When you first pull up outside Bordoy Alcudia Bay, you are met by the sight of a plate glass reception and a relatively neat and tidy facade which belies the run down residential area through which you have just been driven. This however, is very much only a façade in what quickly becomes apparent is a hotel apparently on its knees, cutting back, cutting corners, relaxing standards and very much not deserving of a 4* rating. Upon entering the reception area, you see unfinished areas of bare plaster, a bare minimum of seating and a small reception desk which is manned by polite and friendly staff who provide an efficient and informative overview of the hotel and the all inclusive package. (We were all inclusive guests and this review reflects that and is compared to previous all inclusive stays at hotels of a similar star rating). You can make your way to your rooms via stairs or, as the hotel is 5 floors high and you're likely to have luggage, via a pair of lifts which are small and claustrophobic, in need of an overhaul and look as though they could break down at any moment; Indeed, on the second day of our stay, one lift did indeed go 'out of order' Arriving at the superior double room, you.can smell it before you reach it as our room has an overwhelming smell of sewage emanating from the bathroom which permeated the whole room. The room itself, other than the smell, was bright, the bed was extremely big if slightly uncomfortable but the facilities lacked compared to other 4* establishments and fell below our expectations. Yes, you have a free safe, a fridge as well as a kettle and coffee maker. On arrival you have 2 33cl bottles of complimentary mineral water and the promise that this is replenished daily - we got one 33cl bottle on subsequent days, in a double room housing 2 people. If you go to the pool bar to ask for more water, you are told to pay for it. Further facilities such as wardrobe space is sub standard, an open area by the door with 13 coat hangers is insufficient for 2 people, no drawer space is provided and 50% of the shelving area is taken up by the fridge and the safe. The Air conditioning was hit and miss and it appeared the temperature setting on it was broken because even on the lowest fan setting, it didn't stop at any temperature you set it, simply ploughing on until the room was very cold. The cleanliness of the room was sub standard, other than the smell in the bathroom, the area around the drain in the shower was stained, presumably by the amount of drain cleaner they have to use in there, the floor in the
