Hodakaso Yamano Hotel Old and well maintained hotel tucked in the mountains. Exudes an old world charm where you forget the hustle and bustle of urban life. Welcoming service upon arrival where the concierge comes running to unload your luggages. The room was basically comfortable with no frills. The attraction of this hotel was in the many pockets of activity to enthuse with. There was a cosy foot bath tucked in one corner on your way to the elevator. The highlight was a lovely all natural outdoor onsen 5 min walk from the hotel - owned by the hotel - opens from 5 am to 11 pm. The only access to the outdoor onsen was to take a 1-min slope lift down the steep slope. They were changing rooms but no bathing facilities at this outdoor onsen. The experience here was truly magical, soaking in the Hotspring, surrounded by natural forest and mountains, while watching the sunset. The onsen bath within the hotel was small and simple. The food served for dinner was acceptable. Breakfast was decent too. On the whole, the experience was quite magical.

Conveniently located a mere a 5-minute walk from Takayama Station and close to many restaurants. I've stayed here twice before and am never disappointed. The hotel features a gorgeous rooftop spa with mountain views plus a heated swimming pool (specifically North tower) plus a couple of dining options. Breakfast is an absolute treat with a selection of traditional Japanese foods plus Western options. Comfortable and clean. Helpful and friendly staff.

Spacious bathroom, perfect for relaxation 6. Room: Spacious, perfect for relaxing and unpacking; ample space to open big luggage, no clutter 7. Surrounded by food stalls, convenience stores, and bus stops for effortless exploration 8. Adjacent to bus station and shopping options 9. Walking distance to halal hida beef, morning market 10. Convenient bus access downstairs to: Gattan go bicycle, Shirawago 11. Fully-equipped big kitchen for self-catering 12. Washing machine cum dryer for laundry convenience 13. FfatcarThroughout the 9-day trip to Nagoya, this is the best hotel I have ever stayed. Pros👍 🇯🇵The hotel is located right next to the Takayama JR station which is very convenient for luggage drop-off. 🇯🇵The interior design and environment is very nice. 🇯🇵 Love the hot springs (also include one for foot!) and the night view on rooftop even though it was raining. 🇯🇵The front desk staff are helpful and friendly. They speak English well. 🇯🇵The room size is bigger than expected, with a small table and two chairs. The room provides a great street view too! Cons👎 🇯🇵um I can’t think of any so far lol (maybe I just stayed for one night)

TTUTripperWonderful guest house, full of interesting artefacts and traditional Japanese trinkets. Traditional stay with modern amenities. Our family of 4 loved our stay here during April 2024. The owners are very welcoming into their home and they go to a lot of effort to make our stay happy and comfortable. A traditional Japanese Breakfast meal is provided. The food is delicious and plentiful. Sleeping is Japanese style on tatami mats and comfortable futon mattresses. The rooms and beds are warm and cosy, even when it is cold outside. The bathrooms are clean and modern, and the hot bath was a very welcome relief from the days of walking. The location is very convenient with a 1 minute walk to the Miyagawa morning markets and other interesting locations. The house is an easy 15 minute walk to Takayama station. Highly recommend. We loved our stay here!

PPengguna Tanpa NamaA wonderful experience. Our stay at this ryokan made us thankful that we decided to kickoff our holiday at Takayama and stay for 4D3N! Everything was impeccable. From the service of their team, the cleanliness of their accommodation (& of your luggage and shoes!) and the breakfast spread served. My first time sleeping on futon beds and it was comfortable. Also especially love that they have both private bath and public onsen, and complimentary use of washing and drying machines (detergent is chargeable but affordable). Not forgetting that the place is also very conveniently located near the train and bus station. Really enjoyed our stay!

PPengguna TetamuThis hotel provided great service and clean accommodations. I love that hotels in Japan provide pajamas and toothbrushes. This hotel had two public baths. It's nice that they have one bath where the water is not as hot. We had the dinner buffet. It included American and chinese offerings. You receive a ticket for one serving of the Hida beef. I thought the food was good. I like that the portions are small, so you can try a lot of things. We also had the breakfast buffet which included Takayama specialty items too. There is a large souvenir shop in the hotel, so you are able to pick up gifts. I thought the prices are comparable to other gift shops. The hotel offers a free shuttle to the train station. It is a 7 minute walk to the train station, so it's not so bad. They only have two shuttles that go to Takayama Jinya (government house) which is across the bridge from Sanmachi Suji. Otherwise it's at least a 20-25 minute walk. I wish they had more shuttles to that area. There is not much to look at on the way from the hotel to Sanmachi. As Takayama becomes more popular with tourists, most of the hotel staff and store owners are able to communicate in English. Overall, I enjoyed my time at the hotel and would stay there again.

