What exactly is the Japan Rail Pass and what does it cover?

The Japan Rail Pass is a multi-use discount ticket valid for unlimited travel on almost all JR Group national trains, including local lines, limited express trains, and the Hikari or Sakura Shinkansen tickets. It also covers the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport, select local JR buses, and the JR West Miyajima Ferry.

Understanding the precise coverage is crucial before you arrive. In Tokyo alone, the pass gives you unlimited loops on the famous JR Yamanote Line, connecting major hubs like Shibuya, Harajuku, and Ueno. If you are flying into Narita Airport (NRT), your pass fully covers the Narita Express (N'EX), instantly saving you about ¥3,000 (MYR 75) right out of the gate. For Kansai International Airport (KIX) arrivals, the Haruka Limited Express will whisk you straight to Kyoto Station or Tennoji Station for free.

Additionally, you gain access to the scenic Hida Wide View limited express train traversing the Japanese Alps toward Takayama, and the rapid Marine Liner crossing the Seto Inland Sea to Shikoku. These niche, hyper-scenic routes are where the pass truly shines for the adventurous traveler. Remember, the pass does not cover non-JR private railways, city subways, or the ultra-fast Nozomi and Mizuho Shinkansen classes without purchasing an expensive supplementary ticket. Stick to the fully covered trains, and you will get exactly where you need to go with zero extra out-of-pocket costs.

How much does the Japan Rail Pass cost in 2026?

A standard 7-day nationwide Japan Rail Pass costs ¥50,000 (approx. MYR 1,257) for adults and ¥25,000 (MYR 628) for children. The premium 7-day Green Car (First Class) pass costs ¥70,000 (MYR 1,759), offering larger seats, footrests, and guaranteed luggage space for premium travelers.

Since the nationwide price adjustment, maximizing your pass requires a bit of smart routing. Below is the official 2026 pricing for the nationwide passes, clearly mapped out in both Japanese Yen (JPY) and estimated Malaysian Ringgit (MYR). Note that infants under 6 travel for free if they sit on an adult's lap, while children aged 6 to 11 qualify for the 50% discounted child rate.

Is the Japan Rail Pass still worth it for your itinerary?

Yes, the Japan Rail Pass remains highly profitable if your itinerary involves multi-city, long-distance travel across regions. A classic Golden Route expanded to Hiroshima (Tokyo to Kyoto, then Hiroshima, Osaka, and back to Tokyo) typically costs ¥56,000 in individual Shinkansen tickets, making the ¥50,000 7-day pass a brilliant investment.

Let’s break down the real-world math. If your plan is strictly a one-way trip from Tokyo to Osaka, a single Shinkansen ticket costs around ¥14,720 (MYR 370). In that scenario, paying as you go is cheaper. However, savvy travelers know the real value lies in layering day trips and regional leaps.

Imagine basing yourself in Tokyo but taking a day trip to the alpine beauty of Karuizawa on the Hokuriku Shinkansen, followed by a journey down to Kyoto Station on the Tokaido Shinkansen. Throw in a trip on the JR Nara Line to see the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine, and a high-speed dash down to Hakata Station in Fukuoka. Your individual ticket costs will quickly exceed ¥65,000 (MYR 1,634).

For a concrete example, a round trip from Tokyo to the ski resorts of Hokkaido via the Tohoku and Hokkaido Shinkansen lines would normally cost upwards of ¥46,000 (MYR 1,156) in standard individual fares. By layering just one more regional trip—like a journey from Hakodate to Sapporo—you instantly push your transit costs well past the ¥50,000 pass threshold. The math is simple: long-distance travel rewards pass holders exponentially. By choosing to buy JR Pass online, you immediately save massive amounts of money and completely bypass the hassle of queuing at ticket machines during rush hour.

Maximizing your pass means staying near major JR hubs. Not only does this save you from dragging heavy luggage through crowded subways, but it ensures you can jump on a bullet train the moment you wake up.

Tokyo: The Shinjuku and Shinagawa Hubs

For seamless airport access via the Narita Express, stay right above the action. The Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo is a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Station, dropping you right onto the JR Chuo Line. Alternatively, the Shinagawa Prince Hotel sits directly across from Shinagawa Station, meaning you can transition from your hotel bed to your reserved Tokaido Shinkansen seat in under ten minutes.

Hotel staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. The bell boy who helped me with bringing my luggages to the room was very friendly and helpful, spoke good English too. Though not all staff spoke good English, they tried their best to assist me. Their service standard is consistent throughout. The room and the toilet was spacious and clean. There were 4 restuarants that I could go to for breakfast. The Garden Lounge which served buffet breakfast has a wide selection of food and drink. Most importantly the food was yummy! I enjoyed looking at the beautiful garden with waterfall view as I was seated by the window during breakfast.

We had a fantastic stay at Mitsui Garden Hotel Ginza. The location is perfect—within walking distance of great shopping, restaurants, public transport, the famous Tsukiji Market, and just a stone's throw from the beautiful Hama-rikyu Gardens, which made our stay even more special as it's where we got engaged. The service was exceptional, with friendly and professional staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Our room was spotless, modern, surprisingly spacious, and offered a beautiful view of the city. Breakfast was excellent, with a wonderful selection of fresh Japanese and Western dishes to start each day. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. We would happily stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo. Everything about our stay exceeded our expectations. The service at the Imperial Hotel is truly exceptional. From the front desk concierge who escorts guests to their rooms and explains the facilities, the staff are incredibly friendly without being overly formal. It perfectly embodies the hospitality and service standards from Japan's economic boom era. Honestly, the photos don't do the hotel justice, and the facilities aren't the newest, but once you stay, you'll find it incredibly comfortable. The provided toiletries are also excellent. The toilet area, designed so you can sit and do your makeup, is a really thoughtful touch – the Imperial Hotel in Osaka has the same feature. It might look unassuming, but it's very thoughtful and provides a comfortable stay. I found the breakfast buffet to be just okay, not as amazing as some reviews suggest, but it's definitely superior to many hotels in the same price range. Personally, I prefer the Japanese set menu; it truly captures the essence of a Japanese breakfast.

The room was incredibly spacious, and the elevators were very efficient. There are plenty of dining options nearby, and it's conveniently located close to both JR and subway lines, making transportation a breeze. The staff were very friendly, and the self-service check-in and check-out made everything super convenient. You can store your luggage after checking out, and there's a bus service to Haneda Airport.

We booked the Tokyo tower side view room. When lying on the bed we are directly facing to the side of the Tokyo tower to enjoy the fantastic tower view. The room is with good size. There is a ventilation feature on the window bay where you can get some fresh air. The bathtub has the bottom massage function which I quite like it. The TV is a bit old and small though. The breakfast we chose is on the top floor where you can enjoy the city view around the hotel. Breakfast options are not too many but definitely enough, the taste is quite good I would say. There are many entertainment options in the hotel, such as public bath and bowling.

Room and bed were very comfortable, immaculately clean and modern. 2 mins walk from train station, if you need lift access to train then a 6 mins walk, we had a stroller. Breakfast was a bit of a zoo, we went during Christmas, very busy! But tables were spacious so even though there were so many people you don’t feel cramped. Good variety of food selection. We had dinner at the Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. Delicious, especially the tuna salad. I found the lobby staff a little lack of personality, at check in, no mentioning of where breakfast will be, what time check out is. Just checked you in and that’s it, no personal notes in the room. When I expressed I’ve lost my phone at the shop in Tokyo, no sign of empathy (it was a western male staff) no gesture of helpfulness, very cold and robotic. This goes for concierge also, he is an older western gentleman, he needs to use Google translate also which is frustrating cause I could do exactly the same research with Google translate. Overall, hardware is solid, need to fine tune the staff, sprinkle a little bit of personality in them.

Getting to the hotel from Shinagawa was super easy, there's a direct bus. Plus, the hotel is really close to the subway station – you can even see the Yurikamome Line platform right from your room. The best part, though, was going to Disney! The hotel has a direct shuttle that takes you right to the park entrance. You just need to book your morning departure and evening return the day before, which is incredibly convenient!

The soundproofing is terrible; I barely slept because it was so noisy. You can hear every step from upstairs, and I didn't get a good night's sleep for three days. The hotel is quite old. Its only selling point is the nice courtyard. The sauna is very old and costs extra. There are virtually no amenities.

Overall, it's pretty good. The room isn't huge, but there's enough space to open three suitcases comfortably. It's very clean, and they bring fresh pajamas daily. The amenities are comprehensive, including a fridge – though a microwave would have been a nice addition. Both check-in and check-out are semi-self-service, which is very efficient. Thumbs up! The biggest plus is definitely the location; it's super convenient for getting anywhere. It’s only a five to six-minute walk from Ginza Station, and the surrounding shopping area is fantastic for browsing. Plus, there are plenty of convenience stores nearby.

