Mono Suites Old Town

The acoustic properties of this flat is terrible. You basically cannot sleep at night due to the noises on the streets. The door to the hallway is non-exsistance.

Absolutely intolerable lying and underhanded treatment from Mono Suites management! This trip was originally planned for 2020 and involved booking several rooms for an annual event in Edinburgh. When the UK shut down for COVID, the Mono manager took the opportunity to completely gouge us on rebooking. She refused to simply slide the booking to the corresponding weekend the next year. Instead, she first wanted us to cancel (without getting a refund) and then book a "new" reservation (obviously because they had more than doubled their prices). After numerous calls and e-mails, she promised us a guaranteed rate if we cancelled and then rebooked. (She would keep our money and then increase the rate by "only" 35% when we rebooked.) However, when we attempted to do this, she then placed multiple new conditions in our way. When I sent her a copy of her e-mail promising us the guaranteed rate to use our "credit," she said, "Yes, but demand has changed. I can now get more for those rooms." The manager repeatedly lied and broke every promise that she made. In the end, she made it unreasonable to use our "credit" at any time that corresponded to the event we had originally booked for in the first place. The manager was absolutely shameless in her lies and in using the pandemic to deceptively squeeze more money out of guests. There are better hotels in Edinburgh without such corrupt management.

We had a lovely stay at Monosuites in Edinburgh. Ahead of our check in, Valentina contacted us to let us know our heating would not be working and kindly offered us some alternatives to rectify this issue in good time before our arrival. She was very helpful, she even went and heated the apartment with portable heaters so that it was warm for our arrival. Check in was easy. Manless reception where you pick up your key cards at the time of your agreed check in. The apartment was a nice size for a family of 6 adults for one night. It had everything we needed to make the stay comfortable. Coffee, tea and biscuits provided was a nice touch. They even provided ear plugs for the city noise outside however, we found that we didn’t need to use them. Despite it being a busy Saturday night in Edinburgh, the apartment was so high up the noise wasn’t an issue. The location is fantastic, just off the royal mile, lots to do all around you. Bedding was comfy (the beds a little on the hard side but fine for one night). The only downsides were that the apartment could use a little touch up, some holes in walls, splatters on walls, wonky shelves etc but this didn’t bother us greatly. The only thing that was an issue was that there was no hot water for a shower in the morning. (Not sure if this was to do with our heating being broken?)This was a shame and would have been a real problem if we were there for any longer than one night. Also, there are no lifts! There was not an issue for us, but could be for some people. Unless you’re on the first floor, you have quite the journey to get to the top. Overall a great stay in a great city. We would Definitely book this apartment again!

The Mono Suites is in a great location, a few metres from the Royal Mile, right in the centre of the Old Town. In addition, the ambience is aesthetically nice and clean. Check-in is menless, but I have to say that by message the staff was nice; when we asked them to keep our luggage after check-out time so that we wouldn't carry it around during the day, they agreed and we were very happy with that. However, we noticed some major drawbacks in the room: - when we arrived, the heating had not been previously turned on so it was 15 degrees inside (January) - the sofa-bed is really uncomfortable, at least in our room (no. 11) It creaks a lot, which compromises the sleep of those next to you during the night. What's more, it's not comfortable, we woke up the next morning with backache. - the room is not equipped with shelves/sideboards or anything else to put your belongings on. In particular, the bathroom is not equipped with any shelves and this is uncomfortable, because you really don't know where to put your belongings. In my opinion as an arrangement it has potential, especially for the location, but the quality needs to be improved!

I had bought my son and partner 5pm vouchers for Mono Suites. As they were on the way for their two day stay they got an email to say that the room was cancelled due to ‘broken boiler’. They did nothing to help them find alternative accommodation and I ended up having to pay for them to stay in a more expensive, but very dingy airb&b. Very poor service and would definitely not recommend.

Avoid. Advertised as having a bar and restaurant onsite.. it does not. They closed down some long months ago. No check in instructions received so had to call them on arrival. Tried calling but practically impossible to get hold of. Room not ready when it should have been, even though we had paid extra. The dust in the room was unbelievable! Rubbish left on radiator and holes in some of the walls. Room is so hot, but the fan is as full of dust. Can’t close the sash windows so the noise is relentless. Promised a refund of payment of early check in. Hasn’t been received. Paid over £400 for 1 night. Yes it’s Fringe time but would still expect it to be of a standard and with the facilities advertised. Find somewhere else to stay!

Stayed for one night and found the room pretty good, if not extremely warm (no air con) though a fan was provided which was helpful. The service from the owner/manager was excellent. We had a check in issue and called for assistance - before the call even ended she was there in person and helped us immediately. There would be an issue if you’re in any way mobility impaired. The place is not in the slightest bit disabled accessible. That didn’t bother us but just a warning for anyone who may be affected by this. The apartment was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. No issues at all. Location is great for the city centre, particularly the old town and mile. That’s the good stuff - the major downside is the noise. Lots and lots of noise. We had windows closed and earplugs in and still barely slept at all. We stayed on a Tuesday night and it was still extremely noisy outside until almost 4am then the noise started again at about 6am for the beginning of the next day. The window in our room had been secondary glazed at some point but half of that had been removed so it didn’t help. I work shifts so have very good quality ear plugs that I use at home and they still didn’t make much difference. This is definitely the noisiest place I’ve ever stayed, and we recently stayed in the centre of New York City! The noise is the only major downside for me so if that doesn’t bother you, this place is recommended

Modern facilities, warm shower. Biscuit snacks. Spacious kitchen. Fold out couch bed was the size of an actual bed which was great. Only thing was when you got in it dipped into the middle, maybe a better mattress would solve that. Brilliant location. I’d stay again
