Longji Ancient Village, Chengmai, Hainan.

Longji Ancient Village is located in the northern Hainan volcanic rock ancient village belt. The village was founded by Zheng Songgong, who served as a minister and Tongzhi of Leizhou. He crossed the sea to Hainan and visited the Maizhou Mountains. He saw a huge rock shaped like a dragon's head, with a pool on each side, like a dragon's eyes. It looked like a giant dragon was coiled up, so he named it "Longji Village". The village is located on a rocky mountain and has 17 volcanic rock slab roads and 3 natural volcanic magma lanes, running from south to north through the village buildings. There are 173 traditional volcanic rock houses built on the mountain. The buildings are mostly made of wood and stone, with the outer walls and column bases made of volcanic rock, and the partitions made of jackfruit and pine. The ancient wells and the golden, healthy, and delicious Longji tribute rice are one of the features of the village. This tribute rice was offered to the royal family during the Ming and Qing dynasties and is famous for its unique taste and sweetness. The Dingyuanhou Temple and Tongdetang Temple in the village are also important parts of the village culture. These buildings not only show the history of the village, but are also important places for villagers to carry out religious and cultural activities. Longji Village has been listed as the third batch of traditional Chinese villages and a key cultural relic protection unit in Hainan Province due to its long history and unique architectural style.
