🇰🇷 Trauma of Gyeongbokgung

Gyeongbok Palace is the largest palace of all five grand palaces of Joseon dynasty, and it has also been got the attention from tourists the most. It looks as gorgeous palace, but who would have thought this palace once got terribly traumatized. I think you should know this before visiting as this is one of the palace’s backgrounds. It is about the death of a praised queen of Joseon. In late 1895, Queen Myeongseong, who had been trying to develop the country and to survive from foreign invasion, had been assassinated by Japanese killers in her residence where has been a hall in the Gyeongbok. This hall is Gonnyeonfhap (pic 3-5). The reason why she was assassinated was because she operated the policies against Japan who was trying to colonize Korea. This act of Japan caused all Korean subjects enraged them. This was so sad. Anyway, Korea was finally annexed by Japan in 1910. Gyeongbokgung in Korean means “The Palace of Shining Blessings”, but it really contraries to this traumatic incident occurred in the palace. Gyeongbokgung is the place where you can’t miss out when visiting Seoul as it is beautiful and fine with valuable Joseon architecture.
