Bahia Calma Beach

The apartment was clean and comfortable, and the complex itself was well kept. However, we had booked the deluxe sea-view apartment which I expected to have a decent terrace or balcony. We were at the back of the complex, our bedroom overlooked the hotel car-park, so the sea-view was very much in the distance from the terrace only. The terrace was at the top of the stairs to the door of the apartment, it would be classed as a landing at home, as it was as wide as the stairs up to the apartment, then a tiny section next to the top of the stairs, it was ridiculously small. Although sun-beds were provided you would have to put the table and chairs (also provided) in the apartment to use them, so the sunbeds sat up against the wall unused all week. Due to the location we didn't really get any sun at the apartment, so we literally sat on the "terrace" when we came back on a night for a quick night-cap. Fortunately, the location is very close to the beach so within 10 minutes we were on Costa Calma Beach. This is our 2nd visit to Fuerteventura this year, and we were in Costa Calma a few years ago so we knew we wanted to be near the beach and just have a relaxing week on the beach, which is what we got. Whilst Costa Calma is quiet, there are 2 nightclubs and a couple of bars with live music (Surf Bar and Pirates) and they were very loud and could be heard inside our room until the early hours. I wanted a cheap and cheerful week which is what we got, but I would look at other self-catering closer to the sea-front next time, as this didn't quite make the mark.

We stayed in apartment 65 and it was amazing. The terrace and balcony was huge with beautiful views across to the beach which was 5 mins away. The location is good with shops restaurants and supermarkets close by. Apartment is spotless with everything you need. Nice swimming pool but cold. Also there is a pool bar and restaurant attached. Would definitely go back.

Amazing! So accommodating, staff are super nice & speak good english. They were so helpful to sort a taxi for us to the airport. Beach is very close & it's in a street with lots of shops & restaurants right by it. Only downside is that there was no air con in the room & that the shower drainage isn't very good which meant taking a shower was rushed as we didn't want the bathroom to flood! Apart from this we had a very good experience & would recommend!

Awful. Terrible rooms. Tiny. Nowhere near big enough for a family of four. Kitchen is tiny, nowhere to eat, outside is dirty, bizarrely the toilet is practically in the living room/kitchen room. It’s a disgusting set up. It would never be allowed in UK. If you’ve just been to the toilet… well you can imagine….

We went and stayed at Bahia Calma Beach from the end of August to beginning September 2023 for 7 nights. On arrival reception staff were friendly and helpful. We booked a double room though I think we ended up with a balcony as a pleasant surprise. On arrival the room was clean and tidy. We had self catering accommodation. There was a hob, microwave, kettle, standard utensils, fridge with small internal freezer section. There was a net-door which allowed a cool breeze to come through and block any flies etc. We had no flies and no cockroaches at all. Indeed elsewhere in Costa Calma we did not have any issues with flies or cockroaches etc The swimming pool was literally a 5 minute walk away. There was a large spa shop (groceries) which was open till 10:00 p.m. each day which was also a five minute walk away. It has everything you need. There is also a 2nd spa shop, 5 minutes walk away from reception the other way (though that one closes earlier/at different times). There were plenty of restaurants within 5 minutes' walk. Although a lot of the cuisine is based towards seafood and meat diets, there were vegetarian options and you won't have any issues if vegetarian. Though please note if you are vegetarian most of the packaging in shops does not include v for vegetarian or any other dietary needs, unlike in the UK. A 10 minute walk away is the beach which is absolutely stunning. It is a very long beach, yellow sand (unlike the black sand of beaches on other Canary Islands). Whenever we went to the beach there was hardly anyone there. There are free seats for you to relax on the beach which is a really nice touch and makes a change to be somewhere that doesn't charge you for simple services like this. There is a beach hut " Beach Bar Aureola" (not linked to the hotel) that also serves light lunches, beers etc during the day. There is also another grill/meal /restaurant/ bistro "Restaurante Costa Beach" just along from the beach hut (also not linked to hotel). This restaurant is very classy and literally seaside beach views, as you right in front of the sea Other restaurants we liked were:- "Restaurant Mamma Mia", "B-side Cafe" (which does a lovely vegetarian burger). Plenty of souvenir shops nearby. The weather was extremely hot every day we were there, so plenty of opportunities to get a tan and enjoy the pool. There was also a continuous breeze which made outdoor strolls relaxing and very pleasant despite the heat. All staff, for all of the venues, including the accommodation, were very friendly. The cleaners were also very friendly and did a good job. Costa Calma is a popular destination for different nationalities including a lot of people from Germany. There were also Dutch, French and English people and a lot of the menus had English translations and all the staff we encountered, including in the shops, spoke good English (which puts us English to shame with regards to our ability to speak different languages). I booked self catering BAHIA CALMA through love holidays.com. The price for x2 for 10 nights came to around £1500 with baggage allowance of 20kg per person. The hotel transfer (MTS) from the airport to the resort took around 3 hours due to many stop offs. In comparison the return journey from hotel to airport was much quicker ( around1 hour 30 mins. ) We have stayed in Costa Calma before ( all inclusive) but not at this accomadation. On arrival reception staff were helpful and quick in getting us a room key. Please note that there are a few different types of accomadation. STUDIO, BUNGALOWS and bigger apartments. In the photos on LOVEHOLUDAYS.com they show BUNGALOWS next to the swimming pool, as this is the image shown on the website . I was expecting a bungalow, but myself and husband got allocated a STUDIO instead. The studio was clean, well presented and compact. The only thing I would say is that we felt the location of our studio could be a security risk as the steps leading up to our studio led into a main road. We hired a safe at €20 for the ten days. Which was no bother. I did enquire regarding the difference in accomadation and price points but didn’t get a clear answer, which is understandable as the tour operators have to make profit somewhere. The breakdown of our studio came to around €75 per night on working it out. I asked to have a look at a bungalow ( number 4) not by the pool. Here are thWee differences. The bungalow 1 bed, pull out sofa ( sleeps 4) has a lot more space and has a separate kitchen area. Whereas in the studio the bed and kitchen along with a sofa is in the same space. This wasn’t so much an issue for us, BUT if you are travelling with kids would be. The second difference is the cooking facilities. The studio does have an oven a job and microwave. The studio dosnt have an ovan but does have the rest. Both had a fridge with a small freezer compartment. We also brought a polar icebox which cost €5 euros from the shop and brought ice daily food and drink to the beach. This was our best purchase as cans of pop were pennies ( 0.50 € each) and the ice in the shop cost €1.65 . Sandwiches could also be purchased. This kept everything cool on really hot days. The third difference and most important thing we missed being in a studio was the outside space attatched to the bungalow and the privacy of your space with own sun loungers and sun shaders. In the first floor studio although nice this didn’t offer the same holiday experience on the evening of sitting and eating a meal outside ect…. The bungalows were obviously by the pool. I did check the hotels website and a choice of bungalows ranged from € 91 per night ( during the same time early July 2024.) not sure if this included the pool area. We would invest in these next time. The pool opening times were 11.00-19.00, strict and although we only had an issue on two of the 10 days getting a bed at the pool, due to a very large party. The pool was spotless and
