This line cuts straight through downtown Taipei and is a backbone for both tourists and locals.

This line was quieter and gave me a peek into the everyday lives of locals. Still very connected and worth a ride if you like venturing off the beaten path.

This line is elevated (above ground), so the views are super syok if you like greenery and mountain backdrops.

There are two train options:
- Express Train: Fewer stops, ~35 minutes
- Commuter Train: More stops, ~50 minutes

⏰ Taipei MRT Operating Hours
The Taipei MRT runs from around 6:00 AM to 12:00 AM daily. Trains arrive every 2–5 minutes during peak hours and around 7–10 minutes late at night.
⏱️ I caught the last train a couple of times from Ximen after supper—no worries at all. Stations display the timing of the last train for each platform, so you won’t get stuck.

Breakfast was excellent . It’s cheaper to book room include breakfast . We stayed for our breakfast from 0800-1030 hours !

We recently stayed at the Dinosaur Kingdom Family Room and transferred to a Premier Twin Room the following day. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff were consistently kind, helpful, and accommodating, which we truly appreciated.
We especially enjoyed the family room—it was thoughtfully designed and perfect for traveling with a young child. I had initially planned for a two-night stay in this room, but unfortunately, renovations were scheduled to begin the following day. This was a bit disappointing, as it made our time there feel quite short, especially with other activities already planned during our trip.
In comparison to other five-star hotels we’ve stayed in, I did find the lack of flexibility with early check-in a bit surprising, particularly for the themed room. We had hoped to settle in earlier, and similarly, the following day’s transfer to the Premier room was not available early as it was fully booked. While this was different from what I’m used to, I do understand that this may be part of their standard protocol.
On a positive note, we loved the buffet, and the rooms were very comfortable. The complimentary drinks were a nice touch, and the playroom area was excellent—clearly designed with families in mind. It was also lovely to see the hotel organizing activities for children. During our stay, there was a special event (like a children’s appreciation day?), where me and my baby were able to participate in arts and crafts and even received small prizes, which made the experience extra memorable.
The swimming pool was decent, though not very large, and the water was quite cold, so we ended up enjoying the bathtub instead.
One area for improvement would be cleanliness. We noticed visible dust in the room, which was concerning—especially since the room is designed for small children, and for someone like me who is diagnosed with allergies to multiple types of dust mites. I did raise this with Lara at the lobby, who kindly apologized and mentioned she would inform housekeeping. However, upon transferring rooms the next day, I still noticed dust in certain areas, which made me question the thoroughness of the cleaning.
Separately, I also observed that some toiletries (such as conditioner and lotion) were nearly empty upon arrival, suggesting they may not have been checked or replenished prior to our stay.
Despite these points, we genuinely had a pleasant experience overall and would consider returning. I’m also excited and curious to see what the next theme for the family rooms will be after the renovations.DariUS$ 211

I stayed here nine years ago, and its convenient location was a major plus, as was the attractive window design in the rooms back then. The facilities are still decent now, but they're starting to feel a bit outdated.
The air conditioning temperature control is inaccurate; it's either too cold or too humid and hot. The lack of disposable toiletries, and even conditioner, is quite inconvenient, but I respect the environmental policy. As I've gotten older, my sleep has become lighter, and I've started to notice how poor the soundproofing is. I could constantly hear the elevator doors opening, and even feel the vibrations from the trains downstairs.

I stayed for 5 consecutive nights, and from my room, I could see Taipei's landmarks like Taipei 101 and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Every day, I could also grab free snacks from the hotel's 'gan-a-pu' (a small convenience store), and they even provided a small bag for them, which was a thoughtful touch. The only minor drawback was one night when I was woken up by some noise. I called the front desk, and they immediately sent staff up to investigate. They said it was a pipe sound. Some hotels give you a room. Shangri-La Far Eastern, Taipei gave us a base for a trip we'll talk about for years. From the moment we walked in, the place felt considered, elegant without being cold, warm without losing its polish. That balance is rare, and it set the tone for everything that followed.
Traveling with kids changes what matters most in a stay, and this hotel understood that instinctively. My children felt safe here, genuinely safe, the kind of safe that let them run ahead in the lobby and laugh without me flinching. Security throughout the property was excellent, present but never intrusive, the kind of quiet competence that lets a family actually relax instead of staying on guard.
The location did the rest. Close enough to walk to some of Taipei's best food, the kind of meals that turn into stories you tell later, and near enough to the city's main sites that our days felt full without ever feeling rushed. Every outing started and ended easily, which meant more time enjoying Taipei and less time managing logistics.
Back at the hotel each evening, the rooms were spacious, immaculate, and quietly luxurious, the kind of space that makes you want to slow down. Staff treated our kids with the same warmth and respect they showed us, which matters more than most hotels realize.
This wasn't just a comfortable stay. It was a beautiful one, the kind that makes you rethink what a family trip can feel like when everything, safety, comfort, location, care, comes together the way it should. We left grateful, and we'll be back.DariUS$ 268

