Meininger Hotels Bruxelles City Center

Don’t go out at night, my friend got their chain snatched. And the guard at the hotel doesn’t seem to bother making people feel safe. The service was terrible and got told that they wouldn’t be able to help with the malfunctioning faucet. And don’t even get me started on the air-conditioner.

I was at this hotel with my friends. At around 12:30 on the first night I was there I was in one of my friends rooms having a chat, when suddenly a huge security guard comes in and grabs me and my friend from the top bunk of the bed in my other friends room and we clattered to the ground. He sent us back to our rooms and we woke up with many bruises and cuts from the fall. Very violent security guard and very rude staff wouldn’t listen to us.

I booked a shared room and was told it would only be other women however it was not. The people at reception were nice but massively disappointed that there are no shared rooms for women only making it a bit difficult to feel safe. Other than that the room its self is clean and comfortable. The location is a bit of a trek from the main attractions but there is plenty of transportation around.

Nice and clean, good soundproofing and really lovely staff - they all seem to be happy wotking there - even the cleaners. I felt comfortable and looked after. Coffee was amazing. Guest kitchen extremely handy for saving money on food. Very close to the station which was a blessing with such heavy luggage. Only one thing - a toaster in the kitchen would have been helpful!

Fairly modern facilities. Very clean. My towel was replaced daily. Staff were polite enough and drinks at the bar were cheap. However, no privacy curtains in dorms in 2024 is a big disappointment. hopefully, enough people mention this in reviews to make management act.

Not a good hotel stay in Brussels, a city I have been to many times. The bathroom shower drain did not drain properly, and the bathroom flooded when taking a shower for 4 of the 5 mornings I stayed at the hotel, so much so that some water leaked outside the bathroom and into the room. Every time I reported that to the staff, they simply said sorry, we will go fix it, but only on one morning did the bathroom not completely flood because they cannot fix the drain. Then they would have to go clean the mess again and provide all new towels. I have photos from every morning. Honestly, does it take a rocket scientist to fix a clogged shower drain? Also, they removed the handle from the only window so the window cannot be opened. That made the room a steamy mess for hours after a shower. I cannot imagine how bad it would be in the summer when hot out. My stay was in late April/early May, and it wasn’t hot. I also wonder if Meininger intentionally removing handles from windows so they cannot be opened might be some kind of fire code violation. I am considering contacting the Brussels fire authorities to ask about that. Meininger also claims there is “adequate ventilation” being pumped into the room that the windows do not need to be opened. This is completely false in my opinion. This amount of air being pumped into the room would be the equivalent of a ten speed fan being set to the lowest level possible, speed one of ten. There was barely any airflow at all. The only positives were a decent breakfast at not too bad a price, and at least they have some good Belgian Trappist beers (Orval, Chimay, Rochefort…) and other local beers, such as from Brasserie De la Senne, in their bar.
