Great accommodation with fantastic facilities.
They do not provide towels.
The kitchen doesn't have utensils, pans, pots, etc.
You need to bring your own.
We were recommended to stay, by friends, and we were not disappointed. Very clean, tidy, cosy unit for an overnight stay on our way to Christchurch. Friendly hosts, Shirley and Morgan, and our unit 12, Studio unit had everything we needed. Quiet from highway noise. You do hear the 2 trains but we love hearing them. Loved the fact that we could go out the gate at the end of the property and walk onto the beautiful, pounding surf beach. Sunrise the next morning, with snow on the mountains, was stunning. We will be back.
We stayed at Kaikura Top Ten Holiday Park before, it’s a no brainer to choose this place again and our experience has been totally great. The ground is clean and well kept. Great public facilities. Our two-bedroom motel superior room was comfortable. Despite it was full, the place still felt peaceful. Loved the experience. Definitely will return.

My favourite hotel in NZ (both islands included). It combines the cleanliness and modernity that is usually characteristic of a fancy 5 star hotel, but in the cosy space of a family owned business with the level of concern and detail that can only be attributed to those of us who work hard and build a business on one’s own reputation. Every single day my room was serviced and immaculately cleaned, and the staff went out of their way to make our stay more pleasant and comfortable. It’s only walking distance from the main ***** of shops and cafés, and the beachside walk is worth it just to catch a glimpse of the occasional seal or dolphin. Jen and Warren have poured their hearts into this hotel, creating a space most welcoming and warm, emanating creativity and good style. I won’t stay anywhere else.
Had an excellent stay at Fairways, Kaikoura. The 1 bed apartment was cosy, comfortable and absolutely loved using the laundry and spacious cooking facilities. And there was a spa bath to enjoy after a long day. It's a short drive to Kaikoura town and popped in a few times easily for tours and beach walks. A wonderful stay!
Like all Bella Vista motels, you know what you will get, even more arriving. However, a warm friendly welcome helps enormously. I stayed here twice over the last couple of weeks and have been very happy with the motel on both occasions. The owners are very friendly and helpful and ensure the room has been prepared to a very high standard. As you would expect, the rooms are comfortable and quiet, ensuring a good nights sleep.
Ideal location if you're arriving by bus and don't have a car, about a 9-10 minute walk on the flat from the Intercity bus stop, and a shorter distance back to the beach. All the units have a view of the mountains, and at the end of the complex is some farmland with the most incredible sunset views. I was given unit 5 which was one of 2 fully accessible units on the ground floor (I didn't specifically request it) including a proper wet area shower and it would be ideal for anyone with mobility problems. A very comfy bed, and nice to have some softer (and not so massively high) pillows that seem to be the norm everywhere now. Very tidy, heat pump worked well overnight, and the only noise was some people in the neighbouring unit arriving back. Certainly didn't need earplugs. The hosts were wonderful, very welcoming and very helpful with local information (many thanks for the tips about where to get good photos!)
A lovely friendly welcome greeted us after a long drive from Christchurch. Situated just off the main highway, it is easy to find. The suites are a good size, very quiet, well equipped, good shower, and each has an outdoor space over looking a central courtyard. There is a supermarket and a pub serving good food within walking distance. The small charming town is a 2 minute drive away. This is not a beach resort but great for dolphin whale & seal watching. Thoroughly recommend.
We loved our stay in Apt. 8 which is close to the front, on the top floor with a lovely view. Two bedrooms, bathrooms and open plan kitchen, dining and living space with a lovely balcony, complete with table and chairs. We had everything we needed, fully equipped kitchen, ironing board, iron, air conditioning in the main living space, heated towel rails in both bathrooms (plus heaters) and a washing machine with separate dryer. There’s Alexas in all rooms, TV, sound system etc. The location is superb, parking is below the apartments in allocated spaces and there was a really useful information folder in the apartment. This was a lovely chance for us to catch up on our laundry, enjoy some home cooked food and explore the fantastic area. I’d definitely book to stay here again if we are ever fortunate enough to return!

Fantastic apartment and phenomenal views. We were in an upstairs 2 bedroom so we had all the views. The apartment was really spacious, clean and well appointed. I hate being stuck in a studio room so having the space to spread out was wonderful. We came in on a misty day so didn’t really appreciate the views that Kaikoura has but we woke to a crystal clear morning and, wowsers, there are snow capped mountains to the left and a wild surf beach to the right. Having Sky was great too - got to watch the All Black (lose) and lots of Olympics. Shower pressure was the best and the bed was super comfy. Double glazing means you don’t really hear the road noise - it is quite a busy road. We walked into town the first night and walked about 50 metres down the road, to Hiku, the second night. Kaikoura is a very cool town where we had some blasts from the past - totally dreamy fish and chips, crayfish at the side of the road and a chocolate dipped ice cream. No fast food in this town which is what made us want to visit in the first place. Everybody’s really friendly too - the locals really make you feel, welcome.
