museums, zoo etc.

Bed was very uncomfortable. It's a folding Murphy's bed. Never seen this in a hotel. It was not so clearly visible while making the booking that hotel parking will cost extra CHF25 per night. All together there was no great financial benefit in selecting this hotel. I will not like to use this again.

Superb location near the train station and walkable to old town area. Excellent bedroom and bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Would stay there again. Staff very friendly and helpful.

My husband and I spent 10 nights here. Fabulous location, close to train station. 20 minute walk to city centre. Tram service superb. MIGROS in train station a great place to get an inexpensive meal. What is best of all about this hotel is the staff. Layla at front desk is fantastic. For one so young, her knowledge and her ability to interact with everyone is excellent. She is terrific. Cedric is also amazing. Hennadii is also very good. In the restaurant next door (Euler) where we had breakfast (there are 3 hotels under one ownership) , we had superb service by Tassimina and Cristina. We so enjoyed them and it was always a great start to the day. Good breakfast. Metropol rooms are not air conditioned, only on Floor 7 and 8. Suggest booking there if weather is warm. Most of Switzerland is not air-conditioned. Beds are comfortable, pillows are VERY good. Windows open wide to ventilate. We felt price of room was very high.

Forget getting a Taxi or Transfer just hop on the 50 Bus at the Airport for a free 5 Minute journey to a stop within spitting distance of the Hotel. The same Bus carries on into Basel Centre. The Hotel has it's own service but that had finished by the time I landed. Your Hotel Reservation is your ticket for free public transport until it is supplanted by the Basel Card issued by the Hotel on Check In. This card valid for the duration of your stay also provides substantial discounts on various attractions Room was modern, a good size and excellent shower. The Breakfast (Light from 4.30am) Buffet from 0600-1000 had a wonderful selection of hot and cold items catering for a diversity of tastes. One of the drawbacks- although the room had a kettle there were no tea or coffee supplies or fridge. Overall a wonderful mid-range establishment with easy access to the Airport and City Centre.
