What exactly is the Japan Rail Pass and what does it cover?

The Japan Rail Pass is a multi-use discount ticket valid for unlimited travel on almost all JR Group national trains, including local lines, limited express trains, and the Hikari or Sakura Shinkansen tickets. It also covers the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport, select local JR buses, and the JR West Miyajima Ferry.

Understanding the precise coverage is crucial before you arrive. In Tokyo alone, the pass gives you unlimited loops on the famous JR Yamanote Line, connecting major hubs like Shibuya, Harajuku, and Ueno. If you are flying into Narita Airport (NRT), your pass fully covers the Narita Express (N'EX), instantly saving you about ¥3,000 (MYR 75) right out of the gate. For Kansai International Airport (KIX) arrivals, the Haruka Limited Express will whisk you straight to Kyoto Station or Tennoji Station for free.

Additionally, you gain access to the scenic Hida Wide View limited express train traversing the Japanese Alps toward Takayama, and the rapid Marine Liner crossing the Seto Inland Sea to Shikoku. These niche, hyper-scenic routes are where the pass truly shines for the adventurous traveler. Remember, the pass does not cover non-JR private railways, city subways, or the ultra-fast Nozomi and Mizuho Shinkansen classes without purchasing an expensive supplementary ticket. Stick to the fully covered trains, and you will get exactly where you need to go with zero extra out-of-pocket costs.

How much does the Japan Rail Pass cost in 2026?

A standard 7-day nationwide Japan Rail Pass costs ¥50,000 (approx. MYR 1,257) for adults and ¥25,000 (MYR 628) for children. The premium 7-day Green Car (First Class) pass costs ¥70,000 (MYR 1,759), offering larger seats, footrests, and guaranteed luggage space for premium travelers.

Since the nationwide price adjustment, maximizing your pass requires a bit of smart routing. Below is the official 2026 pricing for the nationwide passes, clearly mapped out in both Japanese Yen (JPY) and estimated Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Note that infants under 6 travel for free if they sit on an adult's lap, while children aged 6 to 11 qualify for the 50% discounted child rate.

Is the Japan Rail Pass still worth it for your itinerary?

Yes, the Japan Rail Pass remains highly profitable if your itinerary involves multi-city, long-distance travel across regions. A classic Golden Route expanded to Hiroshima (Tokyo to Kyoto, then Hiroshima, Osaka, and back to Tokyo) typically costs ¥56,000 in individual Shinkansen tickets, making the ¥50,000 7-day pass a brilliant investment.

Let’s break down the real-world math. If your plan is strictly a one-way trip from Tokyo to Osaka, a single Shinkansen ticket costs around ¥14,720 (MYR 370). In that scenario, paying as you go is cheaper. However, savvy travelers know the real value lies in layering day trips and regional leaps.

Imagine basing yourself in Tokyo but taking a day trip to the alpine beauty of Karuizawa on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, followed by a journey down to Kyoto Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen. Throw in a trip on the JR Nara Line to see the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, and a high-speed dash down to Hakata Station in Fukuoka. Your individual ticket costs will quickly exceed ¥65,000 (MYR 1,634).

For a concrete example, a round trip from Tokyo to the ski resorts of Hokkaido via the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen lines would normally cost upwards of ¥46,000 (MYR 1,156) in standard individual fares. By layering just one more regional trip—like a journey from Hakodate to Sapporo—you instantly push your transit costs well past the ¥50,000 pass threshold. The math is simple: long-distance travel rewards pass holders exponentially. By choosing to buy JR Pass online, you immediately save massive amounts of money and completely bypass the hassle of queuing at ticket machines during rush hour.

Maximizing your pass means staying near major JR hubs. Not only does this save you from dragging heavy luggage through crowded subways, but it ensures you can jump on a bullet train the moment you wake up.

Tokyo: The Shinjuku and Shinagawa Hubs

For seamless airport access via the Narita Express, stay right above the action. The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, dropping you right onto the JR Chuo Line. Alternatively, the Shinagawa Prince Hotel sits directly across from Shinagawa Station, meaning you can transition from your hotel bed to your reserved Tokaido Shinkansen seat in under ten minutes.

Beyond being a bit of a walk from the subway, everything else was impeccable. The room was spacious, and the corner glass windows offered great views. The tower building was affordable, unlike the main building which was out of my price range. The garden was expansive, though the cherry blossoms weren't in full bloom yet, so there weren't many flowers. The lower floors are all shopping malls; you can spend a lot of time just wandering around the hotel, from the tower to the main building. It's a great way to pass the time.

Location of the hotel is excellent and is within close proximity to major establishments/shopping areas in the Ginza area. There is a convenient store (”Natural Lawson”) on the ground floor of the building. I booked the Standard Room with Queen Bed as I was worried that the Standard Room with Single Bed would be too cramped. I'm glad I made that decision. At about 20sq.m., the room is spacious and comfortable enough for one person but may be slightly cramped for a couple. Then again, hotel rooms in Japan tend to be small in general. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the amenities were sufficient. The lobby of the hotel is located on the 16/F of the building, and the guestrooms are located from 17/F up, so you get a very nice view of the Ginza area. I didn't try the breakfast on this trip, but I've heard nice things about that. Will definitely try that next time. Recommended.

We enjoy staying in the Imperial Hotel for number of reasons. Convenient location in Ginza, easy to get taxi from the hotel. The hotel staffs are helpful and efficient. The check-in process is smooth and the luggages delivered to our room very quickly. The room is spacious as we are staying in Junior Suite. I love their shower with strong water pressure. Regarding buffet breakfast, they have a great choice of food. Two of the mornings we need to queue to get table for buffet breakfast, but the 3rd morning there was no waiting at all, so it depends which days you visit Japan to avoid the crowd. Overall, I will stay in Imperial again.

When I booked online for the room, I stated very clearly no corner room, but when I discovered my room is nearly at the end, was a bit not happy. The location is 7 mins walk to suidoboshi station. But it's not very near to places like shibuya or Tokyo, a bit disappointed the single room is a bit small, but the milk lotion, liquid cleanser, face wash packet they provided is gd. A bit surprised they don't provide spoon but stirrer. The room is clean, and there is lawson at 2nd floor and laundry service at 7th level. I have taken video of the room but can't attach here, wasted. Near the suidoboshi station are some eateries. They provide one water bottle daily and clean the room daily which is good. If you preferred a clean room, this hotel is apt for u. The hotel provided airport limousine bus to airport but not vice versa

Our family trip to Tokyo was made much easier by this hotel—it was an excellent choice for us. They offer adjoining rooms and sofa beds, which gave us plenty of space and flexibility. The location is another big plus: set within a family-friendly park, it’s just a short walk to Tokyo Tower, great restaurants, and nearby subway stations. One thing to keep in mind: the elevators are split—floors 1–18 and 19–32 are served separately, and access to floors 18–32 requires a key card. So if you’re booking multiple room types, just double-check which floors they’re on to avoid any confusion.

Room and bed were very comfortable, immaculately clean and modern. 2 mins walk from train station, if you need lift access to train then a 6 mins walk, we had a stroller. Breakfast was a bit of a zoo, we went during Christmas, very busy! But tables were spacious so even though there were so many people you don’t feel cramped. Good variety of food selection. We had dinner at the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. Delicious, especially the tuna salad. I found the lobby staff a little lack of personality, at check in, no mentioning of where breakfast will be, what time check out is. Just checked you in and that’s it, no personal notes in the room. When I expressed I’ve lost my phone at the shop in Tokyo, no sign of empathy (it was a western male staff) no gesture of helpfulness, very cold and robotic. This goes for concierge also, he is an older western gentleman, he needs to use Google translate also which is frustrating cause I could do exactly the same research with Google translate. Overall, hardware is solid, need to fine tune the staff, sprinkle a little bit of personality in them.

We traveled to Nagano Prefecture for 2 days from Tokyo and returned to stay at the Conrad again. This time, we switched to a bay view suite. The room was still spacious, and having two bathrooms was very convenient. The view remained impeccable, and the housekeeping staff did a thorough and clean job. We needed packing tape, and they delivered two large rolls, which was a very thoughtful touch ❤️. The documents we needed printed were also handled very well. We have a small suggestion: could the bathtub be replaced with a deeper model? The current one is too shallow, and taller people can't fully enjoy it.