PPengguna TetamuNew modern hotel with a mainly neutral colour scheme. Reasonable amount of parking on site, or plenty along the Esplanade. Rooms average size. We went as a group so we had no choice, many of us ended up in rooms with twin beds, they are very comfortable but when you share your bed with your spouse, this wasn't expected nor enjoyed. No electric blankets. It's the middle of winter. I did phone reception 3 times over a couple of issues but the calls were never answered. The rooms heat pump is good, though no heating in the corridor and reception is rather cool too. Tea and coffee making facilities and a small fridge. Glasses, but no wine glasses in the rooms. Good sized bathroom and good shower. They only provide one hard club chair, seating for anyone else there's a round squab or the bed. Most of the signs are in Maori, only one in our large group could understand a few words. The large group of Asians also staying had no idea of what anything meant. Excellent staff. Helpful and friendly. Uniforms a little casual for this level of hotel. Catering for large groups can often be a challenge, the food offered suited all tastes and was very good. Good cocktail menu. I don't drink much, but really enjoy an Aussie Shiraz, but they only stock NZ wines. Just meant I drank water. The hotel is sited down the south end of the Esplanade, so a bit of a walk to the township. Good, modern, clean, quiet 4.5 star hotel.
PPengguna TetamuOnly had one night here recently but wish we could have stayed longer. Excellent and easy check in, well organised and fantastic host in Jen. Met us on arrival, explained everything thoroughly and made some excellent recommendations for things to do and see in Kaikoura. Unit was extremely clean and comfortable and had little 'treats' that you don't normally find in similar accommodation places. Breakfast in the morning was excellent including Jens homemade bread. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, highly recommended and I thought excellent value for money. Would love to revisit for longer next time.
JjulietquiltsWe chose this motel because we were in a ute towing a furniture trailer and it looked to have good parking. This was certainly the case, and the owners went out of their way to make sure we had good parking. We were en route from Taupo to Queenstown and stayed two single nights on the way down and back. The units (12 and 15) had everything we needed for one night, they were clean and tidy, the beds were comfortable, the heat pump was very welcome and the kitchen had all that we needed (I liked the fact there was a coffee plunger although I didn't use it). Downside - no flannels in the bathroom on the first night (unit 12) and the units looked tired and dated, especially unit 15. A lick of paint would do wonders. WiFi was not very good but the weather was poor, especially on the second visit and I think the atmospherics were not helping.
Having travelled for a few weeks it was the bath that lured us to this motel. We had a room at the front so the roar of lorries down the hill for most of the night wasn’t great. The Wi-Fi was patchy, I couldn’t log on at all, my husband could if he stood next to the window. The advise from reception was to ‘buy an android phone’, not particularly helpful. There is a lot of do and don’t, and a threatening note saying you’ll be charged an extra night if the room has a ‘odour’ and they can’t let it out, rather ambiguous. It was nice to have a bath but I wouldn't recommend as a relaxing place to stay, glad it was only one night.
PPengguna TetamuWe were returning to our base in North Island after spending a fortnight or so touring South Island, and staged overnight in Kaikoura on our way up to Picton. Most of our journey had been in glorious sunshine, but as we reach this famous whale watching resort, we started to feel the tail-end of Cyclone Gabriella which had already devastated many parts of the North. Thus, as we drove around the Esplanade trying to find the motel, our efforts were complicated by heavy rains and surging seas spilling over onto the road. The Beach Motel is not well sign-posted, and is dominated by another property next door, but we found it eventually. Our allocated chalet-style room was bright, spacious and clean with two bedrooms to accommodate a small family. It was also convenient for the one or two restaurants nearer the town centre. Good value and recommended.
FFlyer12074588388Being on a road trip for 6 weeks in New Zealand, after a day’s drive, we arrived for a 2 night stay, ready to settle in and relax. Unfortunately, there was an error with our reservation - we booked 2 nights, but they had us for only 1 night and it was the busy Easter weekend. Our reservation was made 11 mos before and they immediately acknowledged their error and upgraded us to the only room left, a beachfront apartment! They were kind, courteous and definitely owned up to their error. The room was great, clean, wonderful location and best of all, a very comfortable bed and amazing recliners to sit and watch the ocean from our patio doors! Would highly recommend and was grateful for the wonderful service.
PPengguna TetamuI stayed at Dusky for work throughout the winter of 2021 up until the recent spring. Russell the manager was absolutely incredible.Proper legend. He went out of his way to help me, no request was ever too much and always made sure my time staying was to the utmost standard. All with a smile on his face. I work remotely and sometimes this spans time-zones, giving me strange hours. Russell was always so courteous to this fact and always made sure everything was ok with my work/life/staying schedule. The team he's put together are great; always friendly, happy to help and just to talk to in passing. All this with the uncertainty amid a pandemic. I cannot thank Russell enough. Kitchen is spacious, very clean and always had a great atmosphere with the other guests passing through, so all of the above with absolutely great value, there is no shadow of a doubt that I will be returning to stay; business or leisure.
