Oct 2024: 1 night stay before flight in Zurich. Easy Walk to old town for the main attractions. Easy walk to train station. Luzern(city view) vibes completely different from the mountain towns of Zermatt & Grindelwald.still prefer God's mountain creation to man made buildings.

Note: I'm posting this after first sending it to the Monopol to allow them a chance for a fair response. They did not respond. We stayed in Monopol for 3 nights in late August 2024. The hotel is convenient to the train station. The room was OK until at 11:00 our first night we noticed a water leak dripping down from the ceiling...into my open luggage. Since there was NO PHONE is our room, I had to walk down to the front desk, and found no one there. A sign directed me to call (#61?), but no one answered. Went back up to the room and tried to clean up the mess. Went down to the a 2nd time...still no one there and no one answering the phone. 10 mins later we went down a THIRD time and finally found a clerk and another employee. Their solution was to offer us another room for the night only....we would not be moved into it since it was promised to another guest the next night. We opted to stay in our room so as to not have to move all our things for a just a few hours. The next day the front desk manager (Paul?) told us he fixed the leak. The next night the leak began again, this time by the bathroom door. It soaked the carpet and forced us to jump over the the soggy carpet to get into our bathroom. We informed the front desk, and the manager assured us it would be fixed, and said issues like this happen...”It's an old hotel” he said. He apologized for our inconvenience. There was no attempt to compensate us for the unsatisfactory room beyond an offer to give us a free breakfast the next morning, something we had already paid for. A staffer offered to throw my wet clothes in the dryer, but not to wash them from the funky water that dripped onto them. We got a meek ”We're sorry” when we checked out. We understand that an issue like this can affect any single night in any hotel. However, when the problem goes to a SECOND night, after we were promised it was fixed, then the lack of resolution is unacceptable. Our room was clearly not up to full price standards, and yet the Monopol was willing to charge us that much, and offer only a ”we're sorry” as a management response.

Amazing hotel near Luzerne train station. Many bakery nearby. Hotel staff was friendly and kind, provided toiletries and water. Breakfast was simple but good enough to start the day. Very short walk to the old town area which was great!

Our room was quiet at night even though it was facing road and Mt Pilatus. The hotel has a very good sound proof windows installed. Hotel was near a bus stop and journey to main train station was about 20 mins.

Overall, it was worth paying. Receptionists are kind enough. Nothing special than other hostels which is the good part. There were 4 out of 6 people in the room. The location is about 10 minutes away from the main station so if you have lots of luggage, you should be aware of it. They said they have a hair dryer in the bathroom but it doesn't and it required me to deposit a certain amount of money to get a private one at the reception. They didn't notice that to me when I checked in. So I was extremely confused until I got the idea.

I was really excited to start travelling after 2 years hiatus. I chose Switzerland as I had already made plans for the a 3 weeks trip in May 2020. I had to cancel it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I picked Alpina Hotel in Luzerne due to its great loation and affordability. It is near many eateries and other attractions. I booked 2 rooms; 338 and 339. We get to enjoy the street view and marvelled at the beautiful building opposite our rooms. I noticed that the opposite building was built in 1537 [ need to confirm this ]. The street was generally quiet except in the mornings when rubbish trucks cleared did their cleaning. The room has simple layout and mine has 2 sinks in the living area. The bed and pillows area are comfortable. The bathroom is small but all items worked well. I did not see any staff at Alpina as most of them were based at the nearby sister hotel, The Monopol, which is located about 20m away. Checking in was fast and easy and it was done at Monopol. I was grateful for all the guidance and assistance provided by the receptionist. Alpina hotel is located about 110m away from Luzerne Train Station and it was relatively easy to find. My room ; 339 is bigger than 338. All in all, I had a really great experience staying in this hotel.

Great location, near train station, Old Town and Lake Lucerne. Our room was spacious and well maintained. The bed was comfortable. Front desk was pleasant and helpful. You should book a quiet room since the rooms facing the street can be noisy. My only criticisms were that they did not have a fan available for the room on our first night, which is very strange considering the hotel does not have air conditioning. Also, the the bathtub walls were high making it difficult to use. The bottom of the tub was slippery. It needed either rubber *****s or a mat.

Centrally located in a quiet street in the city centre near the main train station ; stylish renovation of the hotel and functional kitchenette in the room I stayed (can you imagine there is a dish washer in the room ?😂and every day the housekeeper used it for our dirty dishes); laundry room on the first room and cozy cafe on the ground floor; reasonable price considering a Swiss standard; overall, excellent (input the confirmation number from trip.com and your name when you need to do the self check in at the entrance indoors; the door is closed and looks locked but actually you can open it 😂) ; will book it again when coming here in Luzern again ) 👍

The hostel was very cozy and a convenient location. Although it is not actually in Lucerne the bus station is right outside and you get free tickets! The beds were very comfortable and we slept great. However, the check in desk has nobody there from 11 am to 4 pm check in... where were we supposed to put our luggage? Also, the shower wouldn't drain and was very small and gross. If you're a budget traveler, I would still recommend staying here!

