The host Lesley is lovely to deal with and really helpful. We had the unrenovated room so very basic and dated but did the job for us, was clean and tidy. The thermal pool here is well worth the visit 36deg and is a large size compared to other places. Very nice. They also have private hot mineral pools

This is our netball club 3rd year staying at sports of kings and kings of peace apartments. This year we had a big group stay this time around and everything was amazing from start to finish. Tristan and the team here are amazing , friendly and easy to deal with they make the whole process so easy. They are so patient even when changes to numbers and rooms change during the year with our booking. This accommodation suits our needs , location and it so peaceful we really do recommend your next stay here. You wont be disappointment with the team. So what you waiting for? Go on book your stay.. The motel units are clean, comfortable, and adequate for a short stay. I had left a telephone message before arrival, and not had any reply, so when we arrived and I introduced myself, the young lady explained to me that the owners do not speak English, and she, herself is only a part time worker who helps them out. HOW in NZ, can this happen? The criteria for living and working in NZ, as a foreigner, is that English is tested prior to working visa's or residency is granted (being an immigrant myself, I know this first hand!). Despite this language barrier, which is more annoying than anything else, our stay was comfortable. The unit could do with a freshen up - coat of paint, new bathroom floors, shower glass cleaned better etc. We chose this motel as it had a hot tub, but the tub annoyingly switches off every supposed 8 - 10 minutes. This seemed more like every 5 minutes and the re-set switch is so far away from the tub, you have to hop out in the COLD to switch it back on! So much for my relaxing time. The motel request to avoid using the hot tub after 10pm is realistic and understandable, and we were happy to comply. I'm sure we will return, possibly. Hope the re-set hot tub switches are moved by then!

Close to all local attractions and shops. On site parking ideal for travelling. Everything you need in the room, comfortable bed and armchairs. Friendly staff. They were in the process of updating the rooms and I know they will be incredible once completed

We were very disappointed in this motel. We had booked a queen studio room and when we arrived were told we had been upgraded to a one bedroom unit. It did have a separate bedroom but it was small and had a SMALL double bed and single bed in it (we had to put our bags on the single bed as space was so limited). The sheets were clean and fresh towels were provided daily. There were thick layers of dust in all of the corners and edges of the room, mould in the shower and the crockery & cutlery provided were filthy. I took some of the crockery back to the office and they washed it but we washed everything we wished to use. The motel is old, tired and dirty.

The location is good. Rooms looks good from a distance. Look closer... Bathrooms are a 2-3 out of 5. Carpet is dark but was dirty when I got in here. When I put my feet on the bed there's stuff that stuck to my feet so I will not go barefoot in here. There was a dark hair on top of the bed. There's no safe in the rooms. They brag about the 'private pool' in the rooms but it's just an older Jacuzzi bathtub. Looking at the yellowed jets, there's no way I would go in it. The welcome gift when we came was an 8 ounce carton of milk and two individual packages of cookies. Look at the photos. The light has bugs in it and is burned out. Look at the two towels/clothes racks. Yuck! The Jacuzzi faucet? No! The walls are really paper thin! I could hear conversations. I needed to rest and there were kids jumping on the beds/ laughing loudly after 10. All afternoon & on both sides of me there were a number of younger adults outside and inside drinking beer and quite loud. When I got back at 9 o'clock, The office was closed and dark and nobody that I could contact about the noise. I was not happy. Very noisy in the bathroom. There's a buzzing and humming noise that goes on and off every couple minutes. Most of the equipment noises are coming through the bathroom window from different machines on the back of the buildings. l also wasn't told this room was on a second story. had to walk upstairs with a bad leg and naturally no other rooms were available on the first floor. There is no solid ”door” to the room. The outside wall is glass windows and a glass sliding door that you get a key to. The sheers are as thin as a pair of nylons. You can see right through them. There's almost no way you can completely close the curtains over the door when you leave, without them being open a little where people can look in. This is certainly not what I would expect from a hotel room when I'm paying this High a price!

When we booked the cheapest motel we could find for the short stay of two nights, we were not prepared for such an interesting experience. The rooms were scrupulously clean. Top marks for that. Towels changed every day. But oh what a strange place. There are two parts to the motel. We were put in what had once been a very expensive 1950's house converted into motel rooms. Up a very steep staircase, into the room, which has been decorated in what can only be described as someone's idea of art deco come 1950's. We had such fun figuring out what parts of the house had been altered to accommodate our space. The bathroom is very adequate and rather quaint. The toilet stall is housed in what would have been the homes original shower, with all the original pipework covered up by pictures. Access to the bathroom from the bedroom - step onto a mat - check under the mat and start laughing, because the pipework for the original toilet is still there. But hey, it was clean, the rooms large and after all, it's only to sleep in.

Oh dear, where do I start? The unit (16) had a strange smell on entry......not the Rotorua pong we all know....but stale and greasy. The kitchen was beyond usable and the fridge was mucky. Stored a few wrapped goods in the larder but wouldn't use glassware, crockery or cutlery. Bathroom also needed better cleaning: base of shower door and windowledges were dirty. There is nothing welcoming in this unit.....no pictures, no clocks, no colour anywhere other than the bedding. Which brings me to the bedroom......there's nowhere to store clothes: in each of the bedrooms there is a cupboard but it has no shelves or rail and could barely be opened due to the position of the bed. Under the bed was in need of a Hoover. The lounge is OK although furniture could do with replacing.....just old and past its best. The whole place is soul-less. Car park is difficult to negotiate. Now there are a few good points: Location - an easy walk into town: the unit has Sky TV: Beds were comfortable and towels good quality. I mentioned my concerns at checkout but received no apology / explanation, just a smile and told that this was the only room available..... Sorry Kowhai Motel.....I am very disappointed. You can do better.

What a Great Motel ( a little dated ) but very clean , the price reflexes that , had everything we needed, the staff were very friendly & accommodating, we had storage for our E Bikes ( which was very important to us ) , the Motel was very close to everything & lots of biking trails , it had a heated swimming pool washing facilities etc , we certainly would return & would Highly Recommend
