If it’s your first time in Taiwan, let me assure you: the Taipei MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is one of the most tourist-friendly transport systems I’ve ever used. It’s reliable, air-conditioned (a must!), and signs are in Mandarin, English, and even Pinyin, so tak payah risau.

🔴 Red Line (Tamsui–Xinyi Line 淡水信義線)

Route: Tamsui – Xiangshan
Best For: Iconic sights, sunset views, hot springs & shopping

This was my most-used line! It takes you from the scenic north (Tamsui) to the city’s bustling shopping and skyscraper zones.

Nanjing Fuxing (南京復興): Interchange with Brown Line, great for shopping

Gongguan (公館): University area, cute cafes, bookshops, & cheap local eats 🍱

Route: Nanshijiao – Luzhou / Huilong (Y-shaped)
Best For: Local life & exploring the less-touristy Taipei

This line was quieter and gave me a peek into the everyday lives of locals. Still very connected and worth a ride if you like venturing off the beaten path.

Nanshijiao (南勢角): Local street food & markets
Daqiaotou (大橋頭): Dihua Street nearby – traditional Chinese medicine & fabric shops
Luzhou (蘆洲): Great for local vibes and temple visits
Zhongxiao Xinsheng (忠孝新生): Quick switch to Blue Line

There are two train options:

Express Train: Fewer stops, ~35 minutes
Commuter Train: More stops, ~50 minutes

There's construction on one side of the hotel, and the old windows don't close properly, so diesel fumes from the crane wafted directly into the bedroom. Not to mention the noise from the building work – imagine driving a car without air conditioning, stuck behind a diesel truck constantly spewing exhaust fumes. The result? A headache that required painkillers. Luckily, Trip.com was great and got me a room change. The mattress is very soft, so if you prefer lumbar support, you should reconsider. The family with kids next door was very noisy, and the front desk promptly moved me to another room. The transportation is very convenient, with the MRT station just a two-minute walk away. The hotel lobby is like an MRT platform, bustling with people – from young to old, student groups to limping seniors, all attending some event. It's the opposite of quiet. If you enjoy crowded fairs, you might like the lively atmosphere. Even checking in took about 10 minutes.

The service was good and the staff were friendly and welcoming. Although the room was relatively small, it was clean and offered a nice view. The bathroom and toilet are separated, though the bath tub and toilet space are quite small. The location is very convenient, as it is only about a 5-minute walk to Longshan Temple. The hotel is also close to Mengxia Night Market, making it easy to explore local food and attractions. One minor inconvenience is that the lifts can be quite slow, as the hotel has two blocks with three lifts each, so waiting time can be longer during busy periods. Overall, it was a comfortable and convenient stay.

We stayed in The Grand Hotel for 2 nights. We really enjoyed it. The receptionist is very nice and helpful. The bedroom is very clean. Although the location is quite away from MTR, there are free shuttle bus to travel in between. Especially there are quite a lot of shuttle buses between the hotel and Yuanshan MTR. I also enjoy two dinners and one breakfast in the hotel. They are fresh and delicious. If you like to live in a heritage building and not a time-poor traveler , The Grand Hotel is a very good option.

Stayed at the Regent for our 20 year anniversary. The room was very clean, perfect temperature, and they offered a welcome snack. There weren't any personalised welcomes unfortunately but the room was great. They no longer offer disposable bathroom amenities like toothbrush, toothpaste, cotton, combs, hair brush etc, you need to bring your own. We had the pleasure of enjoying Tai Pan Lounge. They are open 24/7 for tea and coffee but offer snacks during breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a specific period. We also enjoyed the spa. They don't have communal wet facilities, only in the room, so your time there is limited depending on the treatment you booked. They do have a health and fitness club in B3 though where you can enjoy such facilities at your leisure. We had our anniversary dinner at Robins Grill and it was perfect. Service was amazing, food was exquisite, and the vibe was so pleasant. Definitely coming back to Robins Grill, it was our second time there! Overall, our stay was beautiful and we didn't want to leave.

I stayed at this hotel for two nights. Originally, I had two separate bookings, but the front desk staff kindly merged them for me, which saved me from having to switch rooms – a huge thank you for that! The room was spacious (picture 1), but the hotel facilities are a bit dated, and there weren't enough power outlets in the room. There's a laundry room, but only one washing machine. The hotel is located at Taipei Main Station, which I initially thought was a great spot, but because the station is so vast and connected to an underground mall, it's very easy to get lost. The hotel's top floor offers views of some of Taipei's landmarks.

The location is excellent, just above the metro station and there are lots of nice restaurants, convenience store nearby. I have stayed here for quite many times. The room is spacious, however I could see quite much of dusts on some part of the rooms the time , eg light switch, bedside table. The bed and washroom looked clean (which mattered most for me), I didn’t really stay in the room a lot, so I didn’t request for room change or extra cleaning.