CChang Seng JustinThis hotel is centrally located, just next to the Mercure. You leave your shoes in a locker and walk along the common areas barefooted or wearing socks. It's quite a hassle putting on shoes in the reception area to leave the hotel. The drawback of this system is that some guests remove the shoe cabinet keys when they check out. There's a pair of sandals in the room which you wear when you go to the toilet. This is different from other hotels in Japan where you can wear the sandals around the hotel. The onsen area is certainly superior. Photo is the view from my room.

PPengguna TetamuThe hotel is nice. It offers a welcome drink for guests and there us a seating area at the lobby where guests can chitchat there . The breakfast area is a little bit small and sometimes guests need to wait for awhile for getting seats. It is quite close to the Frespo Takayama outlet where there are Uniqlo, a sports store, V Drug pharmacy and Aoki shop. When we returned to the hotel at night, the street was quiet and there were not many street lights.

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed at Hotel Associa Takayama Resort as part of our tour group. We had a spacious twin room on the 15th floor of the Alps Wing which was the largest room of our tour. The room was very comfortable as were the beds. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The resort is on the outskirts of Takayama but there is a shuttle bus into the centre of the city. There are limited restaurants in the hotel and 2 of them were booked out by the time we arrived. We managed to book into the Japanese restaurant and had a delicious meal there. The breakfast buffet didn't have cereal. There was a laundromat on the ground floor which consisted of a number of combined washing machine/dryers which dispensed their own detergent.

PPengguna Tetamu宿のパンフレットにある言葉、「はるか、遠い昔にであったような」。そんな時間が流れているお宿です。「鄙の湯」の鄙は鄙びたのひなです。部屋は広く12畳位でベッドやテーブル椅子セットがありました。また広縁と部屋を囲む縁側がありました。またトイレには男性用の立ちトイレもあり、宿に男性用トイレがあるのは珍しいよねと話しました。後から聞くと、この部屋のみ男子用かあるとの事です。冷房を切っても外からいい風が入ってきて、ヒグラシが鳴いているのが聞こえ、風呂上がりには二人とも昼寝してしまいました。温泉はほんのりと硫黄の匂いがしました。内湯が熱湯で、露天風呂がぬる湯で、今の暑い時期、とても快適でした。源泉かけ流しの良い温泉です。お風呂には化粧水などは置いて無いので、お部屋に用意してもらっているアメニティセットをお持ちになった方が良いです。お風呂の近くに休憩処があります。冷たいお茶を飲んでいると網戸越しに外から涼しい風が入ってきて「夕涼みだなぁ。」と以前の夏が懐かしくなりました。今はどこも暑すぎです。夏の高原宿は涼しくていいですね。お休み処では、穂高や槍ヶ岳などのビデオをテレビで流しており、ゆったり冷たい物を飲みながら、見ました。夕食ですが、違う部屋の個室に用意してくれました。ひな盛りは色どり鮮やかでいろんな種類の夏の旬の野菜が沢山の前菜でした。お造りは岩魚と地元サーモン、焼き物は鮎の姿焼き、陶板焼きの一口ステーキは飛騨牛でした。ご飯はそのまま食べるわっぱ飯とユニークでした。地酒は地酒一合が660円で、お料理に良く合いました。朝食も個室にていたたんきました。フグの一夜干しやお豆腐が美味しく、焼いた朴葉みそでご飯をおかわりしてしまいました。食後はフロントエリアのラウンジで、コーヒーをいただきました。コーヒーカップはカップウォーマーに入っており、熱々のコーヒーが好きな私には、気遣いを感じました。特に冬などはせっかくのコーヒーサービスもカップが冷たくなっててコーヒーもぬるくなってしまうからです。ラウンジでは、心地良いクラッシック音楽がかかっていてリラックスしました。精算時がキャッシュオンリーな事だけか、キャッシュレス派なので、残念な点です。もの静かな女将とご主人様が宿のコンセプトをしっかり持っておられると感じられました。14時イン11時アウトでいい温泉に4回も入り、本当にくつろげた滞在となりました。

DDuboisTristanThis place was absolute amazing! By far our favorite place from our whole trip. The location was absolutely perfect for the Takyama festival. We were literally right there with shops and street vendors 50 yards away and the parades would have been right there as well if they weren't canceled due to rain. The rooms were humble and traditional and really added to the experience. The tea in the room was exceptionally good and the traditional Japanese breakfast they served was also delicious and fun to eat. We didn't even know they had a legitimate hot spring on site, but they did! They are Japanese style baths so be ready for that, but the water was therapeutic and so relaxing. I cant recommend this place enough and I would absolute make it a point to visit Takyama and stay here again for a few days on our next trip to Japan. They were such great kind hosts. And I cant believe the price, what an great value. Do yourself a favor and stay here. I'm not sure why the other bad reviews are here I read some of them and they sound like entitled stupid American tourists so ignore them and stay here.
