There is so much to unpack here when it comes to Selina Birmingham. Never again am I staying at this hellhole of a hotel. For a name like Selina, the hotel sure is nightmarish to stay at. It's shameful that the hotel shares the same name with my non-biological/cosplay partner. There is no breakfast but at least, the bedding, the pillows and the duvet are comfy (but most likely due to the fact that I’m tired) and the wi-fi is decent. Unfortunately, this is where the compliments stop, especially when the dorm rooms are so dark, you have to turn on the flashlight on your phone in order to see. Not to mention, there is no television in the room I was staying in. To make matters worse, the dorm room is cold, coupled with no heating. I honestly don't mind the cold most of the time but the room temperature is too cold for my liking. Speaking of the ground floor, the Korean receptionist told me that I'm not allowed to eat my food at a table at the cafe and told me to climb the stairs all the way to the third floor in order to eat my food. It isn't fair, considering the receptionist with the short, dark hair tends to allow me to eat my food at a table at the cafe during the very early hours of the morning. I eventually lost my patience and yelled at the Korean receptionist. It's rare when I lose my patience. I threatened in a growly voice with, ”I suggest you fill the pot noodle to the top with water unless you want a scathing, negative review to be blasted on the radio for everyone to hear?”. Finally, she got the memo. The rooms, bathrooms and toilets and facilities are unsanitary (for example, there are biscuit crumbs all over the bed sheets. I didn't know until I got out of bed), the entire hotel itself is not accessibility-friendly as if the lack of a lift and the staff not being accommodating towards disabled people such as myself isn’t of any indication, the kitchen and the kitchen equipment on the third floor are dirty, there is no hot water in some of the bathrooms within the dorm rooms, the bathrooms and the dorm rooms are shared (therefore, there is no privacy), the lights keep turning themselves off if you’re idle (I’m more used to turning on and off the lights on my own accord), you need to pay £10 for a padlock which is complicated for disabled people and the list goes on. The toilets, bathrooms, kitchen etc are just as dirty as Badea Faulkner and Olive Allison Brown from the Avanzar House in Middleton, Manchester not cleaning up after themselves. And don’t get me started on the staff being problematic. They aren’t very useful to the point where I had to shout at them due to their language barriers and them not listening to me, let alone understanding me. This is troubling for autistic people like me. Never in all my years have I encountered such frustrating hotel staff members. Compared to the other hotels I've stayed at in the past, the hotel staff in these hotels were never infuriating. If a lack of staff doesn’t tell you the appalling

I cant thank the staff enough from check in to check out the service was excellent. The ladies on check in were very efficient and helped with car park charges.
The staff were accommodating to provide extra toilet roll finished in room and nothing was an inconvenience for the staff.
I will most likely visit again.

Location is excellent with both Moor Street railway station and New Street railway station nearby. It's near to the malls where there is a M&S supermarket. There is also a lots of choice for food. Room itself has a small kitchen area which I didn't use. I had a comfortable stay and location is central enough to get around easily.

At 1st glance I was not that impressed. BUT as soon as I entered the reception area my experience began to improve. Very welcoming and polite receptionist. My room was spacious, spotless, and with a view of the canal(wasn't expecting that!)
As a smoker, the terrace by the canal was an added bonus.
Great breakfast too. All in all, a great overnight stay was had.

The check-in staff is very nice. The dining staffs were too much in a rush because there are too many guests for breakfast (btw it was uni open day). However, the food was nice and loved the hash brown. The location of the hotel is perfect for vising the University of Birmingham and it is 10 mins driving distance from the city centre. The room was clean and the size is sufficient for 2 guests and luggage.

Great hotel five mins from the bus stop. Staff very helpful. Only issue was stepping into the bath. The glass screen is fixed so you have to step in and get out the end where no ridged service. I would advise if you are small or with shorter legs then for safety ask for a shower or put a towel in the bath to stop you from falling. Housekeeping beware please ensure cups are properly washed.

Hotel is a little bit dated but very handy Location for anyone attending the NEC. Bus brings you right to the door. It seems to be co-joined to a restaurant and although the Hotel doesn't do breakfast, you can get breakfast there for a very reasonable price.