Overall, I'd give it 4 stars, mainly for the location and the night view, though the hotel's facilities are a bit dated. 🚃 Transportation (very convenient) Take the Yurikamome Line to Daiba Station, and it's a 3-5 minute walk to the hotel. You even get sea views along the way. Downstairs, there's an Airport Limousine bus that goes directly to Haneda and Narita airports, which is super convenient when you're traveling with luggage. 📍 Location & Surroundings This deserves high praise – it's right in the heart of Odaiba. You can walk to Fuji TV, Joypolis (Sega Amusements), and the Gundam statue at DiverCity. Aqua City is right downstairs, so dining and shopping are a breeze. It’s perfect for families with kids or young travelers. 🌉 Night View (highly recommended) I booked a room on the Rainbow Bridge side, and the night view of Rainbow Bridge and Tokyo Bay was truly amazing. Just sitting by the window and zoning out made it worth every penny. 🍳 Breakfast (average) The buffet offers a mix of Japanese and Western options, but nothing particularly memorable. The taste was just okay, and I felt it wasn't great value for money. 🏨 Facilities & Room (gripes) The decor is a bit old-fashioned. My biggest complaint is the hairdryer in the room – it's so old and weak; drying long hair was a real struggle. I hope the hotel replaces it soon. Other facilities were acceptable.

I arrived at 11 PM for check-in, and the hotel is conveniently located right off Ginza's main street. The front desk staff was efficient, and communication in simple English was no problem. They even provided toiletries. As it's a new hotel, there's no need for power adapters; USB and Type-C ports are directly available. The room is very spacious, and the bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. I could easily open up my 28-inch suitcase. Breakfast was also good, with plenty of choices.

This was our second stay here, and it's super close to Tsukiji subway station – just turn the corner after exiting via 3a. Getting around is really convenient. The room was clean and tidy, and downstairs they provide daily cleaning supplies, including makeup remover, which was a thoughtful touch! There’s a small supermarket right near the hotel, making it easy to pick up daily essentials. It's only a 15-minute walk straight to Ginza. For Akihabara, it's just 5 stops directly on the Hibiya Line. Perfect for us anime fans!

I was very satisfied with this room type, as it offered a great view of Tokyo Tower. The hotel lobby is beautiful. First of all, location here is amazing. Walking distance to Age3, Cloud Matcha, Tonkatsu, Udon, a super nice ramen shop opposite of the hotel. The food scene at surrounding this hotel is amazing. If you’re not into eating in restaurants, walk a few mins more to Matsuya or Mitsukochi Dept store, go to their B1 B2 and get the food there and head back to hotel to eat. Food will still be warm! Room is small, but the spaces are sufficient to open up luggages, and still move around. I would say the hotel set up the spaces amazingly, where you can put your items near the entrance instead of concentrated on the bed area, which I think it seriously helps a lot when you want to leave certain things that you doesn’t need for a few days there. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for its location, value to price, and also amazing staff services. Thank you!

Located on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station, this hotel, though not large, offers exceptionally warm and attentive service. Every staff member I encountered greeted me proactively. I arrived at 2:15 PM, before check-in time, and stored my luggage. After a quick stroll around the area, I returned to find my bags already neatly placed in my room. When I needed more water, the front desk delivered it to my room in an instant. The room itself was very quiet and well-equipped with all necessary amenities. For such a central location, the value for money is outstanding. The view from the window is excellent; during the day, the train tracks are busy with trains coming and going, while at night, the city lights are spectacular. I even saw a rainbow on the day I checked in – a lovely start to my stay.

The nearest subway stations to go anywhere are a 12min walk away and the nearest konbini is also a 7min walk. The hotel itself has many restaurants and has a nice garden. The room I chose was spacious but the TV is facing the side of the bed rather than the front so watching TV wasn't convenient. Service was good. This was my first time staying at The Peninsula Tokyo, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we began corresponding with the hotel before arrival, the team made it clear that this was going to be a special stay. I had reached out in advance as this was an important trip for our family, and the team – especially Ms. Kim – went above and beyond to help organise everything smoothly. Every detail was handled with care, and it really set the tone for our visit. Throughout our stay, every interaction made us feel genuinely welcome. The lobby team, the staff at Peter, and housekeeping were all consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Small gestures, friendly smiles, and a real willingness to help turned a simple hotel stay into a collection of memories we will cherish for a long time. Though small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway. What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly. A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities. On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression. However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met. In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms. Overall Rating: The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.

I’d wanted to stay at this hotel for a long time and loved the idea of a traditional-style hotel right in the heart of Tokyo. The staff were very friendly, and I was happy to get a room on a higher floor as I had requested. The room itself was very small and felt a bit outdated. The hotel isn't right next to a subway station, but the shuttle bus service is super convenient, running every 15 minutes to and from Meguro Station. It pretty much covers all your transportation needs. It wasn't until after we checked out that we realized they'd upgraded our room type! It was definitely bigger, and we could easily spread out three 28-inch suitcases, which was really handy. The only downside was that the facilities felt a bit old. Even though it had been renovated, there was still an unpleasant smell from the sink drain in the bathroom.

Coming directly from Tokyo Station, you can access the hotel's exclusive elevator via the Marunouchi underground passage, which saves you the hassle of crossing streets above ground. Being on a high floor, the view of Tokyo Station with its busy trains passing by is quite spectacular. The room is small but exquisite, typical of Tokyo style. Breakfast was relatively simple, and at 2500 JPY for a child, it felt a bit overpriced.

[”1. **Unbeatable Location for Airport Travel**\nThe hotel offers direct limousine bus service to both Narita and Haneda Airports right from its doorstep, making airport transfers incredibly convenient – no need to lug heavy suitcases around. It's just a 3-minute walk to Tochomae subway station, with Shinjuku-Nishiguchi (West Exit) only 5-8 minutes away. Takashimaya, Odakyu Department Store, and Don Quijote are all within walking distance, making it super easy to shop for Sylvanian Families, Chanel, and cosmetics. Plus, there's a FamilyMart convenience store on the second floor, perfect for late-night essentials.”,”2. **Spacious Rooms, Especially for Tokyo**\nCompared to most compact Tokyo hotels, the rooms here are remarkably spacious, allowing you to easily open up a 28-inch suitcase. The newly renovated rooms come with multiple USB charging ports and modern amenities. High-floor rooms offer stunning views, perfect for overlooking Shinjuku's city nightscape in the evening. Soundproofing is excellent, completely blocking out street noise. The toiletries are high-quality, and the bathroom features a dry/wet separation design with ample supplies.”,”3. **Attentive Service and Comprehensive Facilities**\nThe front desk accepts Alipay, UnionPay, and WeChat Pay, making it very friendly for Chinese tourists. The 24-hour front desk offers free storage for large luggage, so you can shop for luxury goods without worry. The buffet breakfast offers a rich variety, including Japanese set meals, Western pastries, and fresh fruit. Welcoming service at Front Office / Reception. I feel great to return back. I have stayed in this hotel for so many times and it’s always my top list to stay when i visit Tokyo. It’s my first time to have breakfast in Its Coffee Shop. The egg station is excellent and the chef handles the egg orders one by one with his patience. For the service side, I think the service team need to pay more attention as we stack our plates for a long time and the waiters didn’t “see” them even passed by quite few times. For the hotel room, I feel comfortable and clean.

The space exudes a Japanese Zen aesthetic, with a breathtaking 30-meter high lobby and a stunning dry landscape garden. Even the standard rooms are incredibly spacious, featuring a sunken granite bathtub where you can soak while enjoying panoramic views of the Imperial Palace from above. The 30-meter sky pool and Japanese hot springs are truly a dream. The service is incredibly attentive, almost as if they can read your mind, and breakfast is exquisite and delicious. While the room rates are high, the impeccable sense of ultimate luxury makes it an absolute must-stay experience at least once in a lifetime. Highly recommended!

Hotel service was impeccable, staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and well maintained, especially loved the toilet and showers which were spacious with good water pressure. There’s also a free lounge that served simple drinks and small snacks which was much appreciated. Location is also great, within walking distance of the both the JR and metro stations. Shimbashi station is well connected to various lines that you’d use to hit the common attractions, also close enough to Ginza. Highly recommended and would definitely return again for my next trip to Tokyo

The location is decent, situated in Shinjuku, but it’s not exactly in the heart of the busiest areas. If you’re planning to visit restaurants or shopping spots, be prepared for a bit of a walk daily. The lobby is beautiful, and while the onsen and sauna are small, they are quite effective. The rooms are okay, though not very modern. Breakfast was also just average and not particularly impressive, given the price.