I arrived at 11 PM for check-in, and the hotel is conveniently located right off Ginza's main street. The front desk staff was efficient, and communication in simple English was no problem. They even provided toiletries. As it's a new hotel, there's no need for power adapters; USB and Type-C ports are directly available. The room is very spacious, and the bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. I could easily open up my 28-inch suitcase. Breakfast was also good, with plenty of choices.

This was my third stay, and this hotel truly is a hidden gem among all the hotels in Tokyo. Every morning, I'd wake up and walk to the outer market for breakfast. The hotel service is also excellent. Previously, the bathroom in the same room type was different, so I contacted Trip.com. Trip.com then reached out to the hotel, and a dedicated staff member showed us several room types to understand the situation, and then changed us to a satisfactory room. On each floor, room numbers 20-25 are double rooms. Rooms 20 and 25 have bathrooms like the one shown in picture two, while rooms 21-24 have better bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers. Also, rooms 21-24 have beds that are actually 1.8m, while rooms 20 and 25 have 1.6m beds, even though all are listed as 1.6m – they are actually different! However, room 20 is the furthest from the elevator, so it depends on personal preference. All in all, I'm very satisfied with this price point in Tokyo.

The room facilities were well-equipped, and the cleanliness was top-notch; there were no unpleasant odors. Breakfast is served on the first floor. We stayed for five nights and went at different times, but on three of those days, we encountered a queue. If you're in a hurry, you might want to factor in some extra time.

Considering Tokyo's premium on space, the hotel room was surprisingly spacious. We were able to fully open two 30-inch suitcases with no problem. You can even see the Tokyo Tower right from your room – I'd recommend opting for a higher floor for an even more stunning night view. The hotel service was excellent too; check-in was super quick. Located on the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station, this hotel, though not large, offers exceptionally warm and attentive service. Every staff member I encountered greeted me proactively. I arrived at 2:15 PM, before check-in time, and stored my luggage. After a quick stroll around the area, I returned to find my bags already neatly placed in my room. When I needed more water, the front desk delivered it to my room in an instant. The room itself was very quiet and well-equipped with all necessary amenities. For such a central location, the value for money is outstanding. The view from the window is excellent; during the day, the train tracks are busy with trains coming and going, while at night, the city lights are spectacular. I even saw a rainbow on the day I checked in – a lovely start to my stay.

The hotel is at great location (right across the road from the Shinagawa train station) but upon check in. They were so disappointing. First I waited in the self check in for 15 mins but were then told i can’t check in for two rooms there. Then I waited 20 mins in the manual check in queue and then all of the sudden. All receptionists left the reception desk. Waited another 15 mins and 2 complains later. The reception ladies came back out. And then there was the breakfast queues. Every morning we had to wait 20 mins to get into breakfast however this was not their fault, there were so many guests and they did try by opening the second floor and directed people to another location. The breakfast options were increditable. The amenities were great but they were all additional costs. The swimming pool was extra £25 per person to use. And when I looked down from my room. It was empty 😅。 The left luggage queue was also another 30 mins. So in total I wasted a day queueing. But the facilities and location was amazing.

Lovely hotel with in great location. However, not truly a five star hotel. At best it is a four star in my opinion. Lack of explanation of their amenities and what needs to be booked on checking in. Eg Concierge not aware that the jazz club needed to be booked in advance. Not his fault really as he has perhaps never been trained On arrival to the club, we were then literally ushered out to our embarrassment as all other sitting guests observed this as there were three members of staff attempting to use body language as they could not communicate in English nor did they wish to use their phone translate app. Very unlike Japanese people’s calm and kind style. Many areas in cerulean floor requires updating. On reporting the above, we were told that a QR code should have been provided and they forgot.

It was 5:30 PM in Otemachi, Tokyo, and a massive halo, like a holy light, enveloped the area, reflecting the silhouette of the world's most beautiful CBD on the glass facade of Otemachi Tower. Perched atop this magnificent skyscraper, Aman Tokyo, which stunned the world a decade ago, remains an unparalleled benchmark for modern city hotels. |The soaring 30-meter high atrium, crafted with washi lanterns, wood textures, and concrete and rock, creates a 'dry landscape' garden in the urban clouds. |The view facing the Imperial Palace is arguably Tokyo's most beautiful skyline (it ruthlessly trumps the already impressive view from the neighboring Bulgari). |While the ambiance at Arva, the Italian restaurant on the other side of the lobby, is superb, the food wasn't to my taste. I'd recommend the Aman Cafe on the first floor, a glasshouse enveloped by the 'Otemachi Forest' oasis instead.

This hotel is in central Tokyo and it's really huge, bugger than The Okura. But the location isn't good for tourists. The nearest subway stations to go anywhere are a 12min walk away and the nearest konbini is also a 7min walk. The hotel itself has many restaurants and has a nice garden. The room I chose was spacious but the TV is facing the side of the bed rather than the front so watching TV wasn't convenient. Service was good. This was my first time staying at The Peninsula Tokyo, and the experience was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we began corresponding with the hotel before arrival, the team made it clear that this was going to be a special stay. I had reached out in advance as this was an important trip for our family, and the team – especially Ms. Kim – went above and beyond to help organise everything smoothly. Every detail was handled with care, and it really set the tone for our visit. Throughout our stay, every interaction made us feel genuinely welcome. The lobby team, the staff at Peter, and housekeeping were all consistently warm, professional, and attentive. Small gestures, friendly smiles, and a real willingness to help turned a simple hotel stay into a collection of memories we will cherish for a long time. This trip has made The Peninsula Tokyo our new fav stay in the city. The room was a little small, but with eight suitcases we expected that. The one thing that did make me uncomfortable was the bathroom. The floor didn’t feel stable — it seemed to shift or sit on an angle, which made me feel like I was moving, almost like being in an airplane lavatory. I didn’t feel good standing in there. On the positive side, the location was excellent and close to everything. We were on floor 12, very nice views. Though small, this hotel has everything you need. Its Ginza location is incredibly convenient, perfect for shopping or quickly getting to Narita Airport via the expressway. What truly impressed me is how many features are packed into such a compact space. They have a coin-operated laundry and a large public bath. The room, which I'd estimate at about 20 square meters, even managed to fit bunk beds (1.2m/1.5m), making it very family-friendly. A minor point is that since the hotel is directly above the subway, you occasionally feel vibrations as trains pass. This led to a funny moment when an actual earthquake hit at night, and I initially thought it was just another train going by!

My overall experience with this stay was quite complex, feeling more like a test of service management capabilities. On the first day, the room cleaning quality was noticeably below expectations. The wash area, countertop details, and some amenities weren't clean enough, and the bedding wasn't tidied properly. From a housekeeping management perspective, this felt more like a failure in process execution rather than an isolated incident, and it definitely affected my first impression. However, after I raised the issue, the hotel's recovery actions were prompt. In the following days, the room cleaning was significantly more standardized, with noticeable improvements in detail. This indicates that the hotel is capable of good service, but the initial day's execution standards simply weren't met. In contrast, Trip.com's service experience during this incident left a deeper impression. The customer service proactively followed up, communicated efficiently, and handled the situation professionally. They were able to push for problem resolution from a customer experience perspective, demonstrating a mature platform service system. This level of after-sales responsiveness is quite high among current online travel platforms. Overall Rating: The hotel's hardware and positioning are fine, but there's room for improvement in service consistency, especially regarding the first-day delivery standards of housekeeping management. Trip.com's coordination and service performance in this incident, on the other hand, highlighted the professional value of their platform.

The staff were very friendly, and I was happy to get a room on a higher floor as I had requested. The room itself was very small and felt a bit outdated. For this price range, I expected a little more. However, the window — definitely the highlight of the room — offered an incredible view of the city. The onsen was quite small, but wow. The Hotel Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda proved to be an excellent choice for my latest trip to Japan. After arriving it was super convenient to just walk over from Terminal 3 and check in. There were some issues retrieving my booking with the terminals but the staff were quick to sort it out. Travelling to and fro was easy too thanks to the airport connections. The room itself was excellent - roomier than many Tokyo hotels, with a great view of the river, and all the expected amenities. The best part was the quietness. Despite being next to the airport I couldn't hear the planes at all or any noise from the hall or adjoining rooms. I stayed in a Japan Airlines themed room which was amusing for an aviation nerd like me. The hotel onsen was also excellent and worth the extra fee. The baths were very relaxing but the advertised view couldn't be appreciated from the windows being fogged up by the steam. That was more than offset though by the excellent restaurant that had great service and delicious food for a very reasonable price. I opted to eat there rather than the very crowded breakfast buffet in the mornings. It was great for dinner too especially after a relaxing bath. One thing I didn't care for was the extra fee for the fitness room, unlike most hotels I've stayed at. There was a free area with just weight machines but if you wanted to use the treadmills there was an additional fee. Regardless of that, I would definitely stay here again without hesitation.

