Afternoon Tea at Island Kowloon ShangriLa

Island Shangri-La is located in Central, Hong Kong’s business center. It’s part of Pacific Place, a complex with a shopping center, offices and hotels. Island Shangri-La is among the three major hotels in the complex along with JW Marriott and Conrad. It is walking distance to Hong Kong Park and the tram station to visit the Peak for stunning views of Hong Kong. To access other parts of Hong Kong, the hotel is also walking distance to Admiralty metro station. Connected to the lobby of Island Shangri-La is the Lobby Lounge where afternoon tea is served. It’s part of the lobby but feels like a separate room as it’s elevated by a few steps and tucked away to the side. Huge chandeliers with floor to ceiling oil paintings and windows have a similar feel to its sister property in Shanghai. It’s very lively with the lounge being full every day of the week. And there’s live music during tea time provided by violinists and a pianist. Having afternoon tea at Island Shangri-La provides a break from buildings, cars and busyness of a large city especially if you get a seat by the windows. There’s a view of a sort of small garden with an over 100 year old Banyan tree which was kept during the construction of the hotel. A large variety of teas are available at Island Shangri-La from red teas to white teas and also a selection of Dilmah Tea. Dilmah is a popular brand of Ceylon tea. I went with “Lychee with Rose and Almond”, a Dilmah tea part of their t-Series. It’s a delicious black tea blend of fruit, nuts and flowers. The tea leaves for each tea that Island Shangri-La serves is displayed upon entering the Lobby Lounge. With a lively atmosphere and a garden feel having afternoon tea at Island Shangri-La is your place to escape from a busy city life.
