This hotel deserves a 7 star. From the moment you walk in… every step is a pleasure. Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola is one of best managed hotel I’ve ever experienced. Every single staff member we met was exemplary. From the front desk, room cleaning, Le Bar, Franco’s incredible breakfast buffet…. I’ve been to some fantastic hotels in my life and truly this one stands out. The hotel has an old world historic charm with beautiful gardens and breathtaking views. There are so many nooks and rooms where you can just chill We will definitely come back and highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed.

I have been on a Gran tour by rail in Switzerland staying in various locations, with last stay in the Grande Villa Castagnola.I haven’t been recently in Switzerland ,travelling in other parts of the world and I missed the traditional , classic , grand standing hospitality that I had known before. It was exactly that! Immaculate hospitality, cleaning/housekeeping/ , friendly smiles and greetings. The location and view excellent, terrasse and room balconies with view, gardens well kept ;didn’t use all the facilities as it was a short stay.

The Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola is the best managed hotel I’ve ever experienced. Every single staff member we met was exemplary. From the front desk, room cleaning, Le Bar, Franco’s incredible breakfast buffet…. I’ve been to some fantastic hotels in my life and truly the staff here is the best. We booked three rooms for the week and each was uniquely different and beautiful.

What a magnificent 5* hotel. From walking through the door at check in to walking out at check out, the service was exceptional! The staff are truly thoughtful and attentive in a real caring way, no pretense whatsoever. The room was amazing and we were lucky to get an upgrade. The beds, pillows, everything was comfortable. All amenities were perfect. The spa area and massage was amazing. All meals and food were top notch. A real pleasure and treat and we will definitely return. It happened to be my birthday and I was spoilt with a present (not expected) and extra nice service (which was already perfect to begin with!) Thank you to all.

Disappointing.. a faded, mean old Dame. We visited the hotel about 7 years ago and loved it, that’s why we booked again this year to break up our journey home. What was once a grand, elegant hotel has become tired and over-priced. A ‚basic‘ room rate (peak season) is over 610 CHF p/night. So certainly not cheap, but we were prepared to pay as we enjoyed the hotel and knew (we thought) what we were getting. On our 1st night we ordered 2 cocktails- 40CHF, ok no problem - however when you get less than half a drink for that price - then you feel cheated. Breakfast buffet - very basic, if you wanted fried egg on toast, omelette- you had to pay extra and if you didn’t want to drink a watery fruit juice you could order a freshly squeezed juice at an additional cost of 15CHF - all of which in my opinion should not be extras (having just come from the Adler hotel in Tuscany all of this was a basic breakfast. Room - tired and old, the bathroom is also dated. If you are above average size (whatever that definition means nowadays) you would have to squeeze yourself into the shower over a half-sized bath. The tiny balcony (if you can call it that) offers no privacy- every guest can look upon (and overhear) other guests conversation‘s. We expect to pay over the odds in a hotel such as this - that’s par for the course, when however they try and squeeze every last franc out of you - then that makes me balk. Not relaxing, not enjoyable - the staff were not warm and welcoming, an air of snobbery and eliteness.. If we could have left earlier we would have.

First the pros: This is a stately and serene hotel that is less than a 15 minute walk to downtown. The breakfast is all local ingredients and fresh food. The honey wall was an excellent touch. Views from the balcony incredible. Hotel is impeccably clean. All the staff is approachable and nice. Cons- We paid a fortune for two connecting rooms. We arrived directly from our flight at 10:30. No food service all between breakfast and lunch. They said snack - doesn’t exist. Our room was 45 minutes late. We sat from 10:30 until 3:40 waiting for the room. Those last 45 minutes were brutal having never slept. They gave us two coffees and two other drinks “complimentary”. This was honestly a slap in the face because every five star hotel I have ever stayed in offers prossesco, champagne, coffee while you check in or vouchers for your stay. So I kindly asked them to just apply 60CH discount from our bill my husband wanted the room half off. Each room was 549 CH a night. So minor that I had asked for so little and more of my time was wasted with a 10 passive apology to say no. My husband was furious. We wasted so much of our time in Switzerland debating a solution for the late room and begging for the room we reserved. Lake Club- to access the water you have to walk down cheese grater steps. They need a ladder and also a water trampoline or something to swim to like the other hotels. Pool- colder than the lake. Entry in and out from the outside is an old shower that doesn’t drain. It is filled with dirty water. Honestly is likely a hazard.