The room is clean and sanitary. I stay here every time I go on a business trip. The location is convenient, the staff has a good service attitude, the scenery is also very good, especially the bedding and toiletries in the store are more comfortable, and the air conditioner is not dry, the temperature is suitable, in short, it is quite comfortable.

Coming directly from Tokyo Station, you can access the hotel's exclusive elevator via the Marunouchi underground passage, which saves you the hassle of crossing streets above ground. Being on a high floor, the view of Tokyo Station with its busy trains passing by is quite spectacular. The room is small but exquisite, typical of Tokyo style. Breakfast was relatively simple, and at 2500 JPY for a child, it felt a bit overpriced.

This was my second stay here, primarily because of its excellent location. It's a convenient 5-minute walk from the JR station and about 20 minutes to Isetan, making it easy to get anywhere. Plus, there's a direct shuttle bus to the airport that gets you there in just 1.5 hours. I stayed in the South Wing, and the room was a bit dated, but everything else was fine. There's a Komeda right outside, which is great for a high-value breakfast. On the second floor, there's a Family Mart, so it's super convenient for grabbing anything you need. The service is also very good; they provide complimentary water and buckwheat pillows. I highly recommend this as the top choice for Shinjuku, especially for its unbeatable value for money. Last time, there were Chinese-speaking staff at the front desk to help with check-in, but I didn't see any this time.

Every time I visit Tokyo, I stay here because it's so convenient. **Amenities**: They have a microwave, self-service laundry, and a gym (which costs extra to use). **Location**: It's right by Ikebukuro West Exit, making it super easy to get to LUMINE and TOBU. Plus, major lines like the JR Yamanote Line, Marunouchi Line, and Yurakucho Line all converge here, so getting anywhere else is a breeze. **Cleanliness**: Most of the housekeeping staff seemed to be from South Asia. **Service**: The front desk really saved the day this time! I had the wrong time for my return bus, and thankfully, the staff reminded me in time, so I didn't miss it.

Hotel service was impeccable, staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were very clean and well maintained, especially loved the toilet and showers which were spacious with good water pressure. There’s also a free lounge that served simple drinks and small snacks which was much appreciated. Location is also great, within walking distance of the both the JR and metro stations. Shimbashi station is well connected to various lines that you’d use to hit the common attractions, also close enough to Ginza. Highly recommended and would definitely return again for my next trip to Tokyo

The location is decent, situated in Shinjuku, but it’s not exactly in the heart of the busiest areas. If you’re planning to visit restaurants or shopping spots, be prepared for a bit of a walk daily. The lobby is beautiful, and while the onsen and sauna are small, they are quite effective. The rooms are okay, though not very modern. Breakfast was also just average and not particularly impressive, given the price.

Staying at this luxury hotel, nestled within a historic building at Tokyo Station, was an absolute delight. Both the facilities and services were outstanding. The shower and faucet in the room felt incredibly luxurious – a truly 'premium' experience. The hotel's long guest room corridors, with their wall sconces, created a wonderfully warm and inviting sense of depth. A major highlight was the hotel's breakfast and its setting. Served on the 4th floor, the breakfast offered a rich and diverse selection. The peaked, herringbone-patterned ceiling, with one side a wooden roof and the other a light-transmitting glass roof equipped with awnings, filled the space with bright, natural light, making for a truly comfortable start to the day.

I booked a standard room below the 20th floor and requested a higher floor with a view of the Statue of Liberty. When I checked in, I spoke to the front desk, and they told me that for the price I paid, I'd only get a tiny glimpse of the Statue of Liberty, even on the 18th floor. To get a direct view from a higher floor (20+), I'd have to pay extra. I decided to take a gamble and stick with my original booking, and it turned out great! The money I saved was enough to cover breakfast at the hotel every day, which was a nice bonus. There are three breakfast options: the garden restaurant on the first floor, the café on the second floor, and a sushi set on the 30th floor. The first and second-floor menus are identical, but the first floor is larger. I tried the sushi once on the 30th floor, but it was just okay; the fish slices were quite thin, and I could get better sushi for the same price at other places. There are several shopping malls nearby, all accessible directly from the hotel lobby (on the second floor) via connecting skywalks. You can also directly access the Yurikamome subway line. The terminal station is Shimbashi, which is about a 20-30 minute ride from the hotel. From Shimbashi, it's about a 1km walk to Ginza, or one stop on the Ginza subway line, or a 700 yen taxi ride. The transportation is very convenient. I also participated in a Tokyo Bay cruise afternoon tea activity nearby; it was just a three-stop train ride from the hotel to Hinode Station, and the Symphony cruise ship pier was right outside the station.

This hotel is super convenient, just a 5-6 minute walk from Roppongi Subway Exit 5, and you get to enjoy the twinkling Tokyo Tower lights on the way. My 5th-floor room offered street views and a glimpse of the Tokyo Tower, and it was really clean and quiet. I chose the twin bed option, and while the beds aren't small, they are placed right next to each other. The shower and bathtub get a big thumbs up – very well designed! The room isn't huge, but considering it's Roppongi in Tokyo, it's totally acceptable. The hotel breakfast was delicious, and the staff were very nice. The lobby also has good quality toiletries available, which you can pick up as needed. Shoutout to the nearby Taketora Ramen – fantastic! There's also a Don Quijote for some affordable shopping. The hotel's location is great, quite close to the subway station, and it's convenient to walk to Ginza. In my opinion, the one major drawback is that the staff's English proficiency is absolutely terrible! On both occasions I've stayed here, the front desk staff could barely speak English during check-in, requiring a translation device, which wasted a lot of time and effort. Even more ridiculous, when I called from my room to request an extra pillow, the staff member who answered couldn't understand English. We repeated the English word for ”pillow” at least ten times, and even spelled out the letters one by one, but it was still useless – we simply couldn't communicate. Overall, the hotel has a good location and the rooms are generally decent, but the English level of the staff is genuinely the worst I've encountered in any Japanese hotel.

If you head left out of the hotel, there's a great spot on a bridge to photograph the Tokyo Skytree, and to the right, you'll find the famous Ningyo-yaki shop and lots of delicious restaurants. Overall, my experience was okay, but the deposit process was a real hassle, and communication with the front desk was difficult. I tried to pay the deposit online twice, and both times it showed as 'Locked by Shangri-La Tokyo' for JPY 250,000 + JPY 100,000. The hotel responded that their finance team checked and found a system error, so they hadn't received the deposit. Finally, they sent me a new link, and I paid another JPY 100,000, which also showed as 'Locked by Shangri-La Tokyo.' This time, they claimed it was successful. Thank goodness! But even now, the deposit is still being held by the hotel. During my stay, I showed the front desk the emails I had exchanged with their reservations department, but the front desk said they hadn't received them! Even though the reservations system automatically replied to my emails, the front desk still denied receiving them! I also showed them a screenshot of the successful deposit payment, but the front desk said they needed to verify it in their system and wouldn't accept my screenshot. Fine, they said they would confirm the deposit payment in an hour, but we only found out it was received the next day. It was absolutely ridiculous! Unless absolutely necessary, I won't be going to Japan again! And even staying at a Shangri-La wasn't all that great! It was a lot of trouble, and I felt like they intentionally dragged their feet! BTW, all emails with the hotel were in English.