I visited Tokyo with my 88-year-old father. The hotel’s location is arguably the absolute best, making it incredibly convenient to visit Tokyo’s major attractions. The hotel facilities were also highly satisfying. First and foremost, the amenities in the guest room were excellent, and the thoughtful accessibility considerations for the elderly or infirm gave us great peace of mind. For instance, the provision of a bath chair with a backrest was very impressive. The hygiene and meticulous housekeeping were of the highest standard. Furthermore, the non-slip mat provided in the bathroom clearly reflected a deep consideration for the guests' specific needs. All of this, of course, is a testament to the staff’s proactive service and attentive care. If there was one minor disappointment, I wish a wider variety of pillows had been available in the room. In this regard, I felt it fell slightly short of meeting guests' diverse preferences. Additionally, as a helpful suggestion for safety, designing bathroom doors to open outward to facilitate emergency access in case of an accident inside is a fundamental design principle for luxury hotels. While preventing accidents altogether is ideal, being fully prepared for emergencies is what sets the highest standard of excellence. On another note, despite the hotel being located within a major railway station, there was absolutely no noise. The soundproofing was truly remarkable. The breakfast offered a rich and diverse selection, beautifully balancing traditional Japanese cuisine with Western options. While ordering a more unique or specialized beverage took a bit of time, the quality and taste were highly satisfying. The other facilities, particularly the restaurants and cafes, were exceptionally calm, elegant, and quiet, providing a very pleasant experience. The food, of course, tasted excellent. However, you must ensure you have ample time to enjoy it; it can require a significant amount of time and patience before the food is served in front of you. Overall, our experience was exceptionally satisfying and wonderful. With its rich historical background and narrative, the hotel offered a deeply engaging and far from boring stay.

Stayed for four nights and was very satisfied. The front desk staff spoke good English and were friendly. The room wasn't small for Tokyo, and the booth seating was very convenient. They provided various skincare products and mineral water, which were replenished daily. On the 14th floor, there's a tea break area with free cookies and drinks, and also a spa, though the prices are quite expensive compared to back home. The room had a fridge, safe, and iron, and the view was excellent. I heard some rooms even have a view of Tokyo Tower. The breakfast had a wide variety. The only thing I didn't like was having to shower in the bathtub.

If 100 is a perfect score, this hotel has its pros and cons. The convenient location and room size both deserve a 90. The shower water pressure and the service from most of the staff are at least an 80. However, you can clearly hear the subway from the room, and even with the small window handle adjusted up or down, the noise persists. During my two-night stay, one night I couldn't fall asleep until the subway stopped running in the middle of the night. The next morning, I was woken up by the noise around 7 AM. I groggily recorded a video, but my phone's microphone near the bed didn't capture it well. The actual sound is about one to two times louder than what's in the video. The room also didn't provide earplugs, which is quite unbearable – I'm deducting 70 points for this. There were noticeable marks on the room walls and the bathroom floor, so I'm taking off another 50 points. The carpet is old and somewhat damaged, and the room looks dingy. For a room that costs over 1500 per night, this warrants another 60-point deduction. So, this is a hotel with overly distinct pros and cons.

Overall, my experience was okay, but the deposit process was a real hassle, and communication with the front desk was difficult. I tried to pay the deposit online twice, and both times it showed as 'Locked by Shangri-La Tokyo' for JPY 250,000 + JPY 100,000. The hotel responded that their finance team checked and found a system error, so they hadn't received the deposit. Finally, they sent me a new link, and I paid another JPY 100,000, which also showed as 'Locked by Shangri-La Tokyo.' This time, they claimed it was successful. Thank goodness! But even now, the deposit is still being held by the hotel. During my stay, I showed the front desk the emails I had exchanged with their reservations department, but the front desk said they hadn't received them! Even though the reservations system automatically replied to my emails, the front desk still denied receiving them! I also showed them a screenshot of the successful deposit payment, but the front desk said they needed to verify it in their system and wouldn't accept my screenshot. Fine, they said they would confirm the deposit payment in an hour, but we only found out it was received the next day. It was absolutely ridiculous! Unless absolutely necessary, I won't be going to Japan again! And even staying at a Shangri-La wasn't all that great! It was a lot of trouble, and I felt like they intentionally dragged their feet! BTW, all emails with the hotel were in English.

I come to Tokyo several times a year, staying a fortnight or more each time. This time I spent seven nights at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. The room faced Hie Shrine. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows I could see the shrine's copper roof and half of Tokyo's skyline. The décor was modern without excess; the layout flowed easily, Bose speakers hidden in the walls, another set in the bathroom ceiling, connected by a 3.5mm jack. The curtains were motorized, though you hardly needed to close them. The turndown service. I would leave in the evening and return late to find the room changed: only the hallway light and bedside lamp left on, a bottle of water and a glass on the nightstand, two chocolates beside them. The evening tea and teacup, previously stored in the cabinet, had been moved next to the coffee machine. These changes were so slight you had to think back carefully to confirm they had happened at all. The temperature and humidity had been adjusted. As if the room itself remembered your habits. Room service fell short of the ryokan in Hakone or Lake Toya, but well above the ordinary hotel. Each day I made two or three cups of complimentary coffee, played music, read, wrote. In seven days I finished three books. The research ahead began to take shape. There were drawbacks. No washing machine, but a decent laundromat ten minutes' walk away—a chance to wander the streets of Akasaka. The room provided HDMI and ethernet ports but no cables; for those who came to rest, perhaps a mercy. The minibar fridge was mostly occupied by drinks for purchase, same as the Imperial, though there was still room for my sparkling water. The day I left it was half past five and fully dark. I could barely make out the faces of the bellhop and the taxi driver. Together they loaded my luggage into the boot. I wished the bellhop a happy new year in Japanese and told her I liked her hat. She smiled and returned the greeting. As the taxi pulled out of the underground drive, I thought of the inns Kawabata once wrote about: what had to be sought in the mountains of snow country can now be reached by elevator from the B2 exit of a metro station. I have watched the Shinagawa Prince Hotel loosen quietly over time, slip a little. That kind of decline is rarely one great error. It begins the day someone forgets to leave a glass of water, neglects to move a packet of tea, omits a newspaper. As for The Capitol Hotel Tokyu: in Japanese, what I experienced over these seven days is called ちょうどいい.

The room was quite small, basically just a place to sleep. You could open your suitcase, but it made the space feel a bit cramped. The room's amenities weren't very new. The only thing I found really practical was the spacious vanity, which was great for putting things down. However, I wouldn't say it was easy to do makeup, as the whole bathroom was quite basic, lacking a proper vanity light or mirror. Although this hotel came up as one of the top three (I think it was the first) when I searched for Shinjuku area accommodations, the closest subway station is actually Nishi-Shinjuku. It takes about a fifteen-minute walk to get to Shinjuku JR Station. There aren't many convenience stores nearby, as the hotel is located above the metropolitan government building. There were even some homeless people in the vicinity (?). The hotel staff automatically provide service in English, which made communication much smoother than in many other Japanese hotels. The guests were also predominantly Westerners. The most impressive part of the entire hotel was probably the grand lobby. Overall, the service was fine, but next time, I'd probably use a similar budget to stay at a different five-star hotel.

Mandarin Oriental once again gave me an unforgettable day. I've celebrated many birthdays at Mandarin Oriental before, and this time was no exception. The Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, was absolutely perfect. While the facilities are luxurious, they might not be considered top-tier luxury. The main perfection truly lies in the service. Michelle, the beautiful front desk staff from Indonesia, was incredibly thoughtful. On my birthday, the hotel provided several delightful surprises, further solidifying my belief that coming here to celebrate my birthday was the absolute right choice. Looking for delicious food? Mandarin Oriental offers classic French cuisine, the best pizza, and excellent sushi... And if that's not enough, downstairs you'll find the best fruits in Japan, the finest Spanish cuisine, and top-notch Chinese food. Right next to the hotel is the Mitsukoshi Main Store, so choosing a birthday gift was absolutely stress-free. The upgraded room was spacious, the internet was good, the facilities were excellent, the lighting design was well-thought-out, and the hot water in the bathroom was fantastic. Let's start with the positives: The location and facilities are excellent, the room is spacious, and I even had a view of the Imperial Palace from my window. Although it was partially obstructed, considering I booked a basic room, it was more than acceptable. Upon arrival, the staff immediately helped with my luggage and inquired about my name, which was very thoughtful. Turndown service and replenishment of amenities in the evening were prompt. All staff members throughout the hotel were professional and responsive. Now for the negatives: I wouldn't call it discrimination, but it's clear the hotel primarily caters to and prioritizes Western guests (there were many Westerners staying there). They even offer gluten-free bread at breakfast. I was assigned a room on the lowest floor, the 8th floor, and I didn't see any Western guests on my floor. When using the elevators, they were always going to floors 10 and above. Additionally, a cart with spare amenities was constantly parked right outside my room door, which was quite an eyesore every time I opened it. I brought this up during check-out, but I doubt they'll take it seriously.

