Amazing hotel with best location, wonderful service and long history. City center but surrounded by nature, 2 deers walked by restaurant window during breakfast. Will definitely come back!

I believe it is important to acknowledge and celebrate excellence, and I sincerely hope that the outstanding efforts of the hotel team members are recognized for their service excellence: - Wang Yu Wen (Azekura) - Nobukazu Yoshida (Azekura) - Miyamae (Azekura) - Okubo Ren (Azekura) - Murata (Lounge) - Pabina (Lounge) - Kim (Front Desk) - Pitcha (Front Desk) - Arjun (Front Desk) - Dushanta (Front Desk) Some highlights of this stay: - Sparkling Wine provided for Bonvoy members during breakfast, ingredients also sourced from Nara - FHR dining credit has 125usd instead of the 100usd - Azekura the JP restaurant: one of the best teppanyaki and kaiseki I had in JP - no sento but there's a jacuzzi in the pool. The fitness gym was quite comprehensive The regular Room was already very big, comfy bed and clean! No upgrade this time since all rooms are fully booked - service! 100% good! One of the most friendly staff and quite a number overseas staff. - The hotel provide a shuttle bus to Nara station or Kintetsu Below content for those who has time to read To start, it was the first day of the dining experience at Azekura that got me to have not one but two dining occasions at the restaurant. Chef Wang Yu Wen not only delivered a gastronomic experience throughout my teppanyaki lunch course, but he also delivered a very personal one-one dining service experience. His culinary expertise was showcased in every dish despite my dietary restriction, every flavour simply delighted my palate. Kirito did an exceptional service by recommending a great local Nara sake to pair with my lunch course., The second day of Kaiseki was equally delightful and I was extremely surprised to be greeted by the 料理長, Mr Nobukazu Yoshida who honestly provided such an “Omotenashi” experience throughout my time at Azekura. Mr Okubo Ren and Ms Miyamae also delivered great service during my lunch dining on the second day. Overall, the dining experience at Azekura was the highlight of my stay and till now, I couldn’t help but marvel due to the great service that was initiated by Mr Wang Yu Wen. Additionally, I would like to commend the impeccable service I received during the check-in process. I I was impressed at Mr Kim’s patience and service throughout the check-in experience, and I was really glad to get a warm welcoming experience from both Mr Arjun and Ms Pitcha at the lobby. Their attention to detail and willingness to accommodate specific requests made a significant difference, setting the tone for an enjoyable and happy stay. It is evident that the team takes pride in delivering top-notch service, and their efforts did not go unnoticed. Furthermore, the hospitality at the lounge was exemplary. Despite the huge crowd during the festive season, the lounge staff did create a comfortable and enjoyable one. The historical significance of this venue must be highlighted to illustrate its uniqueness in Nara - We signed up for the complimentary tour of the hotel offered to hotel guests on certain mornings of the week and had the pleasure of having Ms. Sato, the director of marketing, introduce the story of Shisui and its past-life as the residence of the governor of Nara between 1922 to 2017, then as Shisui hotel with guest-rooms designed by renown architect Kengo Kuma. The emperor of Japan had stayed on property in post-war to sign the San Francisco treaty. Sato-san's thorough introduction in fluent-english had me realise a stay at this hotel is a unique experience in the way that it is beyond just luxury. The staff had been wonderful and eager to please without pushiness. It was much appreciated, as it gave room for my wife and I to enjoy each other's company at this perfectly peaceful property. The staff had been amazing from the beginning, at check-in, we had Rika-san, a lady with eyes that can smile, to help us check-in while we rest our feet at the lounge with tea, then guide us to our room while briefing us on all its amenities. The rooms were modern with accents of traditional Japanese designs to remind me of the locations' history. Details like the washroom walls that look like zen-gardens and overall wooden decor made my stay at the room one of the most relaxing experiences ever at any hotel. The French-Japanese wine-paired dinner at Suiyou was also our culinary highlight of our two-week vacation in Japan. In summary, after the two night stay, my wife had requested that we should come back to Shisui in the spring, summer and fall to experience all the seasons at this venue.

DO NOT STAY HERE unless you want your baby’s cot taken away and they force you to have your baby sleep on the floor and be squashed! That is exactly what they did to us while my baby was still sleeping in her cot they wanted to take away my baby’s cot leaving her bed less. Where would my baby sleep when they took my cot away ?! The hotel doesn’t care about you and the service is terrible. I told them months before booking I needed a cot which they assured me they had. Then the hotel proceeded to take away my baby’s cot during our 2 week stay leaving my baby in unsafe sleeping conditions as she had NO WHERE TO SLEEP!!! The service here is terrible. You are better off staying somewhere else. They are very inhumane to treat a baby like that and leave a baby bed less to sleep on the floor. My baby is unable to sleep in our bed as we are heavy sleepers and do not want to squash her while we slept. This hotel is terrible! DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I am so baffled that an entire big hotel only has 1 cot that guests have to fight over? And even when you booked the cot first and have your baby sleeping in the cot first the hotel would still take your baby’s cot away and leaving your baby bed less!!!! Utterly disgusting and unacceptable!!! I want a full refund based upon the lie that they told me that there is a cot available to use when there is not!!! To all families: DO NOT STAY HERE!!!

