Tongpan Island is a small island in the East China Sea outside the estuary of Feiyun River, belonging to Beilong Township, Ruian City. According to the old records, Tongpan Island got its name because of its shape like a copper plate. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, troops were stationed in camp, also known as Yingpan Island. In the early Qing Dynasty, due to the implementation of the sea ban policy, there were no permanent residents. The Tongpan Island Scenic Area is mainly composed of seven islands including Tongpan Island, Changchang Mountain, Lizhi Mountain, Sanjianniang, Jinyu and Xiaotiao, and the surrounding waters. It has a total area of 6.2 square kilometers, of which the land area is 2.31 square kilometers, the sea area is 3.9 square kilometers, and the coastline is 21 kilometers long. The closest point to the mainland is 14.69 kilometers and 15.07 nautical miles from the urban area of Ruian.