I come to Tokyo several times a year, staying a fortnight or more each time. This time I spent seven nights at The Capitol Hotel Tokyu. The room faced Hie Shrine. Through the floor-to-ceiling windows I could see the shrine's copper roof and half of Tokyo's skyline. The décor was modern without excess; the layout flowed easily, Bose speakers hidden in the walls, another set in the bathroom ceiling, connected by a 3.5mm jack. The curtains were motorized, though you hardly needed to close them. The turndown service. I would leave in the evening and return late to find the room changed: only the hallway light and bedside lamp left on, a bottle of water and a glass on the nightstand, two chocolates beside them. The evening tea and teacup, previously stored in the cabinet, had been moved next to the coffee machine. These changes were so slight you had to think back carefully to confirm they had happened at all. The temperature and humidity had been adjusted. As if the room itself remembered your habits. Room service fell short of the ryokan in Hakone or Lake Toya, but well above the ordinary hotel. Each day I made two or three cups of complimentary coffee, played music, read, wrote. In seven days I finished three books. The research ahead began to take shape. There were drawbacks. No washing machine, but a decent laundromat ten minutes' walk away—a chance to wander the streets of Akasaka. The room provided HDMI and ethernet ports but no cables; for those who came to rest, perhaps a mercy. The minibar fridge was mostly occupied by drinks for purchase, same as the Imperial, though there was still room for my sparkling water. The day I left it was half past five and fully dark. I could barely make out the faces of the bellhop and the taxi driver. Together they loaded my luggage into the boot. I wished the bellhop a happy new year in Japanese and told her I liked her hat. She smiled and returned the greeting. As the taxi pulled out of the underground drive, I thought of the inns Kawabata once wrote about: what had to be sought in the mountains of snow country can now be reached by elevator from the B2 exit of a metro station. I have watched the Shinagawa Prince Hotel loosen quietly over time, slip a little. That kind of decline is rarely one great error. It begins the day someone forgets to leave a glass of water, neglects to move a packet of tea, omits a newspaper. As for The Capitol Hotel Tokyu: in Japanese, what I experienced over these seven days is called ちょうどいい.

Facilities: I'm not sure if the cabinets were renovated, but the edges are incredibly sharp. It really doesn't fit the Japanese emphasis on detail. I actually cut my arm. Ambiance: The lobby is beautiful, and the transportation is very convenient. There are shuttle buses right outside the hotel that go to the city center and the airport. Service: The front desk staff were nice, but when we tried to book a restaurant, they asked a bunch of questions about allergies. Only after all those questions did they call the restaurant, only to tell us there were no tables available. Couldn't they have checked availability first and skipped all the allergy questions? It was a huge waste of time. Cleanliness: Unfortunately, the room cleaning wasn't very thorough. Every time we came back, the trash on the floor was still there. In the mornings, they kept ringing the doorbell before we were even awake. The sheets weren't changed when they were dirty, and when a pillow fell on the floor, they just picked it up and put it back on the bed, still covered in dust from the floor. This really doesn't live up to five-star standards.

Mandarin Oriental once again gave me an unforgettable day. I've celebrated many birthdays at Mandarin Oriental before, and this time was no exception. The Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, was absolutely perfect. While the facilities are luxurious, they might not be considered top-tier luxury. The main perfection truly lies in the service. Michelle, the beautiful front desk staff from Indonesia, was incredibly thoughtful. On my birthday, the hotel provided several delightful surprises, further solidifying my belief that coming here to celebrate my birthday was the absolute right choice. Looking for delicious food? Mandarin Oriental offers classic French cuisine, the best pizza, and excellent sushi... And if that's not enough, downstairs you'll find the best fruits in Japan, the finest Spanish cuisine, and top-notch Chinese food. Right next to the hotel is the Mitsukoshi Main Store, so choosing a birthday gift was absolutely stress-free. Let's start with the positives: The location and facilities are excellent, the room is spacious, and I even had a view of the Imperial Palace from my window. Although it was partially obstructed, considering I booked a basic room, it was more than acceptable. Upon arrival, the staff immediately helped with my luggage and inquired about my name, which was very thoughtful. Turndown service and replenishment of amenities in the evening were prompt. All staff members throughout the hotel were professional and responsive. Now for the negatives: I wouldn't call it discrimination, but it's clear the hotel primarily caters to and prioritizes Western guests (there were many Westerners staying there). They even offer gluten-free bread at breakfast. I was assigned a room on the lowest floor, the 8th floor, and I didn't see any Western guests on my floor. When using the elevators, they were always going to floors 10 and above. Additionally, a cart with spare amenities was constantly parked right outside my room door, which was quite an eyesore every time I opened it. I brought this up during check-out, but I doubt they'll take it seriously.

Pros: the duty manager Mai who is fluent in English and demonstrated outstanding attentiveness and a genuine dedication to hospitality. She took the time to truly understand my specific needs and thoughtfully arranged the perfect room for me. To be quite honest, this level of personalized care and attention to detail is something rarely encountered in the hospitality industry nowadays. I was both deeply impressed and delightfully surprised by this experience. Cons: regarding the housekeeping service during my stay, While I appreciate that the bedsheets were changed diligently, the overall cleanliness and attention to detail have been highly disappointing. Instead of clearing the room, the housekeeper consistently left trash behind after cleaning. Day1 The housekeeper actually stuffed a piece of paper waste into the room card slot. Day 2 The trash remained unclean. Day 3 The housekeeper even left their own dirty cleaning towel right next to the bathroom sink. (see the picture) As a guest, I expected a high standard of hygiene and professionalism, but these incidents have made my stay quite uncomfortable.

The hotel was renovated a few years ago, but it still retains its 40+ years of history and luxurious decor, now blended with modern, clean design elements. Charging facilities and hygiene are excellent. I would definitely stay here again!

The rooms feature a modern design with wooden furniture, and the hotel environment is very pleasant. The lobby's public areas offer lounge sofas and coffee tables, as well as shared co-working desks, catering to various guest needs. It feels very vibrant, suitable for both leisure and business travelers. The soundproofing in the rooms is excellent, and the bedding is extremely comfortable. The hotel's overall architecture, with its red bricks and black grid windows, is both classic and contemporary, blending well with Kyoto's traditional wooden building style. The first floor houses a stylish small shopping center, Shinfukan, with trendy brands, which is quite interesting. I would definitely choose to stay here again. I'd love to know the brand of the mattresses and pillows, my daughter really enjoyed them!

The hotel is conveniently located directly across from JR Kyoto Station, making it super easy to find. The room size was decent, especially for the king-size bed I booked, which I really liked. It's incredibly convenient for getting around, particularly for JR lines – no need to rush at all. The absolute highlight was the breakfast! There was such a wide variety, including sushi 🍣, various alcoholic beverages, cheese, salads, and grilled meats. The restaurant faces the station, so I highly recommend opting for breakfast – it's excellent value, and the sushi was delicious. The service was great too, and the lobby offers complimentary water and even Sekkisei cosmetics, which was an amazing bonus!

The room layout and cleanliness were pretty good, and the hotel's location was convenient with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. The breakfast was also great, with fresh food and a good variety. However, I was really surprised to find that some of the daily amenities provided, like a face mask (I only checked its production date), were expired. It was produced in 2020 with a 3-year shelf life, meaning it was over two years past its expiration date! This makes me wonder about the large refillable bottles of bath products, which could also be expired. For this price point, providing expired items is unacceptable and really raises concerns about their quality control.

This hotel is absolutely wonderful! Tucked away in a bustling part of Kyoto, it surprisingly offers a peaceful retreat. The top-floor bar has a really stylish design and the night views are absolutely stunning. Our king room was spacious and comfortable, and a soak in the bathtub melted away all our travel fatigue. Staying here with my partner, we really got to experience Kyoto's relaxed pace – it was incredibly romantic!

The hotel's location is excellent. Turn right out of the hotel, and in just a few minutes, you're at Kyoto Station, which is super convenient for getting around, dining, and shopping. Yet, it's far enough from the hustle and bustle of the station that it's very quiet for sleeping at night. Turn left, and in a few minutes, you'll reach the Oishibashi bus stop, which pretty much covers all the major tourist attractions. The room is spacious enough, and the best part is the public bath on the ground floor – perfect for unwinding after walking around 15,000 steps every day. If you go around 4-5 PM, it feels like you have the whole place to yourself. I stayed for 10 days, and the breakfast was very convenient with varied options daily. The front desk staff were very polite and always enthusiastically answered any questions. The foreign male housekeeper was also very courteous and always greeted me in the mornings. I'll definitely choose this place again on my next visit.

Coming from Kansai Airport, it was about a ten-minute walk to the hotel from where the limousine bus dropped us off. Potel Umokoji Kyoto redefines what a hotel offers its guests. Firstly, the location is unique, an easy 5 min walk from the station ( Umokoji Kyotonishi) and 3 min train ride to the center of Kyoto. Yet this convenience is coupled with its location adjoining a large wooded park which some guest rooms overlook - a special and calm outlook right in the city centre. Rooms are large by Japan standards and both the Japanese style rooms ( super comfy ) and more traditional Western styled rooms offer a Scandanavian/ Japanese decor style which is both modern and uncluttered. In addition, guest services on offer include complementary DIY fresh brewed coffee and in the evenings, complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks . Can be taken either to your room with balcony overlooking parklands or in the guest book or music library, both offering a calm respite from a sometimes frenetic Kyoto CBD. Unique, special and largely overlooked by tourist group bookings, the Potel Umokoji manages to offer the ambience and guest experiences that many mass tourism venues have lost. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

The hotel is nested in a quiet corner, within walking distance of Sagaogurayama Tabuchiyamacho. Im however a bit disappointed with the limited facilites it offered when compared to the price we paid. We stayed in the Tsukinone Twin Room which is on the third floor of the building. The view is pleasant. The room is of decent size. Yet there were no public onsens. We need to pay YEN5000 for 45 minutes and there are only 2 private onsens. For more luxurious rooms with private onsen, the one I visited was on the ground level with no views as it were by the pathway to the reception , separated by wooden planks. We paid around Yen5000 for the breakfast in the hotel, Both western and japanese breakfasts were offered. We tried both. It is of standard. The 4 different juices presented on the top of the bento box was impressive. The vaccinity is pleasant. We could walk to the train station, the tourist rown area , the nearby parks and the world heritage sites. Nice area .

