Beautiful hotel in beautiful Matera. We stayed one night at the Palazzo Gattini & should have stayed two nights (lots to experience in Matera/felt we just got a taste). The team was truly lovely and helpful. Our room was exquisite with a terrace overlooking the Sassi. A wonderful hotel within an incredible city.

A very good location if you have no mobility issues! We had a room overlooking the Matera ”canyon”. The room was however just under the terrace of the restaurant so rather loud although I had specifically asked for a quiet room. Breakfast was good but service rather disorganised. To go to breakfast there is no lift so it could be an issue for somebody with mobility issues. Same to get into the hotel: the hotel is not accessible by car. However the hotel will send you somebody to help you with luggage and also had given us good advise as where and how to access the parking lot. We did not like the restaurant: the music was way too loud, the food mediocre and the prices high. On the whole, I would rate this hotel as a mixed experience and too expensive for what it offers.

My Aunt and I stayed here two days in September. We ABSOLUTELY loved it. One of the coolest hotels ever. And I've stayed in a lot of amazing places in this world. Matera is a gem, ancient, different, beautiful. It's best early in the morning or at sunset as the tourists begin to leave. Our room overlooked the historic center, and we woke up to the bells chiming over the valley. We had a gorgeous terrace too! The soaps and shampoos were Ortiga, everything smelled awesome. The breakfast buffet was unbelievable - the best I had in Italy. But mostly the people - everyone who worked there was terrific. The woman at the front desk, was soooo gracious and helped us with everything. She had grown up in the area as well, very friendly and warm. Something so great for a luxury hotel. I would go back in a heart beat!

We had a wonderful time at La Suite. It was a last minute switch from a luxury hotel too far out of town. We were so lucky to have found la Suite. It was a great location just off the pedestrian area, easy to walk anywhere, the Sassi entry points and the many good restaurants in Matera. Particularly handy in the recurrent rain we faced. The staff were very friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants etc. Its a great base in Matera. Only hiccup was a bit slow breakfast on the last day when they didn't have many guests and everyhing had to be pre-ordered and a slight miscommunication on the laundry - it showed up finally. All in all a lovely place.

Stayed here for 2 nights recently with friends, overall enjoyed my stay, but here are the pros and cons Pros - Excellent location in the heart of matera old town - Lovely authentic breakfast - Beautiful rooms set inside a cave, aesthetically very appealing -The hotel spa is stunning with a beautiful Turkish bath, sauna and pool Cons - The rooms although aesthetically appealing could use some practical features. Bathroom space is lacking, only one towel hook which was inconvenient, and I didn’t love the open plan bathroom aka no bathroom door -The bed was so hard, like sleeping on a concrete slab, hurt my back - the window let light inside and there was also light from the 2 electrical card slots which lit up the room at night. - I had a few issues with my room. The fridge didn’t work, the safe had difficulties, I had to get reception to come and try to work it. The first person couldn’t so I second person had to come to finally fix it. - the iron we borrowed from reception was dodgy, we used it anyway and it burnt a ruined a brand new shirt. For a 5 star hotel this is disappointing.

Fra I Sassi was a perfect location in the Sassi. We were close to restaurants, meeting sites for tours and had the most beautiful sunset on our large open patio/ veranda. When the sun went down, the Sassi became illuminated. It is the most beautiful city in Italy. We booked a walking tour which was close. We wanted a nighttime tour and Rosita desk Receptiinist set us up for the tour. She also called a taxi and helped carry my luggage. She recommended a restaurant where locals dined and it was superb. I was worried about my luggage since the Sassi is hilly, but where the taxi leaves you for Fra I Sassi is flat, so Don’t let that discourage you. The breakfast was one of the best we’ve eaten on our trip. Don’t hesitate to book here.

Excellent Hotel with a amazing view and room! The lady in the front desk was excellent w great recommendations for us. Nadi restaurant was YUM! Out stay was perfect and the room was spacious and very unique and comfortable! My stay was amazing! Shower was great! Breakfast was very nice too!

Absolutely perfect experience. From check to check out everything was above expectation. The room was immaculately clean and the property was restored to a historical level I did not expect. The property perfectly aligns with the city of Matera and provided me with a true Matera experience. Included breakfast in the cave restaurant was delightful. Superb staff and amazing views rounded out this flawless experience. Love Sextantio properties. An amazing value.

Il B&B è incantevole. In pieno centro e dentro ai sassi. Abbiamo passato una notte stupenda, all’interno è freschissimo a differenza delle alte temperature esterne. Ben curato, pulitissimo e la proprietaria squisita. Ci ha preparato una colazione super, oltre ai soliti cornetti, frutta e succhi, ci ha fatto trovare pane e pomodoro fatto con i loro prodotti che credo non lo dimenticherò più. Consigliatissimo!!!