Staff were so friendly, always smiling and ready to assist. Rooms on the smaller side, not sure if it's the layout that made it feel more cramped, but Japan hotel rooms are generally like that. Best thing about this hotel is the open air natural hot spring! Amazing view of the mountains and you can even see Kiyomizu Dera temple in the distance. The water temperature was also not burning hot like some other public baths. There are complimentary drinks (including alcohol) on the rooftop terrace everyday from 4.30 to 6pm. Also free drinks from coffee machine all day in the lounge. I did not take hotel breakfast as I saw it is only simple bento box instead of buffet, so you can get better food outside.

Environment: The location is quite convenient, not far from Osaka's transportation hub. Facilities: The hotel facilities are comprehensive, especially the hot springs on the first floor which are great for relaxing. Most other amenities are self-service. Cleanliness: The cleanliness is good, and it's well-maintained. Service: No late check-out, and only one bottle of water per night. These two points were a bit disappointing.

Perfect Location & Outstanding Staff Support! Exceptional location directly opposite JR Kyoto Station, surrounded by dining, convenience stores, and souvenir shops. The breakfast offered a good variety of Western and Japanese options. Most importantly, the staff went above and beyond when my children fell sick. They saved us from an expensive clinic which we found in web by recommending a wonderful local clinic just 10 minutes on foot away. The doctor was kind, reasonable, and provided medicine immediately. The family room is also great! Highly recommended for families and travelers!

This hotel is just a short walk from Karasuma Oike subway station, and about a 10-15 minute walk (roughly one kilometer) to Shijo Kawaramachi for shopping. Yet, the hotel itself is located on a quiet side street off a main road, offering a peaceful environment amidst the bustle. The soundproofing is excellent, making it perfect for light sleepers who need quiet. While the rooms are small, like many in Japan, the layout is well-designed; you can easily open two large suitcases. There's a 7-Eleven and a 24-hour Fresco supermarket just steps from the hotel, which is a huge plus. The front desk service was fantastic and super friendly, and communication in English was incredibly smooth. I needed to change a restaurant reservation, but the restaurant only spoke Japanese, making it difficult to communicate. The front desk staff were very patient and efficiently helped me sort it out—much appreciated!. The lobby offers complimentary coffee and tea, along with a co-working area. Overall, it's great value for money and a very comfortable stay. Highly recommended!

If you're traveling with kids to Kyoto and Nara, this hotel is hands down the best choice! 1. It's directly opposite Kyoto Station, making transportation to all surrounding areas super convenient. You can walk to the train or JR station, and there's an indoor walkway right across the street from the hotel, so you won't get hot or sunburnt. 2. There are tons of dining options nearby, so you don't even need to venture out to areas like Shijo. There are also a few shopping malls. 3. Make sure to book the newly renovated room type. They are fresh and clean, and the rooms are spacious – essential when traveling with children. 4. We booked a twin room and stayed with our 8-year-old child; the hotel confirmed there was no extra charge. 5. Do note that check-out is at 11 AM. We didn't realize and left at 12 PM, which incurred a 2,000 yen charge. Just be mindful of the time!

Everything is perfect except the so-called wagyu dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the photo of the menu presents a nice wagyu and you can pre-order as many times as you can within 90 minutes, the beef was served in a very disgusting appearance. It is tough and dark yet it is not done inside. It is definitely not worthy of 7890 yens pax. It was electric grill but not charcoal grill. Anyway, the services provided the waiter, Alan, is brilliant. He was sincere and friendly. The housekeeper, Ms Aina Sao was also deserve my praise. She works with a nice and sincere manner and always put a smile on her face. Also, there are free wine, snacks and beer after 3 pm. You could also grind coffee beans and make yourself a cup of nice coffee. The public bath is not a real onsen. There should be no natural minerals in the water but a slight smell of chlorine. All in all, Hotel Potel is definitely on my list when I visit Kyoto next time.

I stayed here 10 years ago. The hotel looked exactly the same. It is a little bit on the old school side, but everything is clean and impeccable. The first day I arrived I had a stomach issue and the hotel was really kind and helped send fresh ginger tea up to my room and requested. They went out out of their way to find me fresh ginger. The second day I strained my back from lifting heavy luggage. They are once again very kind and send a staff to help me pack all my belongings and help me coordinate sending my luggage to Tokyo so I don’t need to lift it on the train. Special thanks to Naing Thiri who is so kind and help me pack everything so neatly and even help me get dressed Honestly, when I first checked in and the hotel looks a little bit outdated I was thinking maybe next day I would not want to come back but with the great service, I would definitely stay here again if I come to Kyoto

As an Amanjunkie, it's not just love at first sight; I genuinely adore the hotel's location, design, and ambiance – it truly didn't disappoint. Every corner of the hotel and every detail in the room's layout is perfect for an Amanjunkie like me, and the quality of the toiletries is outstanding. The restaurant is beautiful and offers a happy hour with complimentary drinks and snacks. While the selection isn't vast, with such a perfect atmosphere, who really cares? It's also worth mentioning that the hotel boasts a stunning indoor and outdoor hot spring, complete with a beautifully designed small lounge area – simply flawless. Compared to other Aman properties, though, I personally wouldn't recommend this one for a first-time Aman guest.

I noticed this hotel's location on my last visit to Kyoto. It's incredibly convenient for Eikando, Philosopher's Path, Ginkakuji, Honen-in, Anrakuji, Shinnyodo, Eishoin, Chion-in, and Shoren-in – absolutely the best choice for autumn leaf viewing. The hotel is small yet exquisite, offering excellent tea sets and tea. It boasts a beautiful garden shared with Okazaki Shrine's別邸 (detached residence). The hotel facilities are also good (though unfortunately, no buckwheat pillows, and the air conditioning temperature was a bit uncomfortable and hard to adjust). The lounge has a nice view, serving only alcohol, coffee, and tea. I ordered a chestnut cake. The restaurant service was polite but lacked warmth. There's a large supermarket and a bus stop nearby, but restaurants are a bit further away, so I didn't go out in the evenings.

I initially booked for only two nights before my trip, and later when I wanted to extend my stay, I found the price had doubled, which I regretted. However, the actual experience was excellent. The hotel's hot spring was free to use and very relaxing. The complimentary matcha in the lobby was available anytime and was a lovely touch. The breakfast spread over three days was never the same, with a rich variety of seafood, hot dishes, and fruits that were all delicious. Looking back, even though the room rate increased, considering all these amenities included, it was still quite reasonable. Next time, I'll book for a longer duration in advance to avoid similar issues.

The front desk staff were very polite, but it seemed there weren't any Chinese-speaking staff. The hotel feels a bit old, and it seems to cater more to local Japanese guests rather than mainland Chinese tourists. It's a bit far from Kamo River, and it's about a 2km walk back from the shopping street. It's quite close to the subway station (and two lines intersect there), but in Kyoto, it's generally more convenient to take the bus. Next time, I might choose a hotel with more bus stops right outside. Also, there's no washing machine or laundry room, which is quite inconvenient for extended stays. The water dispenser and ice machine on our floor were also broken... I feel like the facilities could be greatly improved. The onsen (hot spring bath) is small and gets very crowded; the women's bath was almost always full at every time of day. It's like no one wants to shower in their own room's bathtub; everyone prefers the public bath for convenience.

This branded hotel in Kyoto offers great value for money. Kyoto is home to many luxury hotels like Aman, Capella, and Park Hyatt, which can be quite pricey and are better suited for a staycation to truly immerse oneself in Kyoto's culture. For this one-night stay, I chose the Westin. It's a large, established five-star hotel. Although it's older, all the details are still very well-maintained. The hotel is within walking distance of Nanzen-ji Temple, and a short taxi ride to Kawaramachi Shijo and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. There's also a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station every hour at 10 and 40 minutes past, which is very convenient. I booked two rooms and they were assigned next to each other. They even gave us the rooms at 12 PM, and the rooms had balconies. The breakfast was plentiful and excellent, with many freshly prepared dishes. For a hotel of this caliber in Kyoto, the price is truly remarkable.