I stayed here 10 years ago. The hotel looked exactly the same. It is a little bit on the old school side, but everything is clean and impeccable. The first day I arrived I had a stomach issue and the hotel was really kind and helped send fresh ginger tea up to my room and requested. They went out out of their way to find me fresh ginger. The second day I strained my back from lifting heavy luggage. They are once again very kind and send a staff to help me pack all my belongings and help me coordinate sending my luggage to Tokyo so I don’t need to lift it on the train. Special thanks to Naing Thiri who is so kind and help me pack everything so neatly and even help me get dressed Honestly, when I first checked in and the hotel looks a little bit outdated I was thinking maybe next day I would not want to come back but with the great service, I would definitely stay here again if I come to Kyoto

I noticed this hotel's location on my last visit to Kyoto. It's incredibly convenient for Eikando, Philosopher's Path, Ginkakuji, Honen-in, Anrakuji, Shinnyodo, Eishoin, Chion-in, and Shoren-in – absolutely the best choice for autumn leaf viewing. The hotel is small yet exquisite, offering excellent tea sets and tea. It boasts a beautiful garden shared with Okazaki Shrine's別邸 (detached residence). The hotel facilities are also good (though unfortunately, no buckwheat pillows, and the air conditioning temperature was a bit uncomfortable and hard to adjust). The lounge has a nice view, serving only alcohol, coffee, and tea. I ordered a chestnut cake. The restaurant service was polite but lacked warmth. Had a perfect stay at Tennen Osaka Onsen during our Kyoto trip. The hotel is clean, modern, and comfortable while still retaining some traditional Japanese elements in the room design, which gives it a unique and authentic atmosphere. The water pressure was excellent, and the complimentary onsen facilities were fantastic, with several different pools available to enjoy. One of the highlights was the generous complimentary offerings, including free-flow ramen and ice cream, which were a lovely bonus after a long day of sightseeing. The breakfast deserves special mention — it was absolutely outstanding. There was a huge variety of choices, all freshly prepared and delicious. The staff continuously refilled the food, ensuring everything remained fresh throughout service. The quality of the ingredients was impressive, and guests could enjoy unlimited freshly fried tempura and fresh seafood poke bowls, which felt more like a premium restaurant experience than a hotel breakfast. This branded hotel in Kyoto offers great value for money. Kyoto is home to many luxury hotels like Aman, Capella, and Park Hyatt, which can be quite pricey and are better suited for a staycation to truly immerse oneself in Kyoto's culture. For this one-night stay, I chose the Westin. It's a large, established five-star hotel. Although it's older, all the details are still very well-maintained. The hotel is within walking distance of Nanzen-ji Temple, and a short taxi ride to Kawaramachi Shijo and Kiyomizu-dera Temple. There's also a shuttle bus to Kyoto Station every hour at 10 and 40 minutes past, which is very convenient. I booked two rooms and they were assigned next to each other. They even gave us the rooms at 12 PM, and the rooms had balconies. The breakfast was plentiful and excellent, with many freshly prepared dishes. I stayed at a Dormy Inn in Tokyo many years ago and still fondly remember their complimentary evening noodles. This trip was a bit of a nostalgic return, though I didn't expect so many people enjoying the noodles; there was a queue every night. The hotel is very close to Kyoto Station, making transportation incredibly convenient, and the breakfast spread was also excellent. While the room wasn't large, it was well-laid out and fully equipped. Check-in was a very friendly process, and self-checkout was quick and easy. The only downside was the slightly subpar cleanliness; on the day I checked in, I noticed an odd smell near the toilet, which only improved after I cleaned it myself. Also, continuous stays don't require an extra cleaning fee, which Ctrip had misleadingly suggested.

I stayed at this hotel for the entire three-day trip to Kyoto. The location of the hotel is not bad. It takes a few minutes to walk to the Kamogawa River, and about ten minutes to walk to Takashimaya? Just take a walk. The variety of breakfast is incomparable to that in China. The bread is quite good. I also saw his bakery in Osaka Takashimaya. The room area is considered large in Japan, and the hygiene is also OK. Dyson hair dryer, free mask, whitening sensitive skin should be used with caution. The minibar gave a lot of small biscuits and fruits, and the taste is OK. There is no bottled water. It is said that the tap is direct drinking water and can only be boiled for drinking. The water flow of the tap is small, but the shower water pressure is enough.

The air conditioner's maximum temperature is 19 Degree Celcious. The main setback is that during midnight the air conditioner suddenly feel not cold maybe some hotels have that because they tends to switch off one compressor system at midnight. The overall health is very good, the facilities are well maintained and there is no musty smell. That is, all the windows can be wiped clean. This time I checked in in the evening. When I took a taxi, I saw the sunset of Lushan, which was a value-added item. The reception staff was very polite and welcoming. At night, the girl was invited to drive us to the hotel entrance. This road was too standard, almost standing on the mountain, and there was a feeling of adventure. When I checked out, I felt the ship of Hoshino. Modern design hotel that appeals to the younger crowd. Medium queen room was spacious and I could lay out my luggage case on the long bench. Don't expect nice views from the room as it will be facing other buildings. Room was on the darker side, as the interior design is mostly black and gray, and the lighting was minimal, so it is good for relaxing and not working. For breakfast, you can order 1 plate from ala carte menu, and there is a salad bar. Pretty simple but does the job. Location wise, it is closer to Gojo metro station than Shijo station. There is a metro exit with elevator so you can use that when carrying luggage. It is a longer walk to Shijo dori shopping street, so you may prefer to book a hotel closer to Shijo station / Hankyu Karasuma station if you want to be more central to the shopping area.

I stayed for 4 nights from January 4 to January 8, 2026. From the hotel, you can walk to Nijo Castle in about 10 minutes. There are many small convenience stores nearby (7-Eleven and the like), as well as two large supermarkets — Life is open until midnight, which is a huge plus. You can buy nice gifts for friends and family late in the evening without wasting daytime hours. The transportation access is great too: within a few minutes' walk there's a subway station and a JR line (convenient for coming from the railway station), and right next to the hotel there's a bus stop. This is important because Kyoto's sights are scattered all over the city, and you often need to use public transport or taxis. Speaking of taxis. Twice I asked the reception to call me a taxi, and both times the staff helped me — a huge thank you to them! It was especially important on the first day: thanks to a taxi, I made it to Kiyomizu-dera Temple in time and explored it without rushing. Check-in was very quick, and the staff explained where everything was. The room was quite spacious — or maybe it just felt that way. I comfortably unpacked my suitcase and took out everything I needed without feeling cramped. The room had all the essentials, and there were kettles near the elevator that you could take to your room if needed. I did, and had some tea before bed (on the first floor, you can grab a free tea bag if you don't have your own). The air conditioner worked for both cooling and heating — which was very useful on some evenings. Honestly, I only used the hotel to sleep, and it was perfectly fine. Every morning, breakfast is served on the first floor. To be honest, I expected something simple since the room rate was quite affordable. That's why the breakfast was such a pleasant surprise! My eyes wandered every morning at the variety of delicious food! A huge selection. Every day I had rice with various toppings, amazing salmon, cod, and various vegetables (the okra here was especially good). There's a small smoking room on the first floor with good ventilation. My overall impression of the hotel is extremely positive. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Kyoto.

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay here. The decor really added to the atmosphere of the place and there was a lovely communal area for relaxing. This offered different seating areas with access to free tea and coffee, a microwave and mini oven. The hotel is directly above a 7/eleven so it was very convenient for bringing in food to eat. There was a laundry room but it was very busy and the washing machine didn't sound very happy and the drying seemed to take people a long time. We were glad to have done washing before arriving here. The room was quite big and the bed was on a raised platform so cases could be stored underneath. It was very dark in the room because of the decor. We did sleep well. The bathroom was very modern and clean with a wet room style shower. All areas of the hotel were very clean throughout our stay and staff were visibly working to maintain a high standard. Kyoto was extremely busy at the time of our stay (during golden week) so we focused our visits to places that could be walked to or accessed from the Kiyomizu-Gojo Station on the Keihan Line. We did one trip that involved buses and it was horrendously busy with the longest queues at bus stops we've ever seen.

