Antarctic Luo, also known as Nan Jie Luo, Nan Ji Luo, is located in Badi Township, Weixi County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province. |For the first time in my life, high-altitude trekking brought me to tears. On my second wandering journey, I arrived at Antarctic Luo. After being enticed by pictures online, I rushed there without hesitation! But after experiencing it firsthand, I realized that this path was not as simple as it seemed. This is a high-altitude trek, with the starting point being over 4k meters above sea level. For someone like me, who was trekking at high altitude for the first time, it was truly a challenge. I stayed in Cizhong the night before and had a good sleep. However, as soon as I started trekking, especially during the ascent, I clearly felt out of breath. When I reached Lake No. 5, I was still doing okay and managed to persevere. Lake No. 5 is truly the most beautiful, and most of the photos I took were there! There is an ascent of about 400 meters from Lake No. 5 to Lake No. 6. Perhaps due to mild altitude sickness, I had to stop and catch my breath after every ten steps. Eventually, I couldn't go on and had to have the guide carry my things. I gritted my teeth and struggled over the climb. The rest of the way was mostly downhill, which is easier at high altitudes, but going uphill is still deadly, especially for someone like me who went up all at once. During the trek, I found that hot water, cola, and bread were the most helpful. Whenever I felt like I couldn't go on, a bit of hot water and some bread allowed me to continue. Cola seems to be a great thing; it has caffeine and can give you a boost. Chocolate, however, doesn't work as well; it's better to bring dry food, otherwise, you might feel dizzy. A fitness buddy who was with me couldn't make it on the way down and started using oxygen. I suggest that friends who usually work out should prepare an oxygen bottle and take it slow. Regarding photography, the waterfall behind Lake No. 5 is the most beautiful (cover photo). At first, many people were taking photos by the lakeside in front. At this time, hurry to the waterfall. There is a large field of flowers behind the waterfall, which makes a beautiful foreground for photos. Choose bright-colored clothing, with orange-red being the best! My green curry outfit was also okay. About the weather, trekking is relatively easy on sunny days, but be sure to protect yourself from sunburn and heatstroke. Foggy weather on rainy days feels quite atmospheric. But it's really cold, and even wearing a raincoat doesn't help. Then there's a section of the big loop that goes through a rainforest, which is particularly difficult to navigate, full of mud and streams. Be sure to have full waterproof gear, otherwise, you can easily catch a cold. I had a splitting headache when I was descending the mountain, and it was all thanks to the guide's homemade chicken soup that saved me! The climbing mouse Asa boots I wore were not waterproof at all, so avoid them. I recommend that beginners go on a sunny day, as the difficulty level between sunny and rainy days is not the same.