This hotel is super convenient, right by Kyoto Station, just a 5-minute walk. Plus, there's a Lopia and Takashimaya nearby, which is a bonus. The room itself was really new. We stayed for four nights, and on the third night, we noticed the air conditioner was leaking a bit. I looked it up online, and it seems like it might be a clogged drain pipe. We had our child with us, and I had already disinfected so many surfaces in the room with alcohol wipes, so we just decided to stick with it rather than change rooms. I'd definitely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto. I've stayed at three hotels in Kyoto, and this one offered great value for money, especially at around 450 RMB during the summer. Oh, and there are tons of great food options around Kyoto Station! Just a heads-up: avoid Touyoutei. We ordered a set meal and then a cake, and after waiting 40 minutes for the cake, it still hadn't arrived. Our little one was practically falling asleep waiting!

The room amenities are good enough, and the room size is reasonable for the price. The hotel is very close to Kyoto Station, making it convenient to travel to other places. There is also a Lawson convenience store right beside the hotel. The hotel provides early baggage storage service for guests who arrive before check-in time, and luggage storage is also available on the day of check-out. The staff are helpful and friendly. The breakfast is great, and the onsen is perfect for relaxing after a long and tiring day of travelling. A few things that could improve the stay further: 1. The hairdryer could be upgraded, as the airflow is very weak. 2. The mattress and pillows could also be improved, as they seem quite worn out and have already started to sink.

This is a budget hotel aiming for something more—and they’ve genuinely succeeded. The room was probably the smallest we’ve ever stayed in (think sleeping on a boat or in an RV), but it was spotless and well designed. Every afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 the hotel offers a complimentary sake bar in the lobby.  They also offer an impressive selection of amenities: toothbrushes, razors, face masks, serums, bath salts, and more. Breakfast is excellent, with plenty of variety. The onsen is O.K. and alternates between men’s and women’s use. We used the laundry and it is conveniently located and inexpensive.  It rained while we were there and they offered us umbrellas. The staff are friendly and helpful, without exception. The location is fantastic—just steps from Teramachi and Nishiki Markets, an easy walk to multiple train stations, and close to both the Gion and Pontocho districts. There are countless restaurants in every direction. On one of the afternoons during our four‑night stay, the hotel even hosted a free maiko (apprentice geisha) performance in the lobby, which was beautifully done.

Facilities: You have to walk through an alley to find the hotel entrance. Upon entering, you pass by the staff area. The lobby environment, facing a small courtyard, is quite pleasant. However, the quality of the Otowa Hall is mediocre. They claim to offer complimentary soft drinks and snacks, but in reality, there isn't much choice. The coffee machine area was cluttered with used coffee cups, making it look a bit dirty. Service: Hotel check-in time is 3 PM, but I arrived at 2:30 PM after some early shopping. The staff brought out some snacks and even knelt down to meticulously explain the hotel's layout and check-in procedures. Hygiene: I stayed in a Japanese-style room with a tatami mat. Overall, I was quite satisfied with the environment, but the bed sheets had a strong, stale odor. It felt like they weren't changed between guests... even perfume couldn't cover the smell. Overall, I felt this hotel prioritizes formality. The internal quality still has room for improvement!

The room we stayed in had more of a western fee to it (a chaise lounge and a single seat instead of the traditional Japanese table). Regardless, the room was very pretty with traditional Japanese wall paper, blinds and bathroom. The blinds were a tiny bit spotted with stains especially near the furniture which we overlooked, but the amenities were plentiful and offered in the room. The beds were extremely comfortable and chargers for phones were made readily available. Very nice to melt away in bed after a long day without needing to unpack chargers. The shared baths were also beautiful, large frosted glass surrounded the bath with an outdoor section that offered more of a nature environment. Since this is exclusive to guests there were times where I was there all by myself for a few minutes which brought deep appreciation. I did not indulge in the hotels food offerings, and nearby places closed around 11pm so nothing to eat until the morning when we stayed. We found delicious bites and a fair at a nearby temple/park in the morning and indulged in fresh sushi quick bites before heading to our next destination.

I stayed at this hotel for the entire three-day trip to Kyoto. The location of the hotel is not bad. It takes a few minutes to walk to the Kamogawa River, and about ten minutes to walk to Takashimaya? Just take a walk. The variety of breakfast is incomparable to that in China. The bread is quite good. I also saw his bakery in Osaka Takashimaya. The room area is considered large in Japan, and the hygiene is also OK. Dyson hair dryer, free mask, whitening sensitive skin should be used with caution. The minibar gave a lot of small biscuits and fruits, and the taste is OK. There is no bottled water. It is said that the tap is direct drinking water and can only be boiled for drinking. The water flow of the tap is small, but the shower water pressure is enough.

It's been a while since I last visited Kyoto, and this time I stayed at the Park Hyatt. I was initially worried it might be too 'influencer-hyped,' but I ended up being extremely satisfied. The location, decor, cleanliness, and service were all impeccable. I was particularly impressed by the design and material choices – truly ingenious. Online reviews often recommended room 308 for the Ninen-zaka Suite, and I had requested it in advance. However, I was given 208 upon arrival, which was a bit disappointing at first. But after staying there, I actually felt 208 might be better for summer, offering more privacy and a balcony with pleasant greenery that was easy on the eyes. The hotel is located in Kiyomizu Gojo. Coming from Osaka, take the Keihan Line to Kiyomizu Gojo Station, exit 4, and the hotel is right across the street. However, the Special Express doesn't stop here; you'll need to transfer to a Semi-Express or local train at Sanjo. I originally booked this hotel hoping to be near the Kamo River for a morning stroll. While this section of the Kamo River in Gojo is less crowded, the scenery around Shijo Kawaramachi is much more beautiful for photos. The biggest convenience of this hotel is its proximity to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, Yasaka Shrine, and that area. It's only a 15-minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera and about 20 minutes to Hanamikoji. Getting to Takashimaya via the subway is also very easy, just a few stops. The hotel facilities are comprehensive, and the room easily accommodates two large suitcases without feeling cramped. The breakfast is worth the price, and all the staff are warm and friendly. They were always helpful when I asked them to call a taxi or borrow an umbrella, which made for a great experience. I am from Yangzhou, Jiangsu. Although Yangzhou is a garden city, there are many such style escape hotels in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, Hongxi Noya of Hoshino Group is definitely worth living. The overall health is very good, the facilities are well maintained and there is no musty smell. That is, all the windows can be wiped clean. This time I checked in in the evening. When I took a taxi, I saw the sunset of Lushan, which was a value-added item. The reception staff was very polite and welcoming. At night, the girl was invited to drive us to the hotel entrance. This road was too standard, almost standing on the mountain, and there was a feeling of adventure. When I checked out, I felt the ship of Hoshino. Better than expected!!! Very spacious First of all, the transportation is very convenient, just one minute walk from Gojo Station, the public areas are beautifully landscaped, our room just happened to see Kyoto Tower and Higashi Honganji Temple downstairs (worth a visit, very large and exquisite), Nishi Honganji Temple is a world heritage site but has not been redecorated, not as beautiful as Higashi Honganji Temple. The only thing is that the water temperature is not particularly stable, but it is not too cold. I guess it is due to the age of the hotel. The air conditioner is a bit noisy at night. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The decor really added to the atmosphere of the place and there was a lovely communal area for relaxing. This offered different seating areas with access to free tea and coffee, a microwave and mini oven. The hotel is directly above a 7/eleven so it was very convenient for bringing in food to eat. There was a laundry room but it was very busy and the washing machine didn't sound very happy and the drying seemed to take people a long time. We were glad to have done washing before arriving here. The room was quite big and the bed was on a raised platform so cases could be stored underneath. It was very dark in the room because of the decor. We did sleep well. The bathroom was very modern and clean with a wet room style shower. All areas of the hotel were very clean throughout our stay and staff were visibly working to maintain a high standard. Kyoto was extremely busy at the time of our stay (during golden week) so we focused our visits to places that could be walked to or accessed from the Kiyomizu-Gojo Station on the Keihan Line. We did one trip that involved buses and it was horrendously busy with the longest queues at bus stops we've ever seen.

