Overall, I felt the hotel was very nicely done with great local touches while still keeping an international atmosphere. I also wanted to point out the great flexibility of the hotel, allowing me to change my meal reservations from 3 dinners at Elements (I was on a package deal) to one at Elements and combining the remaining two meals at Elements to a dinner at Atelier. This allowed me to not have to dine at the same restaurant as well as opening up a slot for me to explore a local restaurant. However, there were two things that I'd like to point out that the hotel can improve upon. The first is the staffing at the club lounge (and in general) is not enough. There were many moments where I was left to wait, to the point where using standard facilities (like the check-in counter, or breakfast at Elements) would have been a more positive experience. Breakfast on 12/21 was where the understaffing really showed, where it took over an hour to complete breakfast; many guests left in the middle of their meal since service was horribly slow. However, the second point us what I would really want the hotel to work on - CoVID countermeasures. Largely, two things I'd like to point out. (1) Temperature screening us inconsistent. I was checked when I first arrived, but never anytime afterwards (or should I say, the thermometer station was unmanned). (2) During my meal at Atelier, my wife and I noticed that the staff (He was Italian, I think his name is Marco?) preparing the dishes (in the open kitchen) prepping a sauce, tasting it with the same spoon which was quickly rinsed it under the faucet and returned into the mixing bowl. I pointed this out to one of the servers (Japanese male, responsible for serving and explaining the dishes). This is where I felt the hotel can improve on - in detail, three things. (i) The Japanese server proceeded to quietly scold the staff in front of me, I felt that was not a great experience both for myself and the staff. (ii) Nothing was cleared. After the scolding (and then the staff responding back that he did not put the spoon back in) none of the utensils were changed and no follow up. I guess there is no trust in what a customer points out. And finally (iii) I felt that this is at the fault of the hotel for not putting in proper operation guidelines.A person putting together a meal will need to taste it, to make sure it's good. If the hotel were to put in operational guidelines to ensure tasting can be done while still making it very obvious that it is hygienic, I would not have to be writing this email. Needless to say, our dinner experience was ruined that night. I actually shared the above comment with IHG Guest Relations (on 25 Dec), which the agent was extremely prompt on getting back to me and assured that I would get a response back from the hotel about it within 48 hours. The best room throughout my trip in Kyushu. Size wise, you have plenty of space to flat open 28” luggage. Bed wise, nice firmness. Cleanliness wise, outstanding. The room has functioning AC so you can always cater the temperature to your preference. They also prepare a pair of pajamas for you to use, so don’t worry about bringing too many clothes. Breakfast is aplenty, with a lot of seafood & vegetarian options. For Muslim travellers, halal restaurant is 1km away, and is accessible on foot, or Uber. They have onsen, and coin operated laundry facility. No complaint at all. Staff are so accommodating and attentive.

Travel with a group of friends to Beppu but only 4 of us decided to stay at Amanek for 2 nights. This was the best decision ever as we were closed to the JR station, eateries, Tokiwa shopping mall, Donki and the beach were within walking distance. Only few staff could speak English. Those who speak Japanese only also try their best to serve the guest. I am impressed by how clean and new the whole hotel is. Best of all, I love the free flow of juices & beverages. You could also do take away in the UCC coffee disposible cup. Love the choice of either western or local breakfast with free flow of side dishes. I am surprised by how big the bedroom is and spacious bathroom. The gym equipment tho basic, are new & in good condition. The onsen is clean & modern & I love the warm rooftop pool with an awesome view! Amanek is thoughtful to provide guest with a basket to hold all your onsen needs. Upon check out, I was overcharged for my 2 days of breakfast. The staff was quick to rectify the problem & refunded me on the spot. Yes, would definitely stay in Amanek again in my next visit to Beppu! Thank you for the awesome stay!

I recently stayed at Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan, and it was a truly remarkable experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff’s warm hospitality made me feel welcomed and relaxed. The ryokan is set in a beautiful, serene location, surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful retreat from daily life. The room was spacious and tastefully decorated in traditional Japanese style, blending modern comforts with authentic charm. The private onsen attached to my room was a highlight, allowing me to unwind in soothing hot springs while taking in the picturesque views. What truly sets Kannawaen apart is the attention to detail and personalized service. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect, making me feel truly cared for throughout my stay. If you’re looking for a luxurious, tranquil getaway with impeccable service and a true Japanese experience, I highly recommend Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan. It’s a place we would love to visit again. My wife booked this hotel for us for our weekend in Beppu. We selected this hotel based on the price, parking, and location. It is within walking distance to the train station and down town area. They have parking here which is a plus. The staff was very friendly, the individual helping us spoke great English which made check in/out easy. They have breakfast here, because of COVID, it was not buffet style, but the trays were nice and the food was great. The rooms were perfect, they were modern, spacious, and had everything we needed, plus the bed was comfortable. Overall, we had a great stay here.