Nice hotel, east to get into the city on the bus system, rooms were good, staff very helpful, there are plenty of good restaurants and fast-food places nearby. A little out of the way for the true Lucerne experience, but a very safe and friendly environment,

Wir hatten 2 Nächte gebucht und kamen abends an. Die Seilbahn und die Zahnradbahn enden direkt vor der Rezeption. Zum Abend gab es ein wunderbares 4-Gänge-Menü, das man sich optional zusammen stellen kann. Zur Getränkeauswahl wurden wir ausgezeichnet beraten. Wir wurden platziert und hatten am nächsten Abend einen anderen Tisch. Wir hatten Glück mit dem Wetter und konnten den Sonnenaufgang vom Bett aus genießen. Das Frühstück ist ein Buffet mit allem was das Herz begehrt. Wir bekamen eine Tal- und eine Bergfahrt vom Hotel geschenkt. Den Steinböcken kamen wir auf 5 m nah. Der Sonnenuntergang ist vom höchsten Punkt aus einfach nur spektakulär. Der Aufenthalt auf dem Pilatus ist auch dank des ”Kaiserwetters” und der vielen Fotos ein unvergessliches Erlebnis.

The hotel is very cosy and I felt there really good. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. When I arrived they showed me everything in the hotel and explain me the important thing. I totally recommend for solo travelers. The room and shared bathroom was kept tidy and cleaned. The breakfast was really delicious. The hotel location is also perfect. From the hotel you can walk around and you are everywhere close to the nature. For me it was very pleasant stay. Thank you for everything. And I hope I will come back again :)

We arrived on the 20th of June - a family member also traveling with us booked this for us. The „not so friendly Lady on the reception did. her job - but nothing more than that - no smile no friendly word - she did nothing more than register and hand out the keys - like a robot. We had a room on the 2nd floor - while 30 degree Celsius outside, the hallway in the second floor probably had 35 in the room, I would guess, we had at least around 32 degree. Right away my wife went and organized a radiator (the „robot“ said that these should have been in the rooms already… no they weren‘t. When it cools down at 9:30 we tried to open the window - a sticker said: be careful…children… might be opened completely - no, they‘re not - went down again to the reception - nobody there - „robot“ probably went for inspection. „But when you call 930 we are right there for you!“ Did that right away - nobody picked up the phone - until the occupied tone appeared. Another try from the room‘s phone - same result, another try 5 minutes later same result. We had a though to sleep in the A/C Car but you can’t even use the room for charging your digital equipment - when you leave with the key, power is cut. When you’re leave without the key, no service desk available to let you back in after 9:00pm. We also payed a visit to the nearby restaurant. Not recommended to eat there - they open at 6:00am and when you go there at 8:00pm the salad bar seems to be there since 6:00am - quite some flies around - the other food presented wasn’t worth it - seem to be the “rest from today” menu. The coop super market is good, the playgrounds in the surroundings where pretty entertaining for the kids. Oh, almost forgot: when checking in, you get a 10% off voucher for Burger King in the neighbourhood! Wi-Fi is free at an acceptable transfer rate. Holiday Express: Thanks but NO thanks!

Sehr, sehr gutes Hotel! Das ganze Personal ist super hilfsbereit und freundlich, von den Putzdamen bis zur Rezeption. Wenn man das Frühstück verpasst, legen sie ein Lunch Bag bereit! Das habe ich nirgends in einem anderen Hotel jemals erlebt. Zimmer sind sauber und modern eingerichtet. 24/7 gratis Kaffee und Wasser und eine kleine Snackbar im Frühstückraum. Und als wäre das alles nicht schon genug - der Parkplatz in der Tiefgarage ist ebenfalls kostenlos! 5/5 komme nächstes Jahr wieder :) Vielen Dank.

We gathered our whole family together for a little celebration and went to the Sonne Seehotel in Eich on the Sempachersee. March is not the best time of year to make the best of the surroundings or the lake, but we all enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Not least due to this hotel which turned out to be a perfect venue for a family get together. The rooms are sufficiently spacious with all the modern amenities and a very comfortable bed. Make sure to book a lake view room which affords a lovely view of Lake Sempach, even on a somewhat grey March weekend. We were catered to most attentively throughout our stay. In the lively restaurant, the staff is evidently accustomed to families with young children. A complete menu for just about every taste is provided and the food is excellent. If you are interested is trying local dishes, try the Balchenfilets, a wonderfully tasty fish from the lake. The wine list is surprisingly extensive, including many Swiss, Italian, French and Spanish wines, without being too high end. Again, if you are into trying local wines, as we are, select the Pinot Gris from the Brunner winery in Eichberg just close by. The surprisingly extensive and delicious breakfast buffet should also get a mention. So, in all, we spent a wonderful weekend in the Sonne Seehotel as a whole family, but I could also recommend going there as a couple. Finally, I must give a round of applause to the most attentive and friendly staff in this hotel. My wife and I have stayed in many hotels around the world, but rarely have I encountered such a consistently helpful and friendly staff.

Self-check-in und doch nicht alleine. Super Konzept. Wir haben falsch gebucht und waren zum falschen Tag angekommen. Der Koch war vor Ort und hat uns geholfen. Ansonsten wäre jederzeit jemand per TEL erreichbar. Funktionelle, saubere Zimmer. Abendessen mit Einfacher kleiner Karte, die jedoch für jeden Geschmack, was drauf hat. Gutes, frisches Essen mit schöner Weinauswahl und ausgezeichnetem herzlichem und raschem Service. Frühstück gut.