The hotel is located right inside the train station, making it extremely convenient. Despite its central location, it was quiet and comfortable. There were plenty of restaurants, shops, and even a UNIQLO right downstairs, so everything we needed was within easy reach. The price was also very reasonable for the location and convenience. I would definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit.

This hotel is super convenient, right next to Kyoto Station. If you exit Kyoto Station and head right, past the Kyoto Theater, you'll be there in no time. It's a lifesaver for anyone traveling with luggage, making transfers to the Shinkansen, bus, or subway incredibly easy. The room's layout was well-thought-out, and the bedding was wonderfully soft and comfortable. The bathroom facilities were spotless. Even for a standard twin room, it didn't feel cramped at all. Overall, the hotel was really good.

One of the nicest hotel with a lovely Japan and Kyoto like interiors in Kyoto for the price in the area. Room and bathroom is spacious and a large bath tub with tv is good plus point if you enjoy taking a bath. The front staffs are not the best and friendly ones but provide service you need. Our family stayed for 2 nights, one room in the 3rd floor and the other in the ground floor. The ground floor room has really bad moldy and cigarette smell, my husband and I notified hotel and asked if they gave us a smoking room by mistake. They said they will do something with it and when we back to the room at night we saw they kept opening the window but it was still smelly and disgusting. It was very unpleasant.

I had a great stay at this hotel, especially as a manga fan. The room was clean, and I received fresh towels every day. Amenities such as toiletries could be picked up from the reception area, which was very convenient. The hotel also provides complimentary drinks 24/7, including water, coffee, and tea. There is a bus stop directly in front of the hotel with buses that go straight to Kyoto Station, and the nearest subway station is about a 10-minute walk away. The famous Nishiki Market is around a 20-25 minute walk from the hotel, and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. There is also a convenience store right next to the hotel and a supermarket within a short walking distance, making it very easy to grab snacks, drinks, or anything else you might need. Popular attractions such as Nijō Castle and Kyoto Imperial Palace are also within walking distance. Overall, I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kyoto.

The room, renovated 25 years ago, feels quite new. Although the standard king room doesn't have a separate shower and toilet, the bathroom is very spacious. The toiletries are securely mounted, which is reassuring, and the small skincare sachets are a nice touch. Breakfast offers both Western and Japanese options, but I wouldn't recommend the Japanese breakfast.

Overall, it's a great place. It's located on a very quiet street with a convenience store right downstairs, which is super handy for buying things. It's also really close to the subway station, just about a 5-minute walk. The interior design is quite interesting, and they have a full set of dishes, cutlery, and all the kitchenware you might need. One important thing to note: the main glass automatic door to the hotel building closes at night, so you'll need to use the side entrance to get upstairs to the hotel!

This is my second stay here, mainly because the location is super convenient for transportation and shopping. It's right by Kintetsu Department Store, which is downstairs, and there are all sorts of delicious food options. Getting anywhere from here is a breeze. This time, I booked a room advertised as 24 square meters, but the actual experience was quite poor. It had an outdoor balcony, but the room itself was enclosed, so the balcony basically ate into the usable space, making the room feel very cramped. Plus, it wasn't cleaned properly; there was dust on the nightstand, which is really unacceptable for a five-star hotel. After discussing it with the front desk, they upgraded me to a 31-square-meter room. Their service attitude was still good. My advice for future bookings is to pay close attention to the room type. Also, they really need to improve their housekeeping.

The hotel’s location is excellent, with one of the Shinsaibashi Station exits located directly beneath the hotel, making it extremely convenient. It’s also just a short walk to the Shinsaibashi shopping district, with many luxury brand boutiques nearby. Before my stay, I requested a high-floor, quiet room through the app, and the hotel accommodated my request by assigning me a room on the 27th floor. The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything I needed. After checking out, I asked one of the staff members where the pickup point would be if I booked a taxi through an app. Instead of simply giving directions, she personally accompanied me to the taxi stand on Level 1 and even spoke to the driver in Japanese to confirm my destination. This thoughtful gesture really stood out and reflected the hotel’s excellent service. The only minor downside was the pillows, which I found a little too flat for my preference. A slightly firmer or more supportive pillow would have made the stay even more comfortable. Overall, I found this hotel to offer outstanding value for money. I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Osaka.

My favorite hotel in Osaka, mainly because both times I've visited, I've stayed here. **Location:** It's a major transportation hub, making it super convenient to get to Universal Studios, Umeda, or the airport in any direction. Everything is roughly within a 30-minute reach. **Hotel Environment:** Clean, tidy, and excellent service. The night view is absolutely stunning. **Surroundings:** There's a mall and plenty of restaurants downstairs, all within walking distance. There are tons of choices, and it's less crowded than the city center. Those popular shoe stores that always have lines in the city? Here, they're spacious and empty. Both times I've stayed, my room faced different directions, and both views were amazing. At night, after the little one was asleep, just sitting by the window and zoning out was incredibly relaxing. Alright, there's nothing left to praise!

The room itself is decent, though it might feel a bit cramped for two people. The location is quite good, right by what I'd call Osaka's 'Suzhou Creek.' There are many art museums nearby. However, if you're a woman walking alone at night, it can feel a bit deserted. If you plan on staying out late, a more central location might be better. I told the front desk I'm a light sleeper, but they still put me right across from the cleaning room, which was really annoying. I was woken up early in the morning by the noise. I've attached the shuttle schedule. I actually found it more convenient to take the bus to the art museum.

The hotel's location is superb. It's a convenient 3-5 minute walk to Osakajokoen JR Station, making it easy to get anywhere. There's an elevator inside the station that goes directly to the exit. After exiting, you walk about a hundred meters along a corridor to another elevator that takes you to ground level. Cross a small bridge and an intersection, and you're at the hotel. This is incredibly convenient if you have large luggage. The hotel is situated on the northeast side of Osaka Castle Park, by a small bridge, so you can easily stroll along the castle moat anytime. Shopping and dining are also very convenient. Cross the overpass from the park's south exit, and you'll find Q's Mall. There are also countless restaurants if you walk to Kyobashi Station (and along the way). For airport transfers, take the JR line to Tennoji, then transfer to the JR Loop Line (red), and it's just six stops to Osakajokoen Station. The hotel's cleanliness and facilities are excellent, especially the soundproofing – it's very quiet. The mattress and pillows are just right, providing a great sleeping environment. The hotel service is highly professional, from the front desk and restaurant to the lobby and concierge. The breakfast is a rich blend of Western and Japanese styles (though the coffee was a bit weak). I stayed for seven nights in total and had a fantastic experience.

Osaka was the final stop on our Japan trip. 1. The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of bustling Shinsaibashi. There's a subway station just a few steps away, making it very convenient to get to Universal Studios. 2. The front desk staff were very friendly and provided service with a smile. They carefully verified our check-in information, which was great, and also offered free luggage storage! 3. The hotel has a small self-service beverage area, but they didn't offer machine-dispensed drinks, only pre-made options like fruit teas and coffee. The taste was generally mediocre, and some were a bit too sweet. 4. The washing and drying facilities in the laundry room are split across two different floors, with two sets of machines on each. However, this wasn't quite enough when it got busy. Also, due to heavy usage, the cleanliness wasn't always promptly addressed, and there was often a lot of lint and residue inside the washing machines; I'd recommend wiping them down thoroughly before use. Paper cups for the ice machine weren't always replenished on time, sometimes requiring a trip to the front desk. Furthermore, the laundry room itself is quite small. It also houses a microwave and the ice machine, and it gets very crowded with more than two people trying to use the facilities simultaneously. I'd suggest opening the main dining area in the evenings for guests to relax or heat food, instead of cramming everything into one small space. 5. The room was quite spacious. With three comfortable beds for three people, we all slept wonderfully!

This hotel is simply the best, my go-to whenever I'm in Japan! The environment is great, rooms are spacious, and the location is unbeatable. Links is right downstairs, and Yodobashi Camera is just across the street from Links. Shops and restaurants are all within easy reach. The location is truly phenomenal. You can take a direct elevator from the Links dining area on the lower level straight down to B1, which leads directly into the Midosuji Line. The second floor connects directly to JR Osaka Station and surrounding malls, allowing you to enter Daimaru Department Store directly from Osaka Station. The location is simply invincible! Even though I try different hotels when I visit, I always end up staying here for many days. The only downside is the limited laundry facilities. It's hard to get a spot to do laundry, there's often no availability, and you have to wait in line if you go late. But honestly, it's a minor issue that can be overlooked.