The hotel's location isn't super convenient, you'll need a taxi to get around. However, they do provide a shuttle bus service, and on weekends, there's even a shuttle to Jiantan Station for the Shilin Night Market.
The hotel's decor has a very distinctive style, and the service is excellent. Staying in the back building is a bit inconvenient as it requires a shuttle, but the staff are very helpful and the shuttle arrives quickly when called.
The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and each comes with a dehumidifier.
The food is delicious, but remember to make a reservation in advance for the Yuan Yuan Restaurant on weekends, as it fills up quickly and doesn't accept walk-ins. We ended up going to the cafe for beef noodles and bubble tea, which were both very good. I wouldn't recommend the salt and pepper chicken, though.DariUS$ 100

This is probably the most cost-effective hotel in Taipei. The room size is decent, but it's definitely showing its age. There was a stale, sweaty smell in both the room and the hallway. The executive lounge service was excellent, no complaints there. However, the front desk service on the first floor was absolutely terrible. An elderly lady couldn't hear what the staff member was saying, and the short-haired staff member repeated herself several times with extreme impatience, then threw things and rolled her eyes, which was quite disgusting. The room was spacious, and the well-designed lighting made the absence of a window hardly noticeable. The bed was comfortable, and having extra pillows readily available in the closet was a thoughtful touch.
The bathroom was the highlight of my stay. The excellent water pressure and consistently hot water from both the shower and bathtub made every bath incredibly relaxing. And breakfast was better than I expected.
The location is perfect for both shoppers and business travelers, ease access to MRT Blue-line. For an empty bag of souvenir, after party shots or late bight worker, there is FamilyMart, 7-Eleven, and 24hrs Carrefour that fulfil yourself within 300m walk around the hotel.DariUS$ 100

I’ve seen a lot of videos recommending this hotel so i booked it. Location is great but it’s not near to the station, you have to walk around 10-15mins to Ximen station and about 20mins to Taipei main station. Staffs were just neutral, not super friendly but they do their jobs. Check in was smooth (they have 24hrs front desk) and I requested for 2 additional pillows (they only provided 2 in the room) and they granted my request with no additional payments. What i didn’t know is how thin the walls are and We got unlucky with the room next to us. He set an alarm almost every minute with different ring tones. And he didn’t wake up from his own alarm 🥲I went down to front desk and earplugs were given for free. We ended up canceling our 1st day trip due to lack of sleep. By the next night, I sleep better (but still keep waking up because earplugs hurt my ears)

The location is good, with a bus stop right outside the hotel, which makes getting around very convenient. The lobby is beautiful, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
However, considering the overall standard of the hotel, I expected better maintenance of the room. The bathroom felt quite dated, and the shower curtain did not prevent the water from getting onto the bathroom floor. I also noticed stains on the carpet and a towel with a hole in it.
Considering the price I paid, I expected a higher standard of room maintenance.

The location is very convenient, with Xinyi District right downstairs. However; the service at the front desk was disappointing.
Due to a change in our plans, we booked one additional night and asked whether we could simply remain in the same room without checking out. As the new reservation was made by different person, we did not realise that our original to had a Taipei 101 view and was priced higher. The front desk insisted that we had to pay th difference to stay in the same room. While I understand that hotels have policies regarding different room catergories, (at the end we still paid, not we unwilling to pay) the staff’s attitude was very rigid and unfriendly, with little effort made to explain the situation or offer an alternative.
I stayed at this hotel last year and was given a complimentary upgrade to the same room type. This time, we had already booked two rooms for five nights before adding the extra night, so I expected a 5 star hotel to handle the situation with more warmth and flexibility. Hygiene: There's a magnetic sticker on the door, so you can request daily cleaning. The housekeeping staff are incredibly efficient; the room was sparkling clean by the time I finished breakfast.
Facilities: The room isn't small, and the window offers a view of Ximending street. It has a smart TV for screen mirroring, so you can watch Netflix and YouTube. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. Disposable slippers are provided, but not disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, or shower caps. The soundproofing is good, but the air conditioning fan is too loud, even on the lowest setting. The breakfast menu changes daily and is mostly Western. Free drinks and snacks are available from afternoon to evening.
Environment: It's right next to Ximen MRT Station, and there's a bus stop nearby that goes to almost all city attractions. Ximending is just around the corner, very lively at night with lots of food options. Downstairs, there's a Hello Kitty themed 7-Eleven, an Animate manga store, and a Family Mart.
Service: The front desk staff are all very patient and enthusiastic, with excellent service attitudes. Free luggage storage is available.

