After many years of delayed construction we stayed at the Ritz Carlton this past Sunday night. I grabbed a rate of $491 through the Marriott website which is comparable or a bit cheaper than other 5* hotels at the other end of town. The hotel is situated at the western end of the city near the main railway station which isn't the best location in Melb for a luxury hotel. However when pulling into the entrance to have the car valet parked ($75) it's another world. The guys at the entrance were friendly and very helpful. We were escorted to the lifts and whisked up to Level 80 for check in. We were given lots of information about the hotel and facilities and the man checking us in was pleasant and tole us that we were as close to the top on Level 77. The room is spacious with a separate toilet, luggage compartment and big bathroom with bath and a large desk. The views were incredible looking across the city to the east and the bay. Unfortunately our room was a couple of levels above the neighbouring tall building so I could hear the air con all night. As typical of luxury hotels the bed had too soft pillows for my liking and we should've asked for firmer pillows, I don't know why hotels continue to provide such soft pillows. I went to Level 64 for a swim in the shallow pool which was great with incredible views. We met friends and family for drinks in the lounge where the service was prompt and friendly but the drinks are very expensive which is to be expected of a luxury hotel. On the Sunday night near midnight there was a 3.8 richter earthquake in Melbourne but I didn't feel it but my wife said the building moved slightly and I did notice the clock had moved slightly. Breakfast on the long table is fantastic and we thought the breakfast was reasonably priced a la carte only with good selection available. I would stay here again given the right rate but keep in mind the hotel is a tram ride into the shopping and most of the restaurants are up the other end of the city.

I generally write a review well after leaving so as to gauge the entire experience. I’ve been here 2 hours & I’m ready . I’ve stayed here many time due to the great location, close to great public transport, a walk to the shopping streets, huge rooms and the quiet that only comes from old solid buildings . The rooms are extremely comfortable with great kitchens in small but well thought out studio rooms . I once lost a bag of expensive jewellery here . The staff went to huge trouble to find & return it to me, so I’m grateful returning customer . Though with so many very good hotels the Grand holds it own on all levels . It’s also not high rises which I love . My visit today was another Grand moment ( excuse the pun ) . We arrived quite late and were greeted by a lovely helpful man who assisted with parking. He then sat me down & we had a brief but pleasant chat with a few much appreciated suggestions give to someone who knows the city well . This gentleman left no doubt that he was waiting on our arrival greeted us by name, with patience & a concern only that our check in would be quick, smooth and all our needs would be met. Having just left hospital ( he didn’t know that ) it was the perfect mix of professional informative welcome & the comfort of arriving home . We were quickly in our extremely cosy room where I soaked in a bath. The products supplied were delicious, just the treat need . I then notice on the table a hand written card & a bag of chocolates- my day way getting better with age . If feeling at home & comfort are important to you look no further than the Grand Grand Hotel . As Denise quoted Oscar Wild on the card “ those whom God loves grow younger “ . I’m expecting to wake you & be 30 !!

Absolutely fabulous! The room we stayed in had two double beds and was so spacious and well appointed. There was a coffee machine, dressing gowns, glasses and other great amenities in the room. The bathroom was also so generous you could swing a cat in there. The shower was piping hot and had great water pressure and the beds were super comfortable. Yes, there is building works happening next door but to be honest, it really didn’t bother us at all or disturb us from our sleep. The location was also perfect for attending the football as you are literally right next to Marvel stadium. The breakfast was also really nice and had all your basic hot foods and fruit. The chef would also cook an egg to your specification. Very happy and will definitely be back again.

I stayed here with my teenage daughter for a quick weekend trip to see Harry Styles concert. Excellent location if you are going to a concert or any event in Marvel Stadium. It took us less than 5 minutes to walk back to the apartment after the concert. It is also less than 15 mins walking distance from the District Dockland (shopping centre and restaurants). Convenient store nearby as well within 5 minutes of walking distance. The apartment is fairly basic. It is neat and clean. The bedroom doesn’t have air conditioning so we have to rely on the air conditioner in the living room. The days we stayed were fairly cool but I still felt a bit too warm in the bedroom despite I have been running the air conditioner the whole day and throughout the night. The bathroom is very small and you won’t find much space to put your things / clean clothes / toiletries etc. We stayed for 2 nights and no housekeeping service to vacuum the room / change the towels etc. The bed / pillows are not too comfortable. Staffs we met during check in were friendly and helpful. The reception only operate during certain hours so we have to leave our keys in a box at the end of our stay when leaving the apartment. The room we stayed looked across the waterfront so the view is nice. It didn’t cost us too much for 2 nights so it is great value.

We stayed here 3 nights in our travel trip. The hotel located in centre of the city. Price of room staying is valueable. Breakfast is good and enough for traveling day.. Nice staffs. We left early morning with great brf take away. One thing we are not really happy is that we had to wait for a 35-40 mins to check in, even we came after 15:00. The hotel requested a deposit per room even we made 2 reservations for all. It took time I think. I traveled more than 40 countries in the world but almost they used one card for one deposit only. We really made questions ourselves about reason why of this matter. But overall we had good time at the hotel.

The location is good, free tram right out front into the City, Woolworths supermarket right across the road, and a few cafes which are open - but only during the week. Weekend is dead at this part of Docklands. The booking, check in and instructions were 10/10 - cannot fault the customer experience. The room was tiny - a tiny apartment but adequate for our needs and the inclusions were good. My gripe and reason for low rating is the bed situation and cleanliness. The ‘king’ bed (two singles pushed together were clearly old and well used. One side had a mattress protector, the other side did not- and the mattress clearly had blood and vomit? Stains on it - visible through the sheet! The pillows did not have pillow protectors and were stained yellow. It was too late at night to rectify so I spent the night on the sofa. Reception were contacted and the bed was remade with a mattress protector - I advised it was unhygienic and needed replacement. They said they would after we check out. I hope they do! In all, some more attention to cleaning wouldn’t go astray! Eg, vacuuming - carpets looked like they had not been vacuumed, the vacuum in the place had no suction. Didn’t know what yo think of the pet protector over the couch - kind of ruined the ‘cute’ decor…. I’d focus more on bed than couch if I was them! Also, on a very windy night the high pitched drag of air/wind noise was very annoying, impeding sleep. A towel at the base of entry door fixed that. Would I stay again…. Because of the mattress - a big no. As for the facilities and location it’s a shame as it’s a good location and staff.
