Fab hotel. The staff are all happy and seem to enjoy their job. The room was clean and overlooked the pool area. Towels changed daily if left in the bath, along. Pool towels aren’t replenished very quickly so get in early to grab a towel, or keep you eye out for the chap wheeling fresh ones in, as they go quickly. Few things to improve on- ensure all toilets have soap and toilet roll, as the pool side toilet didn’t have soap for over 3 days whilst we stayed. The toilet on the ground floor also lacked soap, and only one hand dryer worked. The entertainment staff often forget to translate into English, however some staff are better at it than others. I also think interrupting tea 2-3 times with different staff inviting us the mini disco is excessive. Big shout out to Nuria for always being cheerful, encouraging the kids to get involved and making sure they understood what was happening! She has a real flare for entertainment and genuinely wants everyone to get involved and have fun!
Hotel Melina

This is a Warning about the times chosen to eat half board at Hotel Melina. We've just returned from a weeks stay based on half board. We chose to have Breakfast and Dinner instead of Breakfast and Lunch. Breakfast wasn't bad , very average for Spain but it was the food quality and selection on the Evening Dinner that let us down. The first meal on the Sunday seemed to be pretty good but then it went down hill. You could tell that some of the food was recycled dishes from Lunch, the soup was limited and not an attractive option. We were usually one of the first into the Dining room ( due to late and starving) which didn't open UNTIL 8pm. Not Good. It was only on the Thursday that we decided to have a sneak into the LUNCHTIME session to see what was served up on that sitting as against our Dinner Menu. We found a BIG difference in the Selection and quality on offer at Lunch. Things like Paella (my favourite) Corn on the Cob, Better items on offer including a big better choice of Soups and Quantity all which we never had on our Dinner Menu. We felt we had been mugged by the food on offer on our Evening Dinner dining menu. So our Warning is DON'T CHOOSE THE 8PM DINING you get a much better choice and selection on the LUNCHTIME menu. Plus 8pm is a bit too late to have to wait for your Evening dinner but its a very Spanishy traditional Hotel which probably accounts for the late situ. As far as the hotel itself is concerned, it was brilliant. Spotlessly clean, great staff, lovely room, quiet position, comfy beds, convenient location.
Sol Pelicanos Ocas

We stayed as two couples. We booked a standard Sol Pelicanos room which overlooked the Ocas building and Silver Dollar pub on the corner. Room was clean, spacious, comfortable beds, walk in shower. Rooms cleaned every day and clean towels every day. Our friends had a Sol Pelicanous pool view room. Again large spacious room with comfortable beds. On checking in which is very very slow we did not notice that we had been allocated the wrong rooms, reception was not very helpful so,we just switched rooms. You have a good size fridge in the room, for your own water, beer or wine supplies. I did read you could hire a kettle for a week. Safe was €3 a day plus €10 deposit which you had back on check out Lifts - be patient they can be slow but there are 7 in total. Dining room - we only booked B&B. Plenty of choice and food was hotter the earlier you ate, current times for breakfast are 8-10.30am Pool area - plenty of loungers around after lunch and snack bars was reasonably priced but we did not eat here. In and out bar - we used before going out for the evening a bottle of beer and glass of wine around €6 We did not experience any loud noises late at night as tucked around the corner but our friends did here a few arguments. Location, about 35-40 minutes from Old Town, we walked mainly through the middle street to avoid overflowing bars and mobility scooters along the front. Overall we had a good stay and hotel is in a good location just be careful very late a night as some homeless people loiter on the street and potential pick pockets but we did not encounter any problems.

Looked to stay in the Old Town and the location couldn’t be better on “Gin and Tonic” street with Tapas Alley next door. It’s an excellent 3 star hotel, everything is immaculately clean, room was spacious (we had a leak from upstairs in the bathroom on arrival, which was taken care of immediately or we had the choice of another room, so cannot fault the staff) Lovely roof terrace to sunbathe and the barman in the downstairs bar was friendly and attentive. It was lovely to sit outside and watch the world go by in the evening. We went half board and are not fussy eaters, however, the food was mostly cold at both breakfast and dinner which would put us off booking half board again. They just need to invest in some hot plates and that would be remedied though. Lovely to have a bottle of wine included in the evening meal and again, everything is very clean. Would we return? Yes. As it’s such a great location, Staff are attentive and the place is sparkling. For a 3 star hotel you get what you pay for, rooms are basic and functional but the staff go above and beyond to ensure you have a nice holiday. For a cheap getaway it’s an ideal base to explore the Old Town but also close to Levante and the new town, so the best of both worlds.

Just returned from a weeks stay with friends, 2 couples. Location fantastic, everything on your doorstep and only a short walk away, bars beach etc. Hotel was spotlessly clean and room cleaned every day and towels etc changed. Room was fairly small but well equipped. Had a room on the ‘noisy side’ right by the bars but we were on 8th floor and it didn’t disturb us at all when the balcony door was closed. Air con was very hit and miss, could never get it to come on in the morning but would sometimes freeze late at night as couldn’t turn it off. Shower and toiletries were fantastic. Only went half board so ate breakfast and dinner at the hotel and the food was lovely, couldn’t fault it. Only real issue was the cost of the small bottles of water you had to purchase from the restaurant as weren’t allowed to bring them in. The worst thing about the hotel was the pool area. Pool is shallow, not really a problem, however impossible to get a sunbed. Despite the sign stating sunbeds couldn’t be reserved, you had no chance of getting one after breakfast. Towels would be out first thing often then people going out for the morning and not actually using them until the afternoon. As there aren’t anywhere near enough loungers for the amount of residents this really needs to be addressed. Daytime entertainment, guy was great fun. Night time entertainment didn’t seem great but we went out locally so not a problem for us. The only reason this hotel doesn’t get a higher score and I would book elsewhere next time is down to the situation at the pool. But fab weeks, 5/5 for all the staff.

I checked in today for a room prebooked for several months , with the specific request for a room with a balcony, I stated quite clearly on the corresponding emails when booking , my room MUST (in big letters ) have a balcony, even at extra cost and was assured this would be the case . On checking in I was given room 103 on the first floor, which was little short of a dingy prison cell , there wasn’t even a Window with natural light. I returned to reception and showed her the confirmation email and the lady said they were full and there were no rooms with a Balcony left , despite my previous emails to this hotel. To cut a long story short, it wasn’t her fault and in fairness she did the best she could and refunded me in full. So, I checked in to another hotel complete with a nice balcony. Be warned, although this hotel appears to be a nice rustic Spanish hotel ( which drew me to book it in the first place ) you may end up in a cell rather than a nice room or without a balcony. Very disappointing.
