Hotel berhampiran Volierengarten im Neuen Kranzler Eck, Berlin

I have in general very positive impressions - property is clean, staff is nice, location is very convenient in shopping and restaurants district in very centre of Berlin, few steps from Zoo train station.

Great location, looks good, trendy bar, good views but small rooms-no wardrobe, no kettle, no tea/coffee in the room. All of this is ok really - it’s a motel after all. What makes it upsetting is a service style that is brusque at best, rude at worst. For example, I’d booked for a group (over €4000 in value). In spite of emailing and phoning in advance to check all was ok there were still multiple mistakes in room allocation ( one guest was told he had to pay himself before he could get into his room - so in effect paying twice, once through me and then again at the hotel - he was eventually refunded… ) And when I finally asked for the itemised room bill I was made to feel like I was imposing on the front of house staff who couldn’t be bothered to help me out. This tone happened on several occasions. Berlin is great, the hotel should be great, but the service culture at Motel One Upper West leaves a lot to be desired… A sour ending in Berlin.

Schöne, zentrale Lage an U/S Bahn Zoologischer Garten. Alles in der Nähe und super Anbindungen. Personal sehr freundlich und gutes Frühstück. Zimmer war größer als gebucht, alles sauber und modern. Schöne Dachterasse mit toller Aussicht. Gerne wieder.

This is the second hotel I stayed while visiting Berlin. Having spent most of my life managing hospitality properties I feel as though the Leonardo deserves a shout out. If I’m not mistaken this hotel used to be called Hotel California and was built as a 4-star property. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. Refrigerator but no microwave and some features in the bathroom that are not everywhere. I had opted for the inclusive breakfast and it was a good decision. The spread was vast and if you went away hungry you had no one to blame but yourself. One more service - surprising to me especially given the change in US hotels post-pandemic is daily housekeeping service. Well done Leonardo - I’ll be returning to Berlin in the next several weeks and if you can accommodate me - expect to see me.

Very nice hotel, good check in experience. Julia at reception was excellent, very friendly and professional. Hotel room is spotless and clean and a nice fragrance throughout the hotel. Light and airy with a nice bar . I would recommend this to solo female business travellers

Overall Experience Impressive property that reflects the care and attention to detail management and staff have devoted to this gem. While it isn’t next door to the Mall of Berlin (20-minute subway ride away) and does not have the city-center bustle (meh), Hotel Louisa’s Place has an old-world charm with all the modern conveniences needed for a very comfortable stay. I will stay here on my next trip to Berlin and I would highly recommend to anyone seeking a comfortable alternative to the corporate chain hotels. Room: Very much liked the room floorplan. It was like a 1-bedroom apartment with a separate living/dining/kitchen area and a patio with a table for two overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom was spacious with a huge shower. The 12-foot-high ceilings with ornate crown molding and large windows made it seem very grand. We felt as though we had a posh European flat for our week in Berlin with all the amenities of a very nice hotel. Location: I was surprised to learn that everything we needed during our stay was within walking distance. We found three grocery stores and more restaurants than we had time to try all within a 5–10-minute walk. There was also an abundance of other shops and stores near the hotel. The U-Bahn (subway) station was 1 block from the front door. The S-Bahn (main city-wide trains) station was a 8-10-minute walk or you could walk to the U-Bahn and ride it to the next stop and shorten the walk to the S-Bahn. We did not need a rental car since all of our activities were accessible from the nearby subway or train. Price: I did my homework and found this hotel to be well-positioned in the market. Value for money was very good. So glad we did not stay in the chain hotel we were considering. Service: Unlike American hotels post-pandemic, housekeeping was done every day of our stay with fresh towels as needed. They emptied the trash bins and collected recycled containers and generally tidied up. All staff were very friendly and eager to help with any questions and requests we had. Cleanliness: All aspects of this hotel were well tended to. I typically wipe down drawers and shelves before putting clothes away. That was not necessary at this hotel. The bathroom and kitchen were very clean, and I was impressed by how this older building has been meticulously upgraded and maintained.

The hotel is very well located next to a metro station and in front of it there is a bus, M85 that takes you to the main train station. The Turkish place next door offers amazing fresh kebabs. The city tour bus is just 20 min walk or couple of stations ride. The room was clean, the breakfast was having good varieties. The only missing part was the air conditioner, but the weather was good and we could sleep the night without it.

The front desk staff was very accommodating in getting me into my room quite early after an overnight flight. Rooms leave much to be desired. Beds are very tiny - what a toddler would sleep on. Beds are very, very firm. Room and bathroom weren't very clean. I had my 'do not disturb' sign on my door and received a knock from housekeeping. Repeatedly. When I went to the door, thinking the sign must have fallen off, the housekeeper pushed past me, handed me my 'do not disturb' sign and insisted I replace it with the 'clean my room' sign. It is a 20-30 minute drive to city center. The area is questionable for walking around on your own as a female traveler.