I've stayed at this hotel twice now, and its location right inside Kyoto Station is incredibly convenient. You don't really hear any train noise either, which is great. The rooms and overall environment are excellent. My only minor complaint is that the front desk staff seemed a bit perfunctory.

The hotel's location is excellent, right next to Kyoto Station, making it super convenient for both buses and JR. The room was small but very clean. The location is good, and the room is decorated in a retro style. However, the room had a strong damp smell when I first checked in. There were many buttons for the shower, which made it a bit difficult to use; the water kept turning off, and I had to press them again – maybe I just didn't know how to use them properly… Also, on my first night, I left a vacuum-sealed comforter on the wardrobe (which I hadn't touched), and it suddenly fell off during the night, giving me a fright. The breakfast was quite nice. Overall, it was pretty good.

Great location! There's a bus stop right downstairs that goes to many attractions, and Nijo Castle and the subway station are just 300 meters north. The hotel lobby is simple and stylish. The room layout is well-designed, clean, and just the right size for a solo traveler. Blown away by the bakery downstairs! Not only do they have freshly baked bread, but also delicious and affordable food from the hotel restaurant. I loved how plentiful the hotel shuttle bus and taxis were! 😍 On our first night, we got an upgraded room. While it was bigger, the toilet and shower were combined. Since we were traveling with an elder, I was concerned about the safety of climbing in and out of the bathtub. After speaking with the front desk, they changed us back to our original room type. The next day, the hotel staff even brought our luggage directly to the new room and helped set up the extra bed – I was so grateful! ❤️ The hotel is located in Nakanoshima, which is perfect for a city walk. I'll definitely stay here again next time!!

Facilities: The facilities are comprehensive, with all daily necessities provided in the room, so there's no need to buy extra or bring your own. Each floor has self-service washing machines with both washing and drying functions, which is very convenient. Just prepare one-yen coins, or you can exchange them at the front desk. Hygiene: The hygiene is excellent, very clean overall. If you need your room cleaned, you need to put the cleaning sign on the door before 2 PM; otherwise, it won't be cleaned. Environment: The environment is superb, right in the city center, very close to Shinsaibashi and Umeda commercial districts, just one subway stop away. The subway is the Midosuji Line (red line), and it's about a 700m walk from the hotel. It's also quiet despite being in a bustling area. The hotel surroundings are very peaceful, with a 7-Eleven and a coffee shop right outside, and many restaurants and cafes nearby. Service: The service is great, and the staff are all very nice.

This is my second stay here, mainly because the location is super convenient for transportation and shopping. It's right by Kintetsu Department Store, which is downstairs, and there are all sorts of delicious food options. Getting anywhere from here is a breeze. This time, I booked a room advertised as 24 square meters, but the actual experience was quite poor. It had an outdoor balcony, but the room itself was enclosed, so the balcony basically ate into the usable space, making the room feel very cramped. Plus, it wasn't cleaned properly; there was dust on the nightstand, which is really unacceptable for a five-star hotel. After discussing it with the front desk, they upgraded me to a 31-square-meter room. Their service attitude was still good. My advice for future bookings is to pay close attention to the room type. Also, they really need to improve their housekeeping.

The room was spotlessly clean, and the amenities felt high-quality. With the windows closed at night, I could barely hear any outside noise, so I slept very soundly. The breakfast offered a great variety, and the freshly made ramen and omelets were delicious. The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, right across from Daimaru Department Store and Parco Mall, with direct access to the Midosuji subway line downstairs. I especially want to praise the front desk staff. On the night of check-in, my suitcase lock broke, and I couldn't open it. I struggled to communicate using broken English and a translation app, but the front desk lady found a staff member who spoke Chinese to help. A kind gentleman with glasses and big eyes used a tool to open one of the zippers for me, saving me from the embarrassment of not having any clothes to change into in the hot weather. I'm truly grateful to the staff at Hotel Nikko for making my first trip to Japan such a positive experience. The room was also great. Since I wanted to sleep in during the day, I requested that housekeeping be done after 12 PM, and they always cleaned promptly every day. I was so busy every day that I only managed to take one photo of the Osaka Castle view from outside the hotel.

First off, I have to praise the location. The front desk is on the 19th floor, right above Kintetsu Department Store, and there's direct access to the subway connection underground, which is incredibly convenient. Being on a high floor, you get panoramic views of Osaka city. The hotel lobby is grand, and it's one of the few hotels in Japan that boasts such spacious common areas. Across the street is the MIO shopping center, and diagonally opposite is Q's Mall, with an Ito-Yokado supermarket and Tokyu Hands at its base. Plus, just down the alley next to the hotel, less than 100 meters past Mont-bell, you'll find Ichiran Ramen and more. My only complaint is that there was a strong, persistent urine smell in the room, oddly enough, the bathroom didn't have it. I initially thought about asking for a room change, but then I found out my friend's room had the same issue, so I gave up. I really hope the hotel addresses this.

The room itself is decent, though it might feel a bit cramped for two people. The location is quite good, right by what I'd call Osaka's 'Suzhou Creek.' There are many art museums nearby. However, if you're a woman walking alone at night, it can feel a bit deserted. If you plan on staying out late, a more central location might be better. I told the front desk I'm a light sleeper, but they still put me right across from the cleaning room, which was really annoying. I was woken up early in the morning by the noise. I've attached the shuttle schedule. I actually found it more convenient to take the bus to the art museum.

Traveling in Japan with kids, I was originally looking for a hotel with convenient transportation. While this one is close to a subway exit, it takes a good 10-15 minute walk underground to actually reach the station platform. The hotel entrance is tucked away in a small alley, easy to miss if you're not paying attention – you have to walk down the small lane right under the big Ryukakusan sign. On the upside, the surrounding area is packed with amazing food, all sorts of delicious options, and there's a huge supermarket under the five major department stores. The 'late-night diner' noodle shop across the street opens at 10 PM, which is great for those returning late. As expected, the room wasn't very big; the triple room seemed to be a standard twin room with an extra bed squeezed in, making it quite cramped. We could barely open one suitcase. A unique feature of the hotel is the hot spring on the 3rd floor. Lots of people were going up and down to use it every day, but since we were out early and back late, we didn't get to experience it.

Location: Situated above Daimaru department store. If you're coming from Kansai Airport via Haruka, it's about a 15-minute walk to the hotel following the JR Osaka signs. The entire route is indoors. It's even closer if you take the JR local train to Osaka Station. After exiting the platform, find the Central South Exit. Walk to the very end where there are stairs going down – *don't go down*. Instead, take the stairs going up on either side. The left side leads to the main entrance of Daimaru, and the hotel entrance is on the right. Take the elevator directly to the 19th-floor reception. There are countless shops in the vicinity, all centered around Osaka Station. To get to Daimaru from the hotel, you must take the elevator down to the first floor. Service: This is a well-established hotel, and the service is excellent. The front desk, restaurant, and floor staff all demonstrate professionalism. Mineral water is provided daily, and the hotel has an ice machine and vending machines. Breakfast is plentiful. Guests can purchase it for 4100 JPY per person. Room: The room size is decent; you can easily open three 24-inch suitcases. It's clean, and the air conditioning works well. Summary: Convenient for shopping and dining, and very easy to get to surrounding areas by JR: Kobe in 30 minutes, Kyoto in 40 minutes, and Nara in 60 minutes. Clean, tidy, and good service – an ideal choice.

