Excellent location to explore Christchurch attractions. Very clean and well appointed room for an excellent price (I was wondering what It may be getting into). The room quality was a 3+ star for US standards. The only negative is the lack of parking (only offstreet parking or may have to drive a block away for parking). The clean room, friendly staff and excellent location and the overall niceness of Christchurch and it's people in general made us quickly get over the initial stress of trying to find a place to park. This is one of the loveliest places I have ever stayed - it represents everything about the legendary New Zealand Hospitality that you have ever imagined. Run by the owner, Chet, who delivers a truly personal and welcoming experience for every guest. I stayed for four nights and every morning there was a breakfast banquet of fresh fruits, cereals, milks for everyone ( soy, oat , dairy) , freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly made coffee, hot toast and so many condiments to chose from . You sit round a large table which is social and interesting to find out what others are planning. On the one morning when I had a very early start, a breakfast was placed carefully outside my room for me to enjoy before setting off at 5.30am - such thoughtful service. My room was the little ‘sleep out’ which is a super cosy ensuite room with a lovely bed and excellent shower as well - set in the carefully designed courtyard, which has a lovely small pond and flowers and plants that clearly the local birds and bees really enjoy too. A very relaxing place to sit and unwind in after a busy day . In terms of location, when you arrive Chet takes you through a carefully, prepared map and gives you a link to a web page he has created full of useful tips and hints . The public bus system in Christchurch makes it very easy and cheap to get all over the place . Chet also offers a laundry service, but please remember this is not a laundromat, so you if you need something urgently then look for that, but if you have a day or two then your laundry is done and returned all very efficiently. So in summary, if you want to experience real New Zealand hospitality, look no further than Designer Cottage !

I booked a private double room and wasn't expecting a good sleep because people going up & down the staircase sounded like a herd of rhino's. However, the quiet curfew of 10pm was adhered to and I enjoyed the best sleep I've had in the last 2 months (including my bed at home). The kitchen has plenty of space & the lounge has lots of table seating. The bathrooms were clean and the shower pressure was great. The location of the hostel is fantastic but street parking is metered and limited between 9am-6pm. I arrived on Waitangi Day when parking is free & only stayed 1 night so that worked well. But if you were staying longer finding free parking could be annoying so better to find an all day free spot the night before or leave it in a 24hr parking block. There are free streets but be mindful of residents.

We rented the two bedroom apartment on the first floor for 160nz$ per night which is great price for the big rooms. Kitchen has a cooker, oven and microwave and fridge which were all in good working order. One room is a double bed with heaters on the bed and the other room had twin beds also with heat. There was an extra bed in the lounge area and a newish couch. Table and 4 chairs which need an upgrade . Curtains we new and nice. Parking was fine . They not so great things are the water pressure. Some days there were hardly any pressure. Cleaning could be better - and some days there were no house keeping which does not bother me too much but might be important for some. That said the request for clean towels etc were met promptly but very nice and accommodating owners. Location was great.

We had the 2brm unit opposite the office. Whilst close to the road it was super quiet (double glazed) and very peaceful. The motel is an older one but beds and furnishings are well maintained and very comfortable. Owners very help me nice people. Very convenient location at the end of Hayley park and near restaurants and the shopping centre. Very well priced and we'd happily stay again.

We had a great stay. We were upgraded to a three bedroomed suite which was perfect. The suite was really spacious and had everything we needed. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly too. Went to the dinner buffet at the restaurant. Came out way too full! The selection was wonderful and the service was great. The food was done very well especially the roasted pork ribs. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend especially if you have a family.