This hotel is a good location if you are coming to watch concert given that Taipei arena is right opposite within 1 traffic light away. I’m surprised and happy that they allowed us to check in early and we did it via self service check in kiosk. Hotel location is easy accessible within nearby metro and is also 2 station away from Songshan if you need to take a TRA to 九份. Surrounding with breeze mall and ikea right beside it and the best of all 7-11 mart is right in level 1 within the hotel without having you to walk all the way out if you need last minute supper or drinks. As this is an eco friendly hotel, hence no mineral water is given but flasks are provided to fill water via their water dispenser near the lift lobby and not to forget their coffee are provided in capsule with coffee machine instead of packet. Overall, I’m very pleased with the service, cleanliness, big room and hotel location. 😁

I had an excellent stay at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The location is unbeatable—right next to Taipei 101 and in the heart of the Xinyi district, making it so convenient for sightseeing, shopping, and dining. From the moment I arrived, the service was warm and attentive. The lobby is beautiful and welcoming, and the staff always greeted me with a smile. My room was spacious, very clean, and well-designed, with a comfortable bed and a great view of Taipei 101. Housekeeping kept everything spotless during my stay. Breakfast was another highlight—the buffet had a wide variety of delicious choices, both Western and Asian, and everything was fresh. I also appreciated the hotel facilities, especially the gym and pool, which were well maintained. Overall, I highly recommend the Grand Hyatt Taipei for anyone visiting the city. It truly delivers a luxury experience with comfort, excellent service, and perfect location. I will definitely stay here again on my next trip to Taipei.

Overall, it was a decent experience, especially the wide variety of breakfast options which deserve special commendation. However, there are a few areas for improvement. The in-room cleaning details could be better. Also, the tall gentleman with yellow hair who was greeting guests at breakfast had a terrible attitude. When I walked into the restaurant without stating my room number, I was immediately asked to go back to the entrance. There was also no greeting when I finished breakfast, which was very disappointing!

overall, it was an average experience. The room itself was clean, comfortable, and quiet, with surprisingly good soundproofing that made it easy to rest. I also appreciated the in-room coffee machine, which was a convenient touch for a quick morning pick-me-up. However, being located in the basement made the room feel a bit dark, and the bathroom facilities could be more modern, as the toilet was not a washlet. The breakfast offered was quite limited, and the service left something to be desired. While the staff were present, they did not proactively check on guests or offer assistance, and there was little interaction or friendliness. Simple gestures like greetings, smiles, or help with luggage were missing, which made the overall experience feel less welcoming. Additionally, during breakfast, food was cleared promptly at the set time without asking if guests were still eating or wanted more, which could have been handled more thoughtfully. On the positive side, the hotel provides the essentials for a short stay, and the rooms are quiet and functional. For travelers prioritizing comfort and a clean environment, this hotel is acceptable, but I feel that improved hospitality and more attention to guest experience would make a significant difference. Service really matters in hospitality, and it’s the area where this property could improve the most.

The room was spotless, comfortable, and beautifully maintained, with thoughtful amenities that made me feel right at home. The location was perfect — close to public transport, shops, and great local food spots. Breakfast was delicious with a nice variety of options. Overall, it was an excellent experience, and I would definitely stay here again on my next trip to Taipei!

The room is marvellous. The staff is extremely professional and friendly. The only slight downside is that the location is a bit of a walk to the subway stations, but there are plenty of shops nearby, including a night market, so overall this is still good. Would stay here again if I were to visit Taipei again.

Service was top tier! Every single personnel or staff in this hotel were very accommodating and friendly. The amenities were more than what we needed. And we got upgraded into Fabulous room and the view was beautiful. The interior of the room is my favorite. I loved my time here in W. The pool though honestly was a bit cold for me. They probably dont use their pool heater much but i enjoyed more in their sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.

I think the hotel is pretty much a four star hotel, so not expecting five star service. The room was lovely, with a Lego wall to entertain the kids, and their own floor beds just close to us. I also liked the floor table, easy for us to eat our takeout food. Housekeeping was a bit weird. The beds were not tidied, even though I wasn’t expecting any change of bedding. There were also random toys in the LEGO pile, probably left behind by other kids. Breakfast was almost the same daily but one stand out would be the tea machine to choose any type of flavoured tea. Think bubble tea without the bubbles. Location was not the best but actually manageable even for us with two young kids. It was cooling so the 10 min walk to the nearest metro was fine. The shuttle bus is more like a van that fits only 8 pax, fyi. There’s a convenience store just diagonally across the hotel. Some eateries available too, but note that they only take cash or Line Pay. Service was fine. Staff were always kind and helpful when needed. Umbrellas available for borrowing at the doorstep.

The room's cleanliness was decent, and the service was good. You can self check-in, and there's a common area where you can sit and use your laptop. I booked a standard room, and the space was alright. However, the main window faced the street, which was a night market, so the noise from traffic at night was very loud and affected my sleep. The hotel breakfast was pretty good.

The room was spotless, much better than I expected. The location is super convenient, not far from the MRT and Shilin Night Market. The front desk staff were really welcoming. No smoking in the rooms, but there's a designated smoking area right outside the front entrance.

🧭 Summary of the Taipei MRT Map – Why It’s a Game-Changer

After exploring Taipei from morning till malam every day, I can honestly say that the Taipei MRT system made my trip so much easier, cheaper, and more fun. 😄 I didn’t need to worry about expensive taxis, complicated routes, or getting sesat in a new city.

With the Taipei MRT map in one hand and my EasyCard in the other, I managed to:

Catch sunset at Tamsui Old Street 🌅
Relax in the Beitou hot springs ♨️
Eat non-stop at Shilin and Raohe night markets 🍢
Take the Maokong Gondola for tea with a view 🍵
Hike up Elephant Mountain and snap pics of Taipei 101 📸

And all this was just a few MRT stops away!

The trains are clean, the stations are well-marked, and the connections are super smooth. As a Malaysian who’s used to crowded LRTs and complicated bus changes, I was really impressed lah. 🙌
