My stay at the Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar was a mixed experience, hence my three-star rating. There were aspects of my stay that were commendable, while others left a lot to be desired. Let’s start with the positives: the rooms were excellent - comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. Additionally, the hotel staff were generally amiable and courteous. These factors helped to create a pleasant atmosphere during our stay. However, there were some aspects of our stay that fell short of expectations. The check-in process was particularly problematic. Despite having booked a rate that included breakfast, we were initially told that this was not the case. We had to go to the extent of providing screenshot proof of our booking details to rectify the issue - a situation that was far from ideal and somewhat tarnished the initial impression of our stay. Furthermore, the laundry service was exorbitantly priced, and the hotel’s unwillingness to find a solution to this issue was disappointing. The pricing policy was based per item and not per kilogram, which resulted in a prohibitively high cost. This was particularly inconvenient for a long-term stay. In conclusion, while the Holiday Inn Ulaanbaatar offers comfortable accommodations and generally friendly service, the issues encountered during check-in and with the laundry service were significant drawbacks. These areas of improvement could significantly enhance the guest experience. As such, my overall rating is three stars.

When we arrived they directed us to a Twin rather than the Superior King we booked. They did not inform us they had switched rooms on us - they just decided to do that. I went downstairs to clarify and they falsely claimed that I hadn't confirmed. I pointed out to them the confirmation letter. They brought us to a King. They stated that the room we booked was under construction. I continued to insist on the Superior King with the fireplace which we booked for our anniversary. They told us that now there were none available. They offered us a free stay the next night but we informed them that today was our anniversary and we had a babysitter for our two young kids only that night. After half an hour I suggested a substantial discount instead. After an hour I said to just give us the standard King and we would resolve these issues the next day. Our anniversary and one night away together was spoiled because at that point it was 10 PM. It was far too late to call down to reception and ask them how to get the TV working, since they didn't give us instruction at the time. The fitted sheet was improperly installed and kept coming off all night. We could never figure out how to turn on the light switches on the bed. We couldn't turn on the AC and the room was so hot we had to open the window. The hot water was sometimes on and sometimes off. The bathtub fixtures were coming off the wall (pictured). There was a huge amount of standing water after taking a shower because it leaks out the side. It's impossible to turn the shower off and the tub on. There were loud people yelling in the hallway until 2 AM. The walls were so thin that we were woken up by talking at 730 AM. This rather defeats the purpose of a hotel as a place to sleep. We were so disgusted we checked out early. After waiting for an hour for the manager who spoke English, we were then informed that there were actually no room with a fireplace, despite it clearly showing up on the website and our booking. The website continues to show this fireplace a few days later. As we were checking out they contacted our Booking agency and falsely claimed that we had cancelled in an attempt to forego a review. The breakfast was decent. The bed was soft and comfortable. The room was clean. After everything they gave us a 10% discount.

The stay was average. Front desk staff speaks good English. I visited in late January. The room was way too warm for my liking so my sleep wasn't too good. The air conditioning doesn't work in winter and lowering down the temperature takes forever. The only way to cool down is to open the window, but with the air quality being very bad - not advisable. I ordered room service from the Irish place upstairs, but the guy there does not speak good English so instead of pumpkin soup I got some meat cream soup. The thing I did not like and which kinda spoiled my morning plans as I had an arranged meeting, was the fact that the breakfast which was supposed to start at 7am, was 30 minutes late. If you tell people it's from 7am, then please stick to it. No other complaints. Oh, maybe just the omnipresent smell of coal in the entire city, thus also in rooms, but I guess it's just me, a visitor not being used to it.

Great location friendly staff and a clean and tidy room. I was always greeted by friendly helpful staff each day The rooms are safe in a relatively quiet location but close to the centre of the City. If you are here on business or pleasure a simple fuss free stay be it business or pleasure. If I have the good fortune to come back I will stay here again and certainly recommend it

I have been staying here a month now, waiting for the flight to my final destination here in Mongolia. Despite few guests the staff is super positive, friendly and helpful. Another excellent feature is the restaurant on the second floor! Extremely delicious, fresh and well-cooked food. If the residents of UB would know about this restaurant, they would come here for sure. Rooms are clean, nothing extraordinary luxury but calm and peaceful.

Christina at check-in was my first experience of Mongolian hospitality. Efficient and clearly helped where she could, to enhance my stay. Rooms are spacious and furnished well. The gym has a funny rule about sneakers. U have to wear your slippers in, and then change to gym shoes?