Very nice hotel，but service is not OK. Maybe I should say”bad”. We booked 1 room with 3 beds for 3 people, due to the booking system could input only 2 names, we have 1 person’s name missing. The 2 ladies in the front desk of the hotel told that we need to pay extra JPN 3900 for the additional bed. Or, we could only have 2 beds for 3 people. I said no, because it’s included in the room charge, we paid already. The ladies have no will to help us to solve the problem, but very interested in charging more. Try to imagine, will 2 people book 3 beds room for 2 beds? why don’t people book a same type standard room to save some money? Please contact with your agent to fix your booking system. Finally a gentleman of the hotel helped to negotiate,and we could live here. The room is really nice and clean. But the service is the worst I’ve ever seen in Japan.

Fantastic Hotel with a perfectly convenient location. The only thing is the bad attitude of a female manager at the front desk. We asked for more bottled water, but she refused. Refusing is OK, but she thought we didn't understand Japanese and said some bad words to us. Unfortunately, we are just not fluent in Japanese, but we can totally understand what she was saying. A pathetic woman manager ruined other staff's good service and hard work.

We stayed one night in FUFU Nara on the way from Tokyo to Kyoto. We took a special train - Aoniyoshi from Kyoto to Nara and it was very enjoyable ride. We took a taxi from Kintetsu Nara station to the hotel. Hotel staff greeted us right away and kept the our luggage for us until the check-in time. It is located next to Ukimido and we were able to visit Todaiji and the giant Buddha before the check-in. Once we return, we had a nice cold welcome drink. Hotel staff were very professional and friendly. It was obvious that they take a great pride on performing their tasks. Our room was super clean and modern with some Japanese touches. And the hot tub on the balcony was amazing. We contemplated between FUFU and the new Shisui, but we were very glad that we chose FUFU. At FUFU, I believe all rooms are suites and come with the private open air onsen. We did read some reviews on the noise. We did not notice too much especially after dodging so many screaming school children at Todaiji. At night, we had teppan yaki dinner for our anniversary. It was pretty cool to dress in yukata with a hanten jacket. The sandals were comfortable, also. We walked through the bamboo garden to get to the restaurant. Our chef was friendly and food was delicious. With sake pairing, we had a great time. Breakfast was served at the same restaurant, and the walk was beautiful in the morning. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. The lady who served us explained each dish very politely. It's hard to believe they are so helpful even without any tips. Staying at FUFU made our stay in Nara very special.

This stay was impreccable efficient and clean. The arrival at the peak was just a series of never ending surprises in architecture and attractions.

10 seconds walk from JR Nara Station. It's okay even if it rains. Hotel check-in is on the 3rd floor. The bathhouse on the 6th floor is free. Free drinks on the 3rd floor. Breakfast shows the pride of the hotel. Very delicious.

This is the first hotel I left before my stay was over literally in decades - and as it was a no-frills booking, of course no money back. The location isn't half as good as people in the reviews make it out to be; it's a big mass hotel with a Japanese theme only; it's two stars at best (here three; the booking website gave four). The real problem was the rundown, smelly, not deeply cleaned room, and I get - and chose - the Japanese style, but that doesn't mean you won't have any English information at all, nor functionable electricity plugs, and normally if you need to lie down and rest, a futon bed will be made up for you. When arriving, the staff member showing me the room couldn't open the door for five minutes because of the lock, and that stayed symbolical. As the worst was the unfriendly (male) reception staff, the lowest level of hospitality ever, unprofessional to the max - I think they didn't try to accommodate me (literally and figuratively) as they thought if I'd leave they'd keep the money but could rerent the room, as there was some festival in town. Never looking for solutions, always thinking from convenience from their side - from useless waiting to always having better things to do to talk to guests to not even trying to help in any way to create a nice stay. It's rare in Japan that people with an unhospitable attitude work in hospitality. I'm usually neither grouchy nor unduly demanding, as my long track record of tripadvisor reviews shows - this was really a lowpoint of lodging in my life, and one of two of the worst places I ever stayed in East Asia. I was really glad to leave and be back on the train to Kyoto, and I recommend anyone to book a nice Ryokan or a good global-Western hotel in Nara instead.
