My wife and I stayed for one week at Hotel Byakko. It is conveniently placed for public transport and in good walking distance of the shops and Old Town. The staff are all very friendly, polite and efficient and the amenities and breakfast good. Our bed was extremely comfortable and the shower good too. If anything, the hotel undersells itself, by not mentioning some of its amenities, including free afternoon tea, a safe in the room, shower soap etc in the bathroom and so on. We would highly recommend Hotel Byakko and would certainly stay there again if we are back in NIce. Thank you to all the hotel's staff for an enjoyable stay.

Very nice hotel, decor has been completely modernised recently. Walk in shower and lovely bathroom with a bonus small mini kitchen. Staff are very friendly and also willing to assist you in anyway possible. Balcony if you want to use for fresh air or smoking.

I stayed in this hotel last week with my 81 year-old mother. I liked the location of the hotel and the initial impressions was quite favourable. Unfortunately, this is where it ends. Having booked a twin room, we ended up with a double bed. After enquiring wether this could be changed I was promised another room which I looked at but which also had a double bed. I then decided to stay in the original room because the receptionist did not know which rooms were made up as double or twin. She then promised to send someone the following day at a precise time to change the bed. The morning come and went. Nothing happened. I then contacted reception again, which did not know about anything. The day went by and finally in the late afternoon 2 grumpy women turned up, clearly causing them more work, and changed the bedding. The kitchen is modern and has a lot fo good features, but cheap and uncoordinated cutlery, no knives to cut anything decent. The 2 glasses were so small you could almost call it a shoot glass. Just a shame to have a fully functioning kitchen without much equipment to use. The bathroom is small and functional, but the main issue here is the height of the bath tub. How can anyone of a smaller statue even get in??? Not much room to put your toiletries either. Storage seems to be a general problem in the room as well since there is a wardrobe for hanging clothes but not really any storage space for folded clothes in easy reach. The carpet is dirty. There are no reading lights next to the bed and no lights close enough to the table. It was a very dim affair eating your dinner. There was a sign saying you cannot use the balcony for sitting outside or hanging things up. Why even have a balcony I wonder?? What makes me really negative is, that the hotel randomly charged my credit card which is just discovered today. Let´s see when I will get my refund. I am very disappointed with the lack of care and interest of the place.

Me and my partner got only a weekend staying. Staff is really lovely, very helpful with everything. But for me the problem was the room- too small and walls were really thin, we had a loud guests in the next room and we could hear everything, that was a bit annoying as we expected for more privacy. The shower was really good though, but there were no toilet fans in the room, so if you had a shower all the room would be humid or with some smell. The breakfast menu was ok, the fruits salad wasn’t good, all the fruits very bitter, couldn’t eat anything. Jelly options were less then expected, but in general it offers different kind of breads and sweets boulangerie. Location is great!

Overall, this hotel gets all the important things right for a family city/beach break. We stayed here with two children aged 9 and 7 in July '23. The hotel is a short walk from Alsace-Lorraine tram station (situated on the same road). This is a 20 min ride on a modern tram directly from the Airport (see later for tips on this). It is also a 5 minute walk to the beach and 10-15 mins to the centre, making the location perfect for exploring the city and going to the beach every day with little hassle. The staff were very friendly throughout with a particular mention to the Concierge who greeted us at reception and a young lady who took the time to speak to my Spanish wife and bi-lingual children at breakfast each day, giving advice on the city, travel and helping with dietary requirements (e-mail the hotel ahead of the stay for things like oat milk etc). The Hotel itself is very nice with a clean, marble lobby and adjoining Spa (this is the entrance you will see on the main street - the hotel reception entrance is just around the corner but you can enter through both). Breakfast is located on the roof level including a terrace and excellent views of the beautiful surrounding buildings. There is also a small pool and some sun loungers. Our room was a 'deluxe' which included a double bed and a pull-out sofa bed for the kids. I must say, the beds were some of the most comfortable we have stayed in to date which was great. I had read previously that some people complained of bad smells but we never came across this despite it being warm. It's true the room was a little worn but it was clean and it didn't take away from the overall experience (especially given how little time we spent in there each day). The main thing was that it provided a comfortable, quiet and cool space to rest at night along with a good breakfast before more exploring. I had read that the tram ride to the city from the airport would be around Euro 1.50 for a single journey. Lots of people were struggling with the ticket machines at the airport because the only option was a Euro 10 return ticket. I asked at the information point and the lady informed me to travel one stop and get off to buy the ticket (I was assured this was legal). We did exactly that and found we could get a single for each of us for Euro 2.50 (in other words it still came to Euro 10....). Once you have your tickets, you must validate them by holding them against the digital screen in the tram (starts your 75 minute clock). Our highlights included the electric city tourist train to get an overview with commentary (Euro 20 for a family of 4), the market in the old town, walking up the hill for a view of the bay and to see the waterfall, enjoying the public beach (its stones not sand which is great but if you have sensitive feet you might want some beach shoes for getting in/out!) and eating some great food.