Really enjoyed this unique hotel that has a mix of art, onsen, great views and decent food. The room (419) was not luxurious but was well designed, the balcony overlooked the extraordinary landscape that is Beppu, the greatest feature was the semi open-air onsen bath facilitated by the floor to ceiling windows, connected to the generous deck space. It was fun to walk around the gallery space and admire the interesting architecture, color palettes, and exhibits championing Beppu culture, landscape, flora, fauna etc. Sitting in the Peak restaurant for dinner, I was amused that one of the waitstaff was a robot that ferried food and empty dishes back and forth. Dinner was laid-back, had a window side seat that allowed me to enjoy the city glitter below. My stay here was at a fraction of another Beppu hotel on this trip, in many ways I enjoyed this place more and would not hesitate to come back.

Kamenoi Hotel Beppu is conveniently located near the JR station and main bus terminal, making it easy to travel to various parts of the city, including Beppu's Jigoku, via public transport. The hotel features a hot spring bath, perfect for the adventurous traveller looking to relax after a day of exploration. The rooms are more spacious than the typical Japanese hotel, which is especially beneficial for those travelling with children or large luggage.

I enjoyed a comfortable stay at Hoshino Resorts KAI Beppu. I opted for the corner room, but I don't believe it's worth the extra cost unless they can guarantee a room on the south side of the building. Unfortunately, the one I received was on the north side, facing the neighboring building, offering little in terms of a scenic view. On the bright side, the window facing east provided a splendid view of the ocean. The room itself was impeccably clean and spacious. The staff were friendly and proficient in English. Although the food was above average, the portions were somewhat on the smaller side. Despite this, the overall experience was positive, and I would recommend the hotel for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and the beautiful ocean view.

Excellent service, food, view, room - oh, what could I complain about? Everything felt amazing from the moment I entered the hotel. The hotel had a no-shoe policy, and they maintained it sparkly clean. The outdoor onsen was an infinite-pool onsen that was facing the ocean, which was mesmerizing. The breakfast buffet spread catered to my every-so-picky taste buds, and the restaurant was overlooking the sunrise. Other aspects of my stay that I greatly valued was the good quality of skincare products given and the incredible service. If I had to make one complaint, that would be the slight inconvenience of getting to-and-fro the hotel by bus on public holiday (taxi to the JR station is still affordable - about 850¥). If you drive, it would be amazing.

Staying at Hana Beppu was one of the best hotel experiences I've ever had. The service was warm and friendly, the premises were immaculately clean as everyone has to take their shoes off at the door. What's more, when you check in, they wipe the wheels of your suitcase to ensure the dirt and germs don't get on the floors! We stayed in the traditional room with the tatami mat with futon, which was such a lovely experience. During the day, your sleeping futons are in cabinets in the room. When you leave for dinner, the staff goes into your room to make your futon beds with fresh linens and the pillow of your choosing - yes, they have a pillow stand on the ground floor where you can pick the pillow you like. The bathroom was spacious and clean, with a large shower. The TV allows you to sign into your Netflix or YouTube account so that you can watch movies or other content in your room. I always love when hotels provide this option. The onsen was lovely and spacious. Very relaxing after a long day of sightseeing - it's conveniently open until 1am. Lastly, I want to emphasize how amazing the staff at this hotel is. I wanted to do a tour of the Beppu ”hells” (hot springs), but wasn't able to book a tour using any of the local companies. I spoke to the front desk and they were able to secure a taxi driver (who even spoke a bit of English) who served as our tour guide for 3.5 hours. It was so amazing AND way cheaper than what I would have paid for a group tour! This is a Japan travel tip I highly recommend if you visit Beppu, as the group tours can be so lagging and impersonal (and boring TBH). Overall, I highly recommend this gem of a hotel. I would love to go back and spend more time at this lovely hotel in this amazing town!
