Just a lovely, lovely stay. Staff very warm and welcoming (special shout out to Cass and Tony!). Room was very comfortable and oh so quiet. Lots of shelf and drawer space. We had dinner here the first night. It was an evening long affair and we felt very pampered: drinks and nibbles in the drawing room, dinner in the dining room, and then a nice finish with coffee/tea back in the drawing room. Food was wonderfully prepared. Pace of meal was perfect.

Went for dinner in the conservatory restaurant. Started off in the drawing room had a drink there they took 50 minutes to come and take food order. Then we went through to restaurant to be served our food it was fantastic great meal had coffee and fudge to finish.

As a regular at the Marcliffe, it was not up to previous standards. New staff are all finding their way. The restaurant was disappointing with a rare steak arriving well done and a chicken dish overcooked. Service was also slow. The new owner needs to get a grip quickly.

We visited your hotel last week for 2 nights we asked for room 302 as this was the room we had when our daughter got married at your hotel 2 years ago we were blown away with the service and standard when she got married and nothing has changed hotel is amazing from housekeeping to bar staff to restaurant and food that is served it is all amazing don’t change what u are already doing this hotel is well worth 5 stars just an amazing experience

The food was very good and the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They are also very helpful when it comes to different wines. The only negative thing I can say is that the wait staff aren’t very good at ‘seeing’ people especially at smaller parties. So for example, after the starters had been eaten they won’t come over even after like 20-30 minutes. Even then it was only because we’d get someone’s attention not because they would see the empty plates. Other than that it’s definitely value for money.

Elegance and attention to detail were evident in our lovely stay. From the moment we walked in the door, we were welcomed and cared for. This beautiful property is a dream to walk around with a lovely surprise around each corner. The staff was helpful to all any need or request. We enjoyed a rare beautiful sunny day!

While the prices may not reflect a five star hotel the issues we experienced don’t even give me the wish to pay those prices. We booked our rooms last November and I booked a junior suite. Upon arrival we were allocated a room and when they advised where our room was I made a comment that the room was far. We were taken to a sad, tired looking room that did not look like a junior suite. The bathroom ceiling was badly peeling paint and the carpet looked like it was falling apart. I went down to complain and had to wait for the manager. She finally moved us to another room that appeared to be a junior suite. However later that afternoon we went to have a shower and the shower head didn’t work. When we questioned it we were told it was broken. The suite was still tired looking with rips in the curtains but a little better than the previous room. In the lounge it was difficult to get service and when we finally did it was slow and unremarkable. There seems to be a great deal of young new staff. Again more is expected from a 5-star resort. Apparently there are new owners and they will need to do a great deal of work to bring this property to a 5-star level. Good luck.

Had afternoon tea in the drawing room. The drawing room was a really nice environment for afternoon tea. The food was delicious. Fresh sandwiches, lovely cakes, and scones. The food was outstanding. Service on arrival was great, but unfortunately, it was perhaps too busy for the number of staff thereafter. The tea was not hot, and no one was available or free to ask for more. When we asked if boxes were available to take home what we had left, they said they didn't have them anymore but had a large bag from the spa we could use. If those few things could be improved, it would most certainly be a 5 star review.

Afternoon Tea was fabulous. Beautifully made sandwiches, lovely home baked scones and absolutely fabulous patisserie. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive without being overly attentive. Hotel was so nice, easy parking and beautiful grounds. Will definitely book again and can recommend.