We booked a quad room for our family of four, and everyone got a great night's sleep. Shopping at department stores and drugstores was incredibly convenient, and there were plenty of dining options nearby. The picture shows our first meal, which we randomly picked on the 8th floor right below the hotel – it was delicious! The public transport nearby can take you to any attraction you want to visit. Both check-in and check-out were self-service and easy to use. Things to note: 1. Remember to ask the front desk for skincare products. 2. There's a microwave in the corner of the lobby for heating food. 3. For extra trash to be collected, you need to stick a yellow sticker (found behind the door) on the garbage bag. 4. There's no water in the room, but you can get drinking water in the lobby, or buy it daily from FamilyMart downstairs. Oh, and the direct airport bus service is really a big plus! I'm not a travel expert, but following a guide made everything straightforward. I saw mixed reviews for this hotel, but I still wanted to share my genuine experience for others' reference. This hotel popped up as the top result when I searched for hotels in Osaka on Ctrip, and it definitely lived up to its reputation. The location is excellent – not far from the airport express line and several subway stations, plus it's within walking distance to Nihonbashi, Shinsaibashi, and Dotonbori, which is super convenient. The hotel has a good number of rooms, and what's particularly great is that there are many twin rooms with ample space. Each room comes with a microwave, a fridge, and a table. We mostly ate breakfast in our room, buying milk, salads, bread, and rice balls from the nearby 7-Eleven, which was cheap and easy. There's also plenty of space to hang clothes, and they provide a generous supply of hangers – a must-have for washing clothes daily in the summer. On the fifth floor, there's a self-service laundry room, and on the sixth floor, a shared 'kitchenette' where you can do some simple cooking and get water, which was very handy. The location is absolutely fantastic! The airport shuttle bus goes directly to Universal Studios. After getting off, it's just a short walk following the signs. Right outside the hotel's back door, a right turn leads you straight to the subway station 🚇. We booked a triple room. It wasn't huge, but considering it's Japan and in the Universal area, it's probably to be expected. It was a bit snug, which is typical for Japan, but for the price, I felt it offered pretty good value for money. Stepping out of the hotel, you're right in the middle of a commercial center, with everything for eating, drinking, and shopping – a true one-stop shop. It's incredibly convenient for indulging in some retail therapy and delicious food. Here's a little tip for Universal Studios: If you want great photos, try to find one of the staff members. Stayed at Onyado Nono Namba Natural Hot Spring and absolutely loved it. The hotel was exceptionally clean throughout and every staff member we met was kind, helpful and efficient. Service felt warm without being intrusive. I saw quite a few comments online saying the rooms are too small, but honestly I think it depends on which room type you book. We checked the room size before booking and found it very acceptable for Osaka standards — spacious enough to open luggage comfortably and move around without feeling cramped. One of our favourite parts was all the little extras included during the stay — the free late-night noodles every evening were surprisingly good, and the onsen was such a nice way to relax after walking all day. After the bath, there was complimentary ice cream which made the experience even better. Location is another huge plus — directly across from Dotonbori, within walking distance to Kuromon Market, and very convenient for exploring Namba and nearby areas. The whole hotel has a calm Japanese ryokan-style atmosphere while still being modern and comfortable. Would definitely stay again next time in Osaka ❤️

Convenience stores and restaurants are also within 1–3 minutes’ walk. Aside from the cold winter temperatures, everything was excellent. I recently stayed at Hotel Hanshin Osaka during my trip to Osaka, and overall it was a very satisfying experience, especially for a first-time solo traveler visiting the city. One of the biggest advantages of this hotel is definitely its excellent location. The hotel is conveniently connected to transportation, making it extremely easy to travel to many of Osaka’s famous attractions and shopping areas. Whether I wanted to visit Dotonbori, Umeda, Osaka Castle, or even take day trips to nearby cities, getting around was smooth and stress-free. For someone traveling alone and unfamiliar with Osaka, staying here made the entire trip feel much more comfortable and convenient. Another thing that impressed me was the service provided by the hotel staff. The front desk employees were always polite, professional, and welcoming. They greeted guests with genuine smiles and were very helpful whenever I had questions. Even though there was sometimes a language barrier, they still tried their best to assist me, which made me feel appreciated as a guest. Good hospitality can really affect the overall travel experience, and this hotel certainly delivered in that aspect. The room itself was clean and well-maintained. Although the room size was slightly small, which is quite common in Japan, the facilities inside were surprisingly complete and thoughtfully arranged. Everything I needed was provided, and the layout was efficient enough that I still felt comfortable during my stay. The in-room hot spring bath was also a very enjoyable feature. After spending long hours walking around Osaka every day, being able to relax in the warm bath at night was incredibly refreshing and helped me recover from fatigue. If I had to mention one downside, it would only be the limited room space. However, considering the location, service quality, cleanliness, and facilities, I still think this hotel offers great value overall. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Osaka for the first time, especially solo travelers who want a convenient, comfortable, and reliable place to stay.

I used Osaka as my base for daily trips to surrounding cities, and for that purpose, this hotel was perfect. The bedding and onsen (hot spring) exceeded my expectations. The front desk is on the second floor, and after checking in, you can pick out your pajamas and a suitable pillow from a designated area on the same floor. Another highlight on the second floor is a free lounge bar for guests, offering complimentary drinks and alcohol. Many guests choose to grab a simple dinner from downstairs or on their way back, then enjoy it leisurely at the bar. The hotel's onsen has incredibly generous hours, operating overnight. It's fantastic to be able to soak and relax even after returning to the hotel late at night. There's a subway station and a Family Mart convenience store right below the hotel, making travel and finding food and drinks very convenient. While it's a bit of a walk to Shinsaibashi, the overall value for money is still excellent.

I chose the Royal Park Hotel at Osaka Kitahama Station again this time. The room was spacious and clean. You can find amenities like shower caps, toothbrushes, razors, face masks, and loofahs at the self-service machine next to the check-in counter on the 2nd floor. The hotel is conveniently located within 100 meters of the Subway K Line, Hankyu KH Line, and Keihan Main Line HK. The Subway M Line is also within 700 meters. There are banks and office buildings nearby, and a 7-Eleven on the ground floor. It's very quiet at night, and during lunchtime, you can see many office workers buying lunch at 7-Eleven.

Fantastic location! Just cross the traffic light and you are right in the heart of Shinsaibashi. Whoever loves Lululemon it is just right opposite the hotel. The room come with washing machine which is great for families. The only thing not good is that the hotel lighting is insufficient. It’s a little bit dim. Definitely will stay again because of its location.

I always opt for five-star hotels when I travel, but summer prices were just too high this year. So, I took a friend's recommendation and booked this place instead. 👍 It's about an hour from Kansai Airport, and Exit 13 is the closest to the hotel. The downside is there's no elevator there, so if you have a lot of luggage, I'd suggest Exit 16, which has one. The hotel's service and facilities are excellent. The room was quite spacious by Japanese hotel standards, and the bedding was incredibly comfortable – we slept soundly every night. The location is also fantastic, about a 15-minute walk to Shinsaibashi. We stayed for five nights this time and visited Kobe and Kyoto. The Chuo and Midosuji subway lines right downstairs were super convenient. I have to mention one particular incident. Check-out was at 11 AM, and our flight wasn't until 5 PM on the last day. Thinking we had plenty of time, my child and I went to Nipponbashi that morning. It wasn't until we got there that I remembered check-out was at 11! Luckily, my mother wasn't with us; she was having coffee at a cafe across from the hotel. I immediately contacted her and asked her to rush back to check out. But to our surprise, her Huawei phone couldn't connect to the hotel's Wi-Fi when she got back, and the only Pocket Wi-Fi device was with me! 😵💫 Since the reservation was under my name, the front desk needed to confirm check-out with me personally. But there was a language barrier, and my mom had no internet. She was incredibly flustered at that moment. Just then, a Chinese-speaking staff member appeared. He first calmed her down, telling her not to worry and that he would find a way to contact me, also explaining that the hotel's network was often unstable. He then took out a device and tried to connect her phone to the Wi-Fi in the lobby, but after many attempts, it didn't work. So, he took my mother back to the room and tried many more times until it finally connected, and he was able to reach me... His professionalism and meticulous work attitude deeply touched our entire family. We'd like to express our gratitude once again! I will definitely choose Tokyu Stay Osaka Hommachi again next time I visit Osaka. 👍

The Imperial Hotel Osaka boasts an excellent location near Sakuranomiya Station, offering stunning river views from its upper floors and even a glimpse of Osaka Castle in the distance. Below, the riverside greenery and small beach create a serene and lovely atmosphere. The hotel has a vintage charm, and while some facilities show their age, it didn't detract from a comfortable stay. The mattress was just right – not too soft, not too firm – and even the single beds were spacious. Room insulation was good, and the shower had strong, hot water, which was very pleasant. However, the lighting was a bit dim, making it slightly inconvenient for getting ready. This visit was specifically to experience the 'Miyake' (a term for the three most prestigious hotels in Japan) level of service, and indeed, this venerable hotel delivered polite and thoughtful service without feeling overbearing. For instance, when checking out, knowing we had plenty of time before our flight and planned to explore Umeda further, they proactively reminded us about their shuttle service to the airport if we were heading there directly. When we said we were going to Umeda, they even asked if we'd like to leave our luggage at the hotel. They also directly helped us with calling a taxi, specifying the destination, and handling our luggage. I truly loved their Japanese staff! However, it seems the hotel has hired some South Asian staff for housekeeping. I noticed some dust on the glass shelf in the bathroom and on the TV cabinet. But these are minor issues, and overall, the cleaning was quite thorough.