There are also plenty of great food options nearby, and a Lawson convenience store right around the corner downstairs. This time, I stayed in room 803, and right outside my door were the ice maker and laundry room. It costs 25 RMB to wash a load of clothes, which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes – really handy for tourists staying in Japan for several days. Check-in is at 3 PM, but if you arrive early, you can store your luggage yourself. The hotel provides daily housekeeping and bottled water. I've stayed here many times and generally like and trust Ascott Limited, but my recent multi-night stay was quite disappointing, mainly due to cleanliness issues. On the second night, they forgot to leave a bathmat, and on the third night, they even left the cleaning rag behind. By the time I got back late, I was too tired to complain. The good thing about staying here is that all the staff speak English perfectly and service is very efficient. However, the room cleanliness really needs attention. Also, almost all rooms are connecting rooms, and during the peak summer travel season, it's best to ask if there are children in the neighboring room when you check in, otherwise, it can get incredibly noisy.

Last year, in early August, the same room cost around 1700, but this year, booking two months in advance, it was only a little over 500. Honestly, the hotel being so affordable was a major reason why I came back to visit again. The bathroom has a standard Japanese-style wet/dry separation, which even some much pricier hotels I stayed in later didn't offer. The amenities included something for relaxing your feet, haha, it still makes me laugh thinking about it! If you check in early, you can request a room with a view of Universal Studios. The location is absolutely fantastic! The airport shuttle bus goes directly to Universal Studios. After getting off, it's just a short walk following the signs. Right outside the hotel's back door, a right turn leads you straight to the subway station 🚇. We booked a triple room. It wasn't huge, but considering it's Japan and in the Universal area, it's probably to be expected. It was a bit snug, which is typical for Japan, but for the price, I felt it offered pretty good value for money. Stepping out of the hotel, you're right in the middle of a commercial center, with everything for eating, drinking, and shopping – a true one-stop shop. It's incredibly convenient for indulging in some retail therapy and delicious food. Here's a little tip for Universal Studios: If you want great photos, try to find one of the staff members. They are excellent photographers and the pictures turn out amazing. We randomly asked an elderly cleaning staff member that day, and it turned out he was a photography pro! Returned at about 2:30pm and was informed that checkin is at only 3pm and the rooms are not available. If we want an early 30min check-in, we have to join their hotel membership. That is something that took me by surprise. 3 rooms booking but only needed 2 member signup? If the room are not avail, does signing up matter? If the rooms are available, why made us sign up? The Imperial Hotel Osaka boasts an excellent location near Sakuranomiya Station, offering stunning river views from its upper floors and even a glimpse of Osaka Castle in the distance. Below, the riverside greenery and small beach create a serene and lovely atmosphere. The hotel has a vintage charm, and while some facilities show their age, it didn't detract from a comfortable stay. The mattress was just right – not too soft, not too firm – and even the single beds were spacious. Room insulation was good, and the shower had strong, hot water, which was very pleasant. However, the lighting was a bit dim, making it slightly inconvenient for getting ready. This visit was specifically to experience the 'Miyake' (a term for the three most prestigious hotels in Japan) level of service, and indeed, this venerable hotel delivered polite and thoughtful service without feeling overbearing. For instance, when checking out, knowing we had plenty of time before our flight and planned to explore Umeda further, they proactively reminded us about their shuttle service to the airport if we were heading there directly. When we said we were going to Umeda, they even asked if we'd like to leave our luggage at the hotel. They also directly helped us with calling a taxi, specifying the destination, and handling our luggage. I truly loved their Japanese staff! However, it seems the hotel has hired some South Asian staff for housekeeping. I noticed some dust on the glass shelf in the bathroom and on the TV cabinet. But these are minor issues, and overall, the cleaning was quite thorough.

Convenient walking distance to and from the Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station serving the Chuo Line [C] and Sakaisuji Line [K], makes for an easy thoroughfare to all parts of the city, Umeda, and Universal Studios, too. Great amenities are its upper floor Onsen on the 14th floor, along with the swimming pool and gym facilities for an additional (2 700¥) per visit. Room size is fairly spacious for solo travelers, but opt for beds for two persons or couples. The hotel does not have laundry facilities though the nearest laundromat is about 6-blocks away. Very clean and open 24/24. This hotel has a chapel inside on the second floor for those who are observant travelers (for Christian devotees). This was my first time visiting Osaka, and since I wasn't familiar with the area, I booked this hotel for 5 nights based on its good reviews. Our flight was early, and after a long, tiring journey, especially for us older folks, we were really hoping to check in early, even if it meant paying for an extra night. However, the hotel's official check-in time is 3 PM. I had contacted Trip.com beforehand, and they told me the hotel had agreed to a 12 PM check-in, but the front desk said they hadn't received any such notification and that same-day bookings weren't possible. So, we had no choice but to wait. Another surprising thing was that bottled water isn't provided in the room – this was a first for me. Also, the soundproofing in the room isn't great. Aside from these issues, everything else was fantastic. Of course, we understand that hotels have their own rules. There was a gentleman at the front desk who spoke Chinese and patiently explained how to take the train, where to go for fun, what to watch out for, etc. He was incredibly detailed and thoughtful. The room was cleaned daily and kept spotless. Outside the hotel, there's a hot spring, and it's very close to both the subway and JR lines, plus there are convenience stores like FamilyMart nearby, making it super easy to buy things. Overall, I really love this hotel. My trip was a bit rushed this time, and I didn't stay long enough. Next time, I plan to stay longer and will definitely book here again.

Convenience stores and restaurants are also within 1–3 minutes’ walk. Aside from the cold winter temperatures, everything was excellent. Another highlight on the second floor is a free lounge bar for guests, offering complimentary drinks and alcohol. Many guests choose to grab a simple dinner from downstairs or on their way back, then enjoy it leisurely at the bar. The hotel's onsen has incredibly generous hours, operating overnight. It's fantastic to be able to soak and relax even after returning to the hotel late at night. There's a subway station and a Family Mart convenience store right below the hotel, making travel and finding food and drinks very convenient. While it's a bit of a walk to Shinsaibashi, the overall value for money is still excellent.

I had a wonderful stay at **Hinode Osaka** overall, and I'd definitely recommend it, especially for couples. The amenities are easily **10/10**. The hotel offers so many complimentary perks, including free alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, ice cream, laundry facilities, and a hot spring (onsen). These little extras really made the stay feel great value for money. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Although I didn't interact with them much after check-in, the entire process was smooth and efficient. Since we mentioned that this was a birthday trip, they even prepared a small gift for us, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. The location is another huge plus. There are plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby, and **Tsutenkaku Tower** is only about a 5-minute walk away, making it very convenient for sightseeing and food hunting. The only downside, in my opinion, is that the hotel seems to accommodate many tour groups. We noticed buses of tourists arriving almost every day. During peak hours, the hot spring could get extremely crowded—we couldn't even get in at times. The complimentary late-night ramen was also very popular, and we often had to wait around 10–15 minutes just to find a couple of seats. Overall, I'd highly recommend Hinode Osaka for couples looking for a comfortable and well-located hotel with excellent amenities. For families, however, be prepared for the crowds, as the hotel can feel quite overwhelming when multiple tour groups are around.

I chose the Royal Park Hotel at Osaka Kitahama Station again this time. The room was spacious and clean. You can find amenities like shower caps, toothbrushes, razors, face masks, and loofahs at the self-service machine next to the check-in counter on the 2nd floor. The hotel is conveniently located within 100 meters of the Subway K Line, Hankyu KH Line, and Keihan Main Line HK. The Subway M Line is also within 700 meters. There are banks and office buildings nearby, and a 7-Eleven on the ground floor. It's very quiet at night, and during lunchtime, you can see many office workers buying lunch at 7-Eleven.

I recently stayed at Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka and had a mixed experience. One of the main concerns is that the room lighting is quite dim, which may not be suitable for elderly guests or anyone who prefers a brighter environment. It can feel uncomfortable, especially at night. Another downside is that many basic items come with extra charges. Bottled water is only provided complimentary once; after that, each bottle costs around 300 yen, which feels unnecessary for a hotel at this level. Service-wise, I was disappointed that there was no assistance offered for carrying luggage, even when a wheelchair user was present. This level of service does not meet expectations for hospitality. On the positive side, the in-room washing machine is very convenient and works well, especially for longer stays. Overall, while the hotel has some useful facilities, the service and comfort level could be improved, particularly for elderly guests

Exit 18 at Honmachi Station has an elevator, but it's a bit of a walk. If you don't have luggage, Exit 14 is closer. I saw some reviews complaining about the inconvenience of having to go up to the 16th floor every time, but since I wasn't in a rush, it wasn't an issue for me. The triple room was very spacious, and we could open all three suitcases. The only minor point is that it would be better if the bathroom door was frosted glass. That way, it wouldn't be awkward if someone was showering while another person was using the toilet.