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Hotel and facilities were very clean and mostly well kept. The bed was really noisy and creaky but not a major issue. Was slightly annoying to find you had to pay for parking as I didn't see this when booking the hotel but was fairly priced. Would stop again in the future.
SSavy GandhiThe hotel was good and the rooms was big not sure as I was given the disability room without the need. The room was clean and had all the things. The view was fine from the room and breakfast was good with mostly all the things from continental.
PPengguna TetamuLocation - Great location in the Jewellery Quarter (JQ). JQ is a nice part of Birmingham with some good bars and cafes and good tram access to the city centre. If you’re not from Birmingham it might be a bit out of the centre for your liking, at least a 20 minute walk from the city centre.
Size - I went for the apartment which was 20m2. Bloc is designed on ‘Japanese space saving techniques’ and you can tell. This was the largest room they had available and I thought it was comfortable for one, but it’s marketed for two which would be a bit cramped in my opinion.
Layout - Nicely furnished inside and very clean. Plenty of fresh towels and a nice en-suite shower room (albeit low water pressure). A bedroom and living room tv although these only have Freeview, which seemed apartment as the room is presented as ‘high-tech’, with lights and TV being controlled by a touchscreen. (It’s also easier to control the TV with the standard remote).
Amenities - Two complementary bottles of water, some tea and coffee sachets, milk sachets and lotus biscuits in the room. A microwave available (in apartment, possibly not in double room). Hairdryer and coat hangers in the room but couldn’t see any iron or ironing board - perhaps available on request but would be nice for guests on business trips to have this in the room.
Sleep - Reasonably comfortable bed for a short stay. Can heard rain dripping outside the window throughout the night despite windows closed which may disturb light sleepers, otherwise a quiet location.
Value - Great value considering the prime location and the relatively spacious size for the price.
KKKB KKBLocation of the hotel was excellent. Parking is £13 for the night on site. Room was clean. The aircon did not work and it’s was so got my partner almost fainted. I called up the manager who came along with the housekeeping. The housekeeping tried to say oh it’s motion sensored and you got to wait 30 minutes or so to come on. I’m standing there looking at her like say what again?! I explained to her nobody has time to wait around for the air con to come on for that long like tia 1994! Even the manager stood there who agreed it was hot. All our food had gone cold. And eventually 30 mins later they moved us to the room next door and from the word go it was so much cooler and the air con was working.. wait for it.. without anybody being there for the “motion a/c” to work. They didn’t do anything about the food that went cold, the inconvenience. Manager did offer to get us drinks but we don’t drink so pointless. He offered to reimburse £13 for parking again not worth it. Overall it was a poor experience but slightly made up for it when we moved room. This is not really the marriot experience and we made the mistake not to use the usual aloft hotel east side who are always 5/5!
PPengguna TetamuI arrived past the check-in time, and reception was not around to receive me. Nonetheless, there was a number on the door to call, and I was talked through the process of getting in with the code, and to collect my keys. The gentleman was incredibly patient with me, which was appreciated as it was late, and I was exhausted from a long work day and it was my first time in Birmingham so I got lost finding my way from the train station to the accommodation.
The apartment was incredibly spacious. The living room and kitchen made me feel right at home, and the kitchen was well equipped. There were two bedrooms and two bathrooms - I was a single traveller so I didn't need to use all that space at all.
The bed I slept in was marvellously comfortable. The bathroom was spacious, the water pressure was strong, and I really have zero complains about it.
Location wise, there is a mall next door, although by the time I arrived it was closed, and when I left for my work meeting at 7am the next morning it wasn't opened yet. There were also some restaurants by the waterfront around the corner.
I think this is a great accommodation for families or friends travelling together.
PPengguna TetamuIt's a chain hotel close to a busy airport, so:
A/ You should expect a noisy night from aircraft and a busy road outside or
B/ Ibis should have spent a bit more on noise insulation.
Whichever your view, it was a night disturbed by noise from outside. My view was A, up until 1am and I veered towards B thereafter.
That said, it was immaculately clean and the staff I encountered were polite, helpful and cheerful.
It is, as I say, close to the airport and I booked it with the idea that I could walk from Birmingham International railway station to the Ibis. And I could walk from Ibis to the departure gate. In theory, yes I could have done that, but given the types of roads I would have had to walk along, I would have been in mortal peril if I had tried. A £6 Bolt fare each way should be added on to the cost of your stay as the nearest bus stop is almost as far away from the hotel as the airport itself and requires a similar walk along dangerous roads for pedestrians.
To be fair, all of this was fine. I would have liked to know beforehand, though.
Of all the budget chains I think Ibis is, generally, my favourite.
SShazGreat location- right in the heart of city center as well as next to the mailbox with lots of restaurants nearby. Staff are very friendly and the bar serves late too.
PPengguna TetamuThe location is excellent! Right next to the train station and just on the edge of China Town with tons of bars and club a short walk away. Its just next to the bull ring and a huge city centre for great shopping and food. The building is old with lots of history, character and a bar. Don't expect the same as a brand new hotel with perfect rooms that all look the same. The rooms are a bit higglety pigglety which, for us adds charm. The staff is very nice. Reception is directly in front of the entrance so there is always a careful eye on who is coming and going. The elevator was broken when we were there but I don't think it requires a key card but again it's just in front of the reception deck so they have a clear eye on who gets on the elevator.
The room was comfortable, ours was in the back so it was a little dark and the lighting wasn't very bright but I peeked into other rooms and they were nice & sunny. The room was serviced and the coffee & tea was refreshed.
Overall the stay was nice, the price was great especially for the super convenient location.
We would definitely stay there again
JJayDizzleA fantastic location for a short stay. Really good facilities and spotlessly clean. Honestly it was quite hard to fault, although the staff did seem somewhat overworked.
PPengguna TetamuHotel is not in a bad location for trips out…
But the hotel needs a lot of improvements! The breakfast buffet you are left waiting for them to replenish food items , you have to keep asking staff where are the cups for tea as none replaced there was queues because of the location of the toaster, be careful if you ask for water to be replaced in room as I was charged but then got a refund after complaining..the executive room was good but I know the standard rooms are not great. The staff were good but there needs better organisation. The pool area dated and no set time they seem to pick and choose open close times. We had quite a few issues not all mentioned here which we told reception about we was not happy and noticed other customers complaining.. we would not stay again and certainly not 4 star 3 at most .. can’t comment on spa treatments as did not use but looking at the spa I’m sure there are better ones around. Golf course 9 hole in good condition but outside hotel area need tidying up bit scruffy.