Hotel Intergate Osaka Umeda is a high-end hotel offering great value for money and a good level of self-service. [Rose] **Location:** It's close to Osaka Umeda Station, with shuttle buses nearby to the airport, Sannomiya, and other destinations. The heart of the Umeda commercial district is just a 10-minute walk away, and the hotel is surrounded by places like the Hilton and Herbis Plaza. A 7-Eleven and the delicious Komeda's Kitchen for breakfast are both within about a hundred meters. 🍄 **Public Areas:** The hotel is in an independent building with the front desk on the second floor, serviced by 4 elevators. One of them goes directly from the first floor, but during peak times with many guests checking in, you might have to wait. On the 18th floor, there's a gym and a large public bath, popular with Western guests. The self-service laundry room on the same floor has 6 washer-dryer combos, which are easy to use and reasonably priced. Next to the front desk, you can pick up complimentary toiletries, and guests with children can get a special kids' kit. To the left of the front desk is the self-service restaurant, where breakfast costs extra (free for children under 3). At other times, complimentary drinks and snacks are available for hotel guests. To the right of the front desk, the lounge area features large sofas and a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Adjacent to this is a separate self-service luggage storage area; if you need to store luggage, it's recommended to do so before 9 AM. There's even a thoughtful luggage scale provided. Each floor also has self-service beverage vending machines, ice makers, and microwaves. [Candy] **Room Facilities:** The rooms have a long, narrow layout, with a compact bathroom. The Wi-Fi signal is excellent. Detailed instructions for using the hotel's facilities are provided in the room and are easy to follow. If you need your room cleaned, simply place the magnetic sign on your door in advance.

RWe chose this hotel specifically to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We requested a higher-floor room in advance, but unfortunately it wasn’t provided. There was also no special setup or decoration in the room, and the front desk never mentioned anything about it. The room view was average, and the hotel is a bit of a walk from Shinsaibashi Station. The elevator had a noticeable unpleasant odour when going from the ground floor to the 3rd floor. Overall, the experience was just average. For comparison, we stayed two nights at another hotel during the same trip that was slightly cheaper, but the overall feeling and quality were noticeably better than at this W hotel.

The hotel location is great and easy to walk around exploring right in the middle of the city and you will find this gem ramen store open 24/7! The only disappointment was with the butler service or more the non existent butler service. For the price we are paying, I expected much much more from St Regis as I have been accustomed to at other St Regis Hotels. The hotel is beginning to show its age and hence the cleanliness part is coming into question when our rooms were being cleaned, I mean I am again nit picking here but it isn’t up to St Regis usual standards. The gym room is adequate but there isn’t a pool in a 5 star hotel 🙃.

Prince Hotel Osaka Bay | A Perfect Getaway with Full-Score Ocean Views and Exceptional Service My recent stay at the Prince Hotel Osaka Bay during my Osaka trip was truly an unexpectedly perfect experience, definitely deserving a five-star rating! 🌊 Stunning Ocean Views, Utterly Romantic Perched on Osaka Bay, the ocean view rooms offer an unbeatable vista! On clear days, you can spot the Akashi Kaikyō Bridge and Awaji Island in the distance, but the most breathtaking moment is at sunset, when the entire sea turns a vibrant orange-red, romantic beyond words. At night, Osaka Bay twinkles with lights, the city's nightscape reflecting beautifully on the water – it’s gorgeous both day and night. 🏨 Elegant Design, Comfortable Rooms The hotel, formerly a Hyatt, boasts a retro-modern Art Deco style throughout, with marble columns and brass accents exuding sophistication. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the bathroom is large with excellent water pressure. The lighting is thoughtfully designed and cozy, with a sense of quality evident in every detail. 🤵 Attentive Service, Like Home The front desk staff and all other personnel were incredibly friendly and provided top-notch service. When a guest had an unexpected issue late at night, the front desk reacted swiftly and handled it adeptly. The executive lounge's happy hour offered a wide selection of alcoholic beverages, including champagne, and a thoughtful variety of non-alcoholic options too. 🏊 Excellent Facilities, Utmost Convenience Guests have free access to the indoor pool and gym, and there's also an outdoor garden pool and spa. A Lawson convenience store is conveniently located in the hotel's basement – so handy! It's just a 3-minute walk to Nakafuto Subway Station, and there's a free shuttle bus service to and from JR Osaka Station. Plus, it's super close to Universal Studios Japan. 🍽️ Diverse Dining, Delicious Offerings Multiple restaurants provide a variety of choices. The comprehensive breakfast is light yet features Japanese specialties, with fresh and sweet fruits. The seafood salad and other dishes in the executive lounge were also quite outstanding. Whether for a romantic getaway, a family trip, or solo travel, this hotel is simply perfect. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Osaka! Highly recommended to all friends visiting Osaka!

Overall, a very enjoyable stay. The hotel offers complimentary alcoholic drinks during happy hour every day, and a coffee machine is available all time for both takeaway and dine-in guests. The room was spacious, clean, and housekeeping was available on demand daily. I highly recommend the breakfast at the restaurant. Many options for western and Japanese style healthy or comfort food. The hotel is about a 5–8 minute walk from the metro station and around 15 minutes from the train station. Good location, clean. However, the facilities are quite limited. The hotel does not provide any laundry or washing machine services. We had to bring our clothes to the nearest laundry shop, which is about 10 minutes away. It would be helpful if the hotel could offer a laundry service, or assist guests by sending clothes to a nearby laundry with an additional charge. Otherwise, guests have to wait there for about 50 minutes just for the laundry to be ready.

Everything is fine exept the thinnest and hardest pillow I've ever seen in my life. A bit old amenities add a touch of true charm to here. They speak a bit English. The only unpleasant point was my communcation about the locker key I couldn't find in the morning. They immediately asked me to pay 7.000 yen as for lost item, not even suggesting to wait for it to be found by staff or guests, as I hadn't left the premises. Of course, the key was found by someone very soon.

It's a great hotel, location is in the business district so a little bit further from central Osaka (Dotonbori etc) if that's where you'd prefer to be. The onsen is great, as long as you follow the rules it's really relaxing and the amenities are fabulous. Right next to Shin-Imamiya subway station, so getting around is incredibly convenient. The front desk staff rotate, with two people on duty at a time, including locals, Chinese, Koreans, and Indians. There's a women's shower on the 4th floor, men's showers on the 6th, and a men's bathhouse and microwave on the 10th. Downstairs, there are convenience stores, pharmacies, and places to eat nearby. The room was super small, but quite clean, and they provided towels and plastic slippers. Because it's close to the train tracks, there's a bit of noise. The main advantage of Sotetsu Hotels is the price. The facilities are very complete, with basic cosmetics like makeup remover and moisturizer available for self-service, and there's also a microwave. The room is indeed small, you can't fully open a 28-inch suitcase, but it's not too cramped for one person, and the space is quite well-arranged. For some reason, it was a bit noisy at night, so if you're a light sleeper, you might want to reconsider.

This hotel is right next to Namba Shrine and super close to the W Osaka hotel; I could always find it by looking for the W hotel's sign. It's also very near Shinsaibashi, about a 20-minute walk to the iconic Glico Running Man sign and only about 15 minutes to the liveliest shopping area. There are plenty of convenience stores and various small shops nearby, making shopping and dining incredibly easy. The room, as expected, was 'Japanese-style compact' (read: on the smaller side 😂), but impeccably clean. The bidet was a great bonus. The hot water was wonderfully soothing – perfect for unwinding after a long day out. As a relatively new hotel in Japan, the internet speed was excellent, suitable for both work and streaming. The breakfast, while not as varied as some domestic hotels, was more than satisfying for my needs. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, and I would definitely come back if I have the chance.

For my recent trip to Osaka and Kyoto, I booked my Osaka accommodation through Trip.com. Unfortunately, I missed my flight and didn't arrive in Osaka until after 10 PM. I took a taxi directly from Osaka Station to what I thought was my hotel, only to find out that the address listed on Trip.com for this Ibis hotel was completely wrong. It was for a different Ibis in Osaka! After getting out of the taxi, the front desk informed us that our actual hotel was another 5-minute walk away. I was speechless. I had to drag my tired body further to find the correct hotel address. By the time I finally checked in, it was past 1 AM. I sincerely hope this issue can be improved to avoid causing trouble for future guests. On a positive note, the front desk staff were friendly and polite. While the room was small, it had all the necessary amenities.