An excellent stay! The room was very spacious, and the location was super convenient. It's just over 100 meters from Exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, and only two stops from Taipei Main Station. Getting to Taoyuan Airport by express train takes less than an hour. There are multiple FamilyMart and 7-Eleven stores nearby, plus a Don Quijote. The hotel used to be a bank vault, so the decor is quite unique. They offer welcome drinks and a free snack buffet. It's only 500 meters from Fuhang Soy Milk and just 200 meters from Simple Kaffa, the world champion coffee shop, along with other cafes – all within walking distance. Huashan 1914 Creative Park is right next door. Overall, it's an incredibly convenient hotel. The soundproofing is decent; I slept well without much noise from the street or cars. The location is great, wished it was slightly closer to the MRT station (around 10 minute walk from Nanjing Sanmin Station). Only 5 minute walk from Raohe Night Market so you don't need to worry about what to eat every night.
The hotel is well kept and very clean, we were assigned to a room in B1, no views but not a big issue. Breakfast is available for additional fee (200 NTD per person). Hotel staffs were very helpful and friendly. No gym at the facility but I think it's fairly common for the hotels in this price range in Taipei.
We were out and about during the day, the hotel provided us a good night sleep every day of our stay. Overall I recommended this facility.DariUS$ 66

I had an exceptional stay at Éclat Hotel Taipei. The room was immaculate and beautifully designed with high-end touches like a Dyson hair dryer and a Nespresso machine. The staff were incredibly attentive and professional, making the check-in process seamless. I also loved the location it’s in the heart of Da’an District, very close to the MRT and surrounded by fantastic restaurants and convenience stores. I enjoyed my stay because the room was huge and very well maintianed, nice gym and there is a pool that was long enough to do a swim work out. The BF was worth it at NTD550, and there is a nearby 7-11 in case you need anything ( snacks, drinks, etc. ). There are also nearby restos and bars via a short walk. The nearby Omakase resto was amazing.

A Serious Failure in Management and Guest Service
I have never experienced this level of poor service and lack of management oversight at a hotel.
Throughout my stay, I had to repeatedly request housekeeping, yet my room was still not cleaned as expected. More seriously, there was even an occasion when I needed to use the bathroom and discovered that there was no toilet paper available.
I immediately brought this issue to the attention of the front desk. However, despite making a formal complaint, the exact same problem occurred again the following day.
At that point, this could no longer reasonably be considered a simple oversight or an isolated housekeeping mistake. The hotel had already been made aware of the problem, yet nothing appeared to have been done to prevent it from happening again.
The most disappointing part is that these issues continued until the day I checked out. After repeatedly reporting the same problems without seeing any meaningful improvement, I eventually stopped complaining simply because I no longer believed that doing so would make any difference.
A hotel may occasionally make a mistake — that is understandable. What is unacceptable is failing to correct a problem after a guest has already brought it to management's attention. This reflects a serious breakdown in communication between departments, inadequate supervision, and a lack of accountability at the management level.
Basic housekeeping and essential bathroom supplies are not unreasonable requests. They are fundamental standards that guests should be able to expect without having to repeatedly chase the hotel for them.
What concerns me most is that the hotel appeared to have multiple opportunities to correct the situation, yet failed to do so. This suggests that the issue is not simply with an individual staff member, but with the way the hotel’s service operations are being managed and supervised.
This experience seriously damaged my trust in the hotel and left me with a very negative impression of its overall management and service standards. A hotel’s reputation is built on how it treats guests, especially when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, in this case, the hotel failed not only to deliver basic service, but also to respond effectively when those failures were brought to its attention.
I sincerely hope management does not dismiss this as a minor housekeeping issue. The repeated nature of these problems, combined with the lack of effective follow-up, represents a significant management failure and can seriously damage guest trust, customer satisfaction, and ultimately the hotel’s reputation.
For me, the most disappointing part was not that a mistake happened. It was that the hotel was given multiple opportunities to fix it — and chose not to.DariUS$ 39
🧭 Summary of the Taipei MRT Map – Why It’s a Game-Changer
After exploring Taipei from morning till malam every day, I can honestly say that the Taipei MRT system made my trip so much easier, cheaper, and more fun. 😄 I didn’t need to worry about expensive taxis, complicated routes, or getting sesat in a new city.
With the Taipei MRT map in one hand and my EasyCard in the other, I managed to:
- Catch sunset at Tamsui Old Street 🌅
- Relax in the Beitou hot springs ♨️
- Eat non-stop at Shilin and Raohe night markets 🍢
- Take the Maokong Gondola for tea with a view 🍵
- Hike up Elephant Mountain and snap pics of Taipei 101 📸
And all this was just a few MRT stops away!
The trains are clean, the stations are well-marked, and the connections are super smooth. As a Malaysian who’s used to crowded LRTs and complicated bus changes, I was really impressed lah. 🙌
