The photos provided by the operators are extremely deceptive. The accomodation is old and run down. The shower tiles were painted at some stage, and it is now peeling off both the floor and the walls. The “updated” vanity basin and tap are poorly sizes and you are unable to fully wash your face due to the shape and size of the basin with a shorter necked faucet . There is no complete enclosure for water in the shower resulting in you flooding the bathroom each time you shower- we ended up using the common showers in the passageway to attempt keep our room dry. The toilet paper is only single ply so bring your own if you decide to stay here !! Our towels and sheets had stains on them and the pillows are flat and lumpy. I wouldn’t swim in the pool unless you’ve had your latest tetanus shots. We were followed back to the accommodation by a slightly hostile homeless person one night which was slightly unnerving for our teenage daughters. The nicest part of this accommodation is the outdoor BBQ area. The breakfast provided smelt ok, but we decided to eat at the cafe at the marina each day as we were heading out to the reef and islands anyways. We decided to stay here and save money as generally we are out during the day and only need a comfortable bed and a clean shower- next time we will be going back to our regular accommodation closer to the Esplanade. I loved this place despite some downsides. It’s in the best area of the island, at walking distance from a stunning beach (Horseshoe bay). I booked it because I’m a digital nomad and Selinas are normally great because they offer a coworking space. The only issue is that I work European hours and I often finish at 9:00pm (as most of digital nomads I guess) but the kitchen closes at 09:00 and all the restaurants in the island close at 09:00pm too. The result is that during the week you cannot eat 😅 that’s not optimal. On top of that Wi-Fi stopped working for one whole evening and the following morning and I was stressing out because I had to send some urgent emails that could not be sent. For the record - there is not even phone signal so you cannot use data as a backup, you really need to rely on the Wi-Fi. Another flaw is that it’s too far away from everything, the only supermarket is 1hr walk (the bus runs only a few times a day) and they don’t even offer a scooter hire service (I had to get the bus and go to the other l’art of the island - it would be great if they organised something for guests). Nevertheless if you’re staying for the weekend it’s totally worth it. The staff is really nice, the restaurant offers good food and the place is just like paradise, it’s in the middle of the koala park. You are immersed by nature and it’s stunning. The dorms have very comfy beds and some have their own bathroom which is great. I am writing what to improve just because this place could be even better and has some room for improvement. But I highly recommend anyone to go (and I am already doing so)

Omg staying at this hostel was equally parts traumatic and entertaining. The best way to describe it is imagine if a problematic 60 year old man opened a hostel with a nightclub underneath, and all the social activities were designed with other problematic 60 year old men in mind. They don't seem to do any sort of gender balancing in the mixed dorm, one girl checked into my room in the middle of the night, because she was put in a mixed dorms with only men over 50. The social activities are old fashioned but not in a good way, I'm talking wet t shirt contests, pole dancing competitions, jelly wrestling. But honestly this hostel gave most of the girls staying here the ick so we ended up having movie nights on the girls floor, going to the market and Esplanade together and to the free gym. I actually had a good time, ironically. The facilities at this hostel are really good to be fair, the dorms were clean, they all had air conditioning and balconies (unfortunately you are not able to control the temperature of the air conditioning or turn it off when it is cold outside), they had large well equipped kitchens, a pool and a free gym. Even the nightclub was a good venue, but the social activities are like something out of the Wolf Of Wall Street. If they are going to be a sleazy venue they could at least hire Magic Mike dancers. But honestly they just need to get a new entertainment manager and this place would be fine. Location is alright, about a twenty minute walk to the Esplanade.

Nomads Magnetic Island is fantastic! It offers a true island vibe with cozy sleep huts and plenty of outdoor space to relax. The bus stop right in front makes it easy to explore the island. The showers are warm and spacious. This is definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in!

Room 13 - yea shall I say no more room 13 and it’s not great!! Bad points- No manned reception, was advised 3 hours before arrival must precheck in or will be denied a room after I fully paid for all rooms are pin only. I don’t have a problem great idea. The beds are one of the worst I’ve ever slept in. I travel to some of the worst places and there are beds better then these the main bed springs felt like they were breaking through the bed every turn was the noisiest would wake everyone in the room. The mattress felt over 30 years old worn and like you would fall through it. Great grandmas mattress is better The single bed was better but 4 people can sleep in one comfortable bed No extra pillows or blankets The floor had not been vacuumed all stuff in one area of the floor - room smelt clean (spritz spray) Dust everywhere, bugs in the room and holes in the bath towels. Mould in the shower all over the door The bathroom door had to be opened and closed with force Curtains have marks all over them not clean Aircon was particularly broken more cosmetic looks, chilled amazingly The room is right next to a main door everyone that comes in or out - slams the door all hours No soft closing hinge would be good if there was one wouldn’t be woken up with the slam every-time no Foxtel - no one made up your room like other motels the next day (no big deal just an fyi) When I arrived I had a toddler, child and 2 large bags and asked if there was lifts the staff lol and said the stairs are there and stayed sitting on the ground. I walked up the exit car park ramp with all bags and children ( no I’m not precious just not convenient) Holes in the wall in the main room near dining table Holes in walls in the bathroom Good points…. Great price Great location walking distance to Hamilton precinct IGA, Woolworths metro, lots of eateries and Eat St (amazing place of all types of food vans) Great distance walking distance to the ferries Out dates Furniture looked like it was from the 1970s (I don’t have an issue just an FYI) A little bar fridge with separate freezer was amazingly cold I wouldn’t rate this place 3.5/4 stars maybe 2.5-3 disappointed but you get what you pay for. I have some photos for proof of asked to supply .

Good location motel for families, in front of Gold Coast Highway that close to the bus stop to go to airport or to the boardbeach south, where we can easily hop in to the trem / bus to central (surfer paradise, carvill / cypress ave) or Movie World. The motel have swimming pool and big bed with complete facilities for families (netflix, iron, toaster, microwave, refrigerator, utensils) and also has a 70 model bathroom in very clean condition. Besides hotels they have 24 night owl supermarket and many restourante (italia, japanese, ice cream etc) with 5 mins walk distance to Mermaid beach at the end of the road.

Stayed overnight in the Brisbane quarters after having to make a last minute booking and being faced with limited accomodation options. I think this place is trying to promote itself as a hybrid hostel/hotel. However having stayed there it’s clearly the former rather than the later. There is of course, nothing wrong with that - but I think it’s been a source of some confusion and previous negative reviews. On the plus side the staff were really friendly, the location was central and the private room we stayed in was fine - with TV (with Netflix), a clean private bathroom, small bar fridge and comfortable bed. It had a compact infinity pool, small kitchen and fitness space (very limited though). It looked recently renovated. Breakfast was included but for memory this was just cereal and toast. On the negative side - it is a hostel. This isn’t really clear on TripAdvisor for some reason. Anyone >40 years of age will feel like a dinosaur here. It carries all the traditional tells of a hostel - you get your towel assigned at reception, it’s noisy and the sheets are a bit threadbare. They will ask for your passport or drivers licence as your form of ID. Overall it’s a great option if you know what you’re in for. I think the private rooms are only worth it if they are priced around 100 dollars or less as there are usually plenty of hotels around that 150-200 mark.