My favorite hotel during this trip to Japan. The service was outstanding, and the staff were always kind, professional, and able to communicate well in English. They were incredibly helpful whenever I needed assistance. The hotel was exceptionally clean, and I was impressed by how well the smoking area was separated from the rest of the property. There was no smoke smell at all. A beautiful, modern hotel with a comfortable atmosphere. I would happily stay here again and highly recommend it

Exiting from Umeda Station, the West Exit is closer. This is my second time staying here. This room was a bit smaller, and there wasn't much space for two people's luggage, but it was fine for a one-night stopover. In the afternoon, there's a complimentary afternoon tea with rice crackers, juice, bacon, and sparkling wine. In the evening, you can also enjoy ochazuke. The rooftop hot spring is open until 1 AM.

The hotel is conveniently located near Umeda Station, just a ten to fifteen-minute walk away. There's also a shuttle bus that runs on the hour, which is quite handy. The room size was incredibly spacious, making it feel like a five-star hotel in my home country, definitely not what I'd expect in Japan, haha! It was super easy to get to Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe from Umeda Station every day.

Excellent apartment-hotel right across from Namba station, which is super convenient if you're traveling to/from the airport. The service was fantastic, with polite and smiling staff. Everything was very clean and tidy. We got a free room upgrade to a two-room suite, which had plenty of space, a cozy living area with a lounge, sofa, and a TV with a good sound system, a kitchen area with everything needed for cooking, and a washing machine. Highly recommend!

RWe chose this hotel specifically to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We requested a higher-floor room in advance, but unfortunately it wasn’t provided. There was also no special setup or decoration in the room, and the front desk never mentioned anything about it. The room view was average, and the hotel is a bit of a walk from Shinsaibashi Station. The elevator had a noticeable unpleasant odour when going from the ground floor to the 3rd floor. Overall, the experience was just average. For comparison, we stayed two nights at another hotel during the same trip that was slightly cheaper, but the overall feeling and quality were noticeably better than at this W hotel.

The hotel location is great and easy to walk around exploring right in the middle of the city and you will find this gem ramen store open 24/7! The only disappointment was with the butler service or more the non existent butler service. For the price we are paying, I expected much much more from St Regis as I have been accustomed to at other St Regis Hotels. The hotel is beginning to show its age and hence the cleanliness part is coming into question when our rooms were being cleaned, I mean I am again nit picking here but it isn’t up to St Regis usual standards. The gym room is adequate but there isn’t a pool in a 5 star hotel 🙃.

This is a great hotel! While it's not in the city center, the free shuttle bus to and from Osaka Station makes it quite convenient, with the ride taking less than half an hour each way. The hotel offers fantastic views. It's located right by the sea, and there are many delicious restaurants along the waterfront. Going out in the evening for a stroll along the beach, enjoying the sea breeze, and having a bowl of soup curry is incredibly relaxing!

The hotel is conveniently located between JR Osaka Station and Umeda subway stations, about a 10–12 minute walk, and can be easily accessed via elevated walkways. In the afternoon, the hotel offers complimentary afternoon tea, and in the evening there is a free lounge with unlimited drinks and light snacks, which is a great bonus. Guests can enjoy the large public bath both in the morning and at night, with the last entry available until 1:00 a.m. The hotel also provides a wide range of skincare products and amenities for guests, which adds extra comfort to the stay. There are two convenience stores and a drugstore right next door, and just one street away is a lively shopping street with a shrine, making the area both convenient and enjoyable to explore. Google Maps navigation to Exit 22 actually refers to an underground shopping street. You can exit from either 7B or 8B in the middle of the street, or from Exit 21 – all lead to the same area. The room was clean and well-arranged. There are convenience stores both in front and behind the building, making shopping incredibly convenient. You can walk to Namba, Shinsaibashi, and Takashimaya. Getting to Kobe and Kyoto is also easy, taking only 1-1.5 hours.

Locals don’t usually come here to sleep — they come to wash, relax, and go through the full spa ritual. There are three types of steam rooms, a circular shower, and three baths: two hot ones at around 41°C, and one cold shock bath at around 11°C. You dip in and instantly feel alive. One unique feature — every hour they run a group steam ritual, like a collective massage & heat therapy session. Very Japanese, and surprisingly affordable. Definitely worth trying. There’s also an inexpensive breakfast option, plus vending machines with food and drinks right inside — very convenient. Overall, it’s a men-only vibe: arrive, clean up, relax, reset, and go about your day. The capsule is just a bonus on top of the sauna experience. They give you clothing — not a robe, but loose Japanese pants and an oversized T-shirt. You get your own locker, bedding and clothes are changed daily, and the bathrooms have literally everything: toothbrush, toothpaste, gels, shampoo… even nail clippers. You don’t need to bring anything. Location is fantastic — right next to Dotonbori. Step outside and you’re instantly in the heart of Osaka’s nightlife and energy. Downsides? A strict checkout — you must leave at 10:00 AM, and check-in starts only after 3:00 PM. If you want to stay during that gap, it’s around 300 yen per hour, or ~900 yen for the day. Still — great experience. I always wanted to try a real Japanese capsule stay. Inside the capsule there’s a TV, radio, adjustable lights, and AC — though it blasts pretty strongly, so I turned it off.

The hotel's location is excellent. Get off at M14 station on the Red Line, take exit 2 from the subway, and walk past the convenience store for another five minutes, and you'll be there. Remember to return your key to the front desk when you leave the hotel and ask for it back when you return. Toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other amenities are in the basket in the lobby for you to pick up yourself. The hotel room isn't huge, but it's clean and tidy, the towels are fluffy, and the air conditioning works great. The only downside was a dripping sound in the bathroom of my room, 703.

Right next to Shin-Imamiya subway station, so getting around is incredibly convenient. The front desk staff rotate, with two people on duty at a time, including locals, Chinese, Koreans, and Indians. There's a women's shower on the 4th floor, men's showers on the 6th, and a men's bathhouse and microwave on the 10th. Downstairs, there are convenience stores, pharmacies, and places to eat nearby. The room was super small, but quite clean, and they provided towels and plastic slippers. Because it's close to the train tracks, there's a bit of noise. Plus, there's some noise from motorbikes speeding by. I stayed for 3 days, and there was hardly any noise from other guests.

Location was impeccable, just diagonally opposite Namba and the Nankai line that leads to Kansai airport. Lotsa food in the vicinity of the hotel. The room looked new, were clean, quiet and relatively spacious for up to 2 people. By relatively spacious, I could leave open a suitcase on the couch at the foot of the bed without having too much issues moving about. The toilet was the standard Japanese style inbuilt capsule with the auto-washing WCs and nice-smelling shower gel, shampoo n conditioner. Other amenities, like toothbrush, lotion, shaver, cotton buds, etc. can be self-picked at the lobby for free. For the rate I paid, it’s definitely great value! This hotel is right next to Namba Shrine and super close to the W Osaka hotel; I could always find it by looking for the W hotel's sign. It's also very near Shinsaibashi, about a 20-minute walk to the iconic Glico Running Man sign and only about 15 minutes to the liveliest shopping area. There are plenty of convenience stores and various small shops nearby, making shopping and dining incredibly easy. The room, as expected, was 'Japanese-style compact' (read: on the smaller side 😂), but impeccably clean. The bidet was a great bonus. The hot water was wonderfully soothing – perfect for unwinding after a long day out. As a relatively new hotel in Japan, the internet speed was excellent, suitable for both work and streaming. The breakfast, while not as varied as some domestic hotels, was more than satisfying for my needs. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay, and I would definitely come back if I have the chance.

For my recent trip to Osaka and Kyoto, I booked my Osaka accommodation through Trip.com. Unfortunately, I missed my flight and didn't arrive in Osaka until after 10 PM. I took a taxi directly from Osaka Station to what I thought was my hotel, only to find out that the address listed on Trip.com for this Ibis hotel was completely wrong. It was for a different Ibis in Osaka! After getting out of the taxi, the front desk informed us that our actual hotel was another 5-minute walk away. I was speechless. I had to drag my tired body further to find the correct hotel address. By the time I finally checked in, it was past 1 AM. I sincerely hope this issue can be improved to avoid causing trouble for future guests. On a positive note, the front desk staff were friendly and polite. While the room was small, it had all the necessary amenities.
