Alma San Diego Downtown, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Nice boutique hotel, affordable, Very clean and the modern design of the facilities made the stay very enjoyable. The pool was a nice place to get some sun and the 5pm wine social was enjoyable and we met a very nice couple to chat with. The location is on 5th street just past Broadway at the end of the Gas lamp district.

Lovely Boutique Hotel. Pros: Location. Walking distance to restaurants/bars and Gaslamp District. Happy Hour with free wine. Room with balcony and view was really nicely decorated, spacious and well though out. Robes, small fridge. Nice pool area too. Cons: No way to connect your phone to watch TV. It didn't bother me, but I for some of yall it would. There are some homeless (assumption) people nearby. Noone bothered me at all. They have free bike rentals and the staff was really friendly and helpful Will definitely stay here again the next time I'm in San Diego.

Stay was great, there was a broken lamp in the room, they fixed it right away. Very friendly and helpful staff! Close to Gaslamp area and the valet worked amazing! The bathroom set up was spacious and the shower had great water pressure! Great place to stay for work!

Great Boutique Hotel in a convenient location. The breakfast and food options will not disappoint. Staff is always very tentative to make sure your stay is wonderful. I even received a text during my stay to make sure my stay was pleasant. I will definitely be back!

a very nice view of downtown San Diego. The stay was short but the employees were amazing and helpful with recovery. Right in the middle of downtown and close to a lot of tourist attractions. The hotel is very modern, cute and clean! Will stay again

Great hotel. Wonderfully appointed. Modern design. Excellent food. Dedicated staff. Can’t wait to return. While we miss the old Palomar’s second floor, the remodel to the Alma is gorgeous. We try to visit “quarter”ly. It’s a very special hotel perfect for a quick staycation to hang in The Gaslamp Quarter!

Nice Hotel in a good Location, quiet room, good gym an good coffee in the morning. We had to go to the Convention Center which was a nice 10 minutes Walk. The free coffee in the Morning and the Wine in the afternoon was nice. The poolarea looked nice but we did. Not have the time to try.

This will be rather lengthy, just want to give my full overview from last weekend. To start, we received free breakfast vouchers due to my boyfriend IHG status, so we dined there all four mornings. The breakfast itself was mediocre, probably wouldn’t have gone back after the first morning if we paid, but it was free, so can’t beat that (price wise at least). The breakfast service was abysmal, every single server seemed new, or just really disorganized, so that’s disappointing for sure as we had to flag someone down for refills, etc. Also the barista was pretty rude two mornings, I had tried to order a vanilla latte, which is on the menu and she curtly said no vanilla, didn’t really offer any other flavors or anything. Her tone was a little off putting. The pool was fun, the actual pool area was fairly small though. The pool bartenders were lively. We got there on a Thursday and told there was trivia that night at 7, we went up and waited, no trivia. We finally asked at 730 and the bartender said it was cancelled. We decided to stay and grab pizza and hang out still, they brought out the wrong pizza so we waited, but it wasn’t too long, and he was apologetic about it. Sunday, we wanted to go to new pool but they were having so pool party, and the music was deafening loud, so we opted out. We could hear the music from the lobby while was just overwhelming. Robert at the front desk was really great and kind. Really appreciated him. We got back to our room at 630pm Sunday and housekeeping was there so we just had to wait for them to leave in the lobby, it just seemed really late to have housekeeping going. We were tired after a long day and wanted to relax. We also noted that housekeeping would leave one of the balcony doors open every time they came in, which just seems odd, at least for us coming from Missouri. They also never refilled the water bottles from the first day. However, our actual room was very cute, and we had a nice view to enjoy our coffee on the balcony. Lastly, the amount of homeless people directly outside the hotel was shocking. At one point two of them were fighting literally right in front of the hotel while we’re waiting for an Uber and the valets were just laughing at them, it was uncomfortable. We didn’t feel overwhelmingly safe in the area, I couldn’t imagine going out at night around there. I wouldn’t want to stay there with children certainly.

We booked the amazing penthouse suite for our anniversary. It is on the top floor with incredible views from every room. Around 1200 ft.² I believe, it is like staying in a first class condo. I had requested champagne for our anniversary. Not only did we get an upgraded champagne, the Kimpton provided chocolate covered strawberries with "happy anniversary" written in chocolate. My wife was thrilled and the Kimpton made me look good. IHG has definitely put their stamp on the Kimpton. We found the service was excellent, everybody was friendly and made us feel welcome. My understanding is that IHG put over $20 million in renovations into the Kimpton a few years ago, and it shows. One thing interesting about this particular hotel is the variety of different suites that are available. We have also stayed in the lovely "Skyline Suite Harbor View" suite. The location is in the heart of downtown San Diego. You have the famous SD "gaslamp district" right outside the hotel. "Little Italy" is a few blocks away. We would definitely stay here again.
