The hotel is very modern and we were greeted with a welcome drink in the vast reception area upon arrival. We had to wait a short time for our room to be ready, and our luggage was securely locked away to allow us to explore the area. We had a roof top suite room on the 5th floor. Again, it was modern and had a separate seating area, along with a bedroom, dressing area and bathroom. You stepped out onto the spacious covered balcony that was equipped with a table and chairs. Whilst there was a sea view, bear in mind you're not front line so you will take in the hotel swimming pool/sun bathing area initially before the main road and the front line buildings! We had a problem with our safe not working. We tried to get it to work twice, and waited 2 x 15 mins for it to reset before calling reception. We couldn't get through after a couple of attempts so went down to ask for some assistance. Another 45 mins later we had to repeat the process, and this time an engineer arrived within a couple of minutes and he replaced the batteries to enable it to work correctly. Our rooftop terrace was via a spiral staircase, not especially clear from the online photos, so may not be ideal for the less mobile. It is listed as 'private', but once you start to climb the stairs you can see onto your neighbour's balcony, and once you're at the top of the stairs onto their roof top terrace. The wall levels are also relatively low, and whilst you respectfully don't pay attention, it may not be the privacy that everyone seeks. It was very hot on our first afternoon and we noticed that some roof tops had umbrellas up. We phoned down to ask if we could have one and were told it was too windy (there was a very gentle breeze) and it might blow away. We asked again the next day as we thought the hotel meant it was too windy on the first day, and were told that we'd already been told we couldn't have one because it was too windy and there had been an occurrence recently where an umbrella had blown from the roof top down to the pool area and that management had deemed it unsafe for umbrellas to be put up 5 floors up. It was understandable why that decision had been taken, however some rooms still had umbrellas up, only new guests were being declined. We did raise this again on our last day because we had paid specifically for a roof top terrace room and due to the heat we were not able to use that facility for the amount of time that we would have liked to without some form of shade Had we known that before our stay, or at check in, we would have asked for a cheaper room option. We explained again that other guests still had umbrellas up and were told they didn't want to take their umbrellas down so it only applied to new customers. That was the one downside for us unfortunately, surely it should have been the same rule for everyone because the same thing could still have happened?!
