We were unfortunately sent to the hotel by Paola's hotel, as it's a sister hotel but supposedly 5 stars, because they didn't have availability. On pictures, the hotel looked great so we trusted them and booked for our weekend getaway. At arrival, they ask for the money in advance. That, alone, was a red flag but we did of course pay up what is a "5 star hotel" rate of 500 EUR per night on what looked like at a first glance like a boutique 3 star. We were taken to the room by the nice receptionist among dirty bed sheets on the floor and trash bags everywhere (room service time) and were informed that there's a bottle of Prosecco for us in the room.; of course the bottle was thrown in the mini bar that was half closed because of the size of the bottle so not cooling at all, and there was no bucket of ice to go with it like what you would expect from a 5 star. the Mini Bar was empty; we called room service, but of course, they don't have it. so we go to the restaurant; there was just a lifeguard that we had to ask to call a waiter for us and help us getting towels for the pool. The waiter comes, we request the menu, but of course, there was none. not even a QR code for a menu which is what everyone in the hospitality industry is doing post Covid. The waiter recites the 8 items on their menu; the food was not bad; but, really, how hard is it to grill a chicken in Greece. After lunch and pool we went to wash off the day, the shower head is shorter than me and I'm 167 cm. Shower heads are usually located at a standard height of 80” (203 cm), but can be set at a minimum height of 72” (183 cm) if desired so you get my point. After my squatting shower, we managed to nap. It was clear to us by then, that this was an unfinished hotel charging clients the same rate of a 5 star. We are on holiday so ofc we went out that night, and came back late; on vacation you'd like to sleep in but in this hotel you can't because 1- extreme daylight coming in from the light beige curtain laid on the balcony door that doesn't have lampshades. and 2- the construction work happening in the hotel We finally got up, and I called the receptionist to inquire about the gym and the spa, because you know, in a 5 star hotel, you have to have both. The spa, apparently is an external service for an at-home massage service which you can do "either in your room" (the small room that barely fits our carry ons) or at the pool where there is no shade or even a massage area. Fine. where is the gym? the gym, is also external across the hotel, and you have to pay 16 EUR to use it. We decide to go for lunch and I turn the housekeeping button on. but of course, no one comes in. the room is still messy so I had to order some fresh towels and amenities (the ones that dry your hair). Anyways, we wanted to recharge with a nap; 10 mins into it with the commotion that was right outside our room, we smelled smoke.. turns out, the workers fixing the electrical room or doing some work
