Five Elements Hostel Frankfurt

Not friendly reception, although I told that I can't sleep in the upper bed due to my knee problem. She didn't help. The location is dirty even if it's few steps to the central train station. Rooms are small, dirty; there is no towel. Beds are not made, not clear to be clean or not. Bathrooms are comparatively clean. During night, drunk 2 girl were chatting and laughing very loud. Some people were using beds like their kitchen, disgusting. Unfortunately, my experience negative.

I arrived at 6am after an overnight bus. I explained that I was after a bed for that evening, not right now. The receptionist told me that I could book and pay for a bed but was unable to use the facilities in the common dining areas. I explained that I had just arrived off a bus and that I had no where to go at 6am in the morning. I was told there was nothing that could be done.

this hotel is located in a very dangerous area of Dublin where people sell bad things without anyone says anything... it looks like the worst area of Naples despite the fact is Germany furthermore the staff is very lovely and try to this gap except for the Korean or Chinese or Japanese the asiatic girl at the reception who is very rude and has a bad attitude that destroying everything special what other colleagues make...please talk to her as she actcl as a bad apple in a dangerous

Nice, helpful staff, good bar and generous breakfast. But VERY noisy, located right next to a loud nightclub that parties through the night & spills out onto the street. Regular police sirens & ambulances passing. Plus lots of dodgy characters in this area, some of whom approach you. The rooms are basic & clean - but much smaller & less pleasant than the ones on *******

Overall my stay was good. I could store my luggage after checking out. If you could add some curtain for each bed, I believe it could be even better - though we are in a hostel, some people need privacy too. Brekafast was great.

The GOOD is that there's nothing really wrong about this hostel. The BAD is the extortionate price to stay here and then to be charged an excessive price on top for a basic breakfast. The UGLY is it is located in an area in what can only be described as a cesspit of human misery! When I booked this hostel I was sent an email by them stating it was situated in the heart of the red light district and if that didn't sit well with myself then I should maybe book elsewhere. What they fail to tell you is the streets surrounding it are full of drug *******, drug dealers on every street corner openly plying their trade, vagrants sleeping in every shop doorway and ******* openly fixing in front of your eyes. The whole place smells of urine as I'm all sure we can guess why. It's not a place for the faint hearted and I can fully understand why some people on Tripadvisor have stated that they didn't feel safe. Quite frequently I was asked if I needed anything by the dealers. The hostel don't mention this because they know they'd get no bookings. There’s no security guard but you can’t access the front door without reception letting you in, nor the inner door up to the rooms without them unlocking it by buzzer from the reception. Baring all of this in mind, it is astonishing that I had to pay 150 Euros for three nights given it's location and the main fact that hostels are supposed to be cheaper accommodation for backpackers! To make matters worse they then charge you 6,50 Euros per day for a very basic breakfast (7,50 if you pay by card). It consists of cereals, ham, cheese, fruit, toast, yogurt and orange juice. Tea and coffee is available all day for free. My room was too noisy from the outside even though no windows were open and the bunk bed was rather squeaky and slightly uncomfortable. There were giant lockers under the beds and sockets and night lights next to the pillow. The showers and toilets were separate from the room and seemed clean every time I used them. There was never any issues with hot water when using any of the facilities. The breakfast room doubled up as the lounge area and was big enough to cater for a lot of guests. Further downstairs were two pool tables, toilets and the baggage room. This room has chains on the shelves allowing you to padlock your bag to them so no one can walk off with it. Overall my stay was fine but it won’t be for everyone. The hostel needs to move location, lower it’s prices and attend to some minor issues. Then it’ll be much better. Finally, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. Big shout out especially to Marcel.

Apparently someone said exactly what I was about to say just a few days ago (which I didn’t have the chance to read as I had already booked the hostile 2 weeks ago). So as for the inside, it’s fine. Clean, and seems safe…but dear God, the exterior. I literally had to step over one ********* and push past another in the actual doorway just to push the buzzer to be let inside. I am from the US and Atlanta has its fair share of ***** and homeless (and I’ve been to many many countries including the Netherlands), but I have never seen that many cracked out people in one block in all of my life. I’m pretty sure I saw about 5-7 drug deals in a matter of 30 seconds. I had my 15 yr old with me and thought hey, it’s a hostile, it will be fine. Sometimes they are in sketchy areas…but this is WAY past that. A guy literally tried to grab my daughter as we walked the 1.5 blocks to the train station. Please do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. This place really needs to have their own security. Also, I would like to mention that on the backside of the hostile in the alley way, there was a full blown fight occurring at about 10/11pm the one night we stayed. Please don’t stay here if you have kids…or value your own life. It’s not even that cheap.

It’s hostel review time! I will share details of my experience as a solo-traveller in early 30s who stayed for 3 nights in 6-beds dorm room. Location: 6/10 Technically, it’s close to the main train station which is the good thing. Bad thing was, as stated by other travellers and the Hostel itself, is being in the Red Light District. Now, Is it sad, sketchy and offensive? Yes. Was it dangerous? No, It was safe enough, wasn’t approached by anyone. Yet my two cents here is always check the latest reviews about how safe the area is at the time. Room: 9/10 The room is spacious with beside your head sockets, or so close ones if you’re on upper bed. Mattress is comfy, pillow is passable, found a couple of bed bugs though which was annoying. Baggage locker is huge and fit for my bags. No A/C, to my luck weather was nice at night so opening the window was enough. It’s important to get an adapter for the sockets if you’re from outside of Europe and a lock. Bathroom: 10/10 It was clean all the time, shower was amazing. Hot and cold water all the time. Staff: 6/10 Now we start to go with the worse part of the hostel. On one side, staff were informative and answered all my questions, on the other hand they had the “OBVIOUSLY” attitude. Of course not all of them, there was a guy that was really nice and respectful on duty last night, but the other four were not. Social: 0/10 Please hear me out. Top reason that I stopped staying at hotels and started staying at hostels instead is the social part. You know, meeting other travellers, sharing trip plans and if you’re luck you would get going together if there are similarities in your plans. Well, it’s not the case here, at all. They mention having billiards and DVDs, but as mentioned by others, staff are not helping, effort is nada, null, invisible. Events were none existent. On the contrary actually, staff group alone and contact no guest. It was sad for that, I heard the same note coming from other guests too. Extra points: +1 Having coffee/tea all the time is definitely good. Also having free homemade dinner was a nice touch too. There was at least one of the staff behind the desk, can assure you that. Security was good to enter and inside the hostel. Verdict: 7/10 As a summary, the hostel stands behind their word about having a comfortable stay sleep. Location is beneficial and neighbourhood is scarring experience ( depending on where you’re coming from ). So if you’re looking for a place to lay your, this place is a decent choice. If you want the “Hostel” experience here, sorry, it’s like searching for water in the desert.

If you read the website carefully, there will be no surprises with this hostel. Despite the initial worry about it being in the red light district, between around 7am to 11pm this hostel is quiet and safe. The kitchen was decent, as were the rooms and bathrooms. The staff were friendly as well, and the social space by the reception made up for the fact that the area was less desirable.
